Thanagar, lost city of Egypt...Thanagar was believed to be a legend by most Egyptologists as recently as a year ago, nothing more than an addition to the mythology of an ancient land. According to legend Thanagar was founded by Amun-Ra for a race of beings he brought into creation to establish order and justice in Egypt and protect the Egyptian people from outsiders and foreign gods alike. Thanagar was said to be a city of power and wonder, hidden somewhere deep in the south of Egypt and lost to the desert after the rise of Islam. By the time Islam rose to power in Egypt though Thanagar had degraded considerably. A cataclysmic clash between Set and Amun-Ra recorded in only a handful of mythological tales was supposed to have destroyed the race that lived within the city walls, Amun-Ra's Hawk Lords. After this clash, the city begins to fade from legend until very little is known about it. The last recorded sighting was written by an early Islamic Scholar, who wrote that the city had fallen into a considerable state of disrepair and was already half consumed by desert sand.
Re-discovery:
One year ago a city believed to be Thanagar was discovered beneath the sands of Egypt. Archaeologists have been working to dig the city from under the sands since its re-discovery, but are cautious to warn people that such cities are often just the basis for legend and hold no supernatural or mythological qualities what so ever. The archaeologists point to "the curse of King Tut's Tomb" as evidence of a general lack of real mythology behind ancient legends. One week ago, these overly cautious Archaeologists disappeared.
Famous Monuments:
The Temple of Amun-Ra- The Central pyramid is the famous Temple of Amun-Ra, said to house the remains of the first Hawk Lord's very first incarnation. According to legend, this woman was known as Shaeyra Hol. Satellite imagery of the temple shows the building has been fully restored over night, it is once again a gleaming monument to the god of the Sun.
The Sphinx of Eternity:
Almost nothing is known of this Sphinx, except to say that it may be some sort of guardian. Unlike the temple, the great Sphinx has not been restored and only half of the torso is visible above the sand.
The Palace of Hawks:
The ancient seat of power of the Hawk Lords, this palace has also apparently been restored. In this building are said to be the secret histories of every Hawk Lord to ever live, the full tale of their various incarnations throughout their existence. The great mural supposedly updates itself as time progresses. There is currently only one known living Hawk Lord, Kendra Saunders Hol, or Luna Hawk as she is known to the public.
rules:
1. Usual forum rules.
2. Feel free to come and explore, I'll respond to things as I see them appear. This city will change when it comes time for the RP it will star in, but it is not as empty as it may appear, don't leave your weapons at the door.
3. If you are interested in joining the RP (it can be found in the Coming Attractions thread) this is a good launching point, look around the city and investigate. Actions you take here will have repercussions for the RP =).
4. Don't just go blowing up major monuments, ask me first, some of them have defenses, others might respond to what you are doing in their own way. This is also a good place for non-meta exploratory types.
