Thanagar, lost city of Egypt...Thanagar was believed to be a legend by most Egyptologists as recently as a year ago, nothing more than an addition to the mythology of an ancient land. According to legend Thanagar was founded by Amun-Ra for a race of beings he brought into creation to establish order and justice in Egypt and protect the Egyptian people from outsiders and foreign gods alike. Thanagar was said to be a city of power and wonder, hidden somewhere deep in the south of Egypt and lost to the desert after the rise of Islam. By the time Islam rose to power in Egypt though Thanagar had degraded considerably. A cataclysmic clash between Set and Amun-Ra recorded in only a handful of mythological tales was supposed to have destroyed the race that lived within the city walls, Amun-Ra's Hawk Lords. After this clash, the city begins to fade from legend until very little is known about it. The last recorded sighting was written by an early Islamic Scholar, who wrote that the city had fallen into a considerable state of disrepair and was already half consumed by desert sand.

Re-discovery:

One year ago a city believed to be Thanagar was discovered beneath the sands of Egypt. Archaeologists have been working to dig the city from under the sands since its re-discovery, but are cautious to warn people that such cities are often just the basis for legend and hold no supernatural or mythological qualities what so ever. The archaeologists point to "the curse of King Tut's Tomb" as evidence of a general lack of real mythology behind ancient legends. One week ago, these overly cautious Archaeologists disappeared.

Famous Monuments:

The Temple of Amun-Ra- The Central pyramid is the famous Temple of Amun-Ra, said to house the remains of the first Hawk Lord's very first incarnation. According to legend, this woman was known as Shaeyra Hol. Satellite imagery of the temple shows the building has been fully restored over night, it is once again a gleaming monument to the god of the Sun.

The Sphinx of Eternity:

Almost nothing is known of this Sphinx, except to say that it may be some sort of guardian. Unlike the temple, the great Sphinx has not been restored and only half of the torso is visible above the sand.

The Palace of Hawks:

The ancient seat of power of the Hawk Lords, this palace has also apparently been restored. In this building are said to be the secret histories of every Hawk Lord to ever live, the full tale of their various incarnations throughout their existence. The great mural supposedly updates itself as time progresses. There is currently only one known living Hawk Lord, Kendra Saunders Hol, or Luna Hawk as she is known to the public.

rules:

1. Usual forum rules.

2. Feel free to come and explore, I'll respond to things as I see them appear. This city will change when it comes time for the RP it will star in, but it is not as empty as it may appear, don't leave your weapons at the door.

3. If you are interested in joining the RP (it can be found in the Coming Attractions thread) this is a good launching point, look around the city and investigate. Actions you take here will have repercussions for the RP =).

4. Don't just go blowing up major monuments, ask me first, some of them have defenses, others might respond to what you are doing in their own way. This is also a good place for non-meta exploratory types.

"Chal-an reph?" Leena chirped, tilting her head curiously as she floated across Egypt's dunes. Her presence in this place was more accidental than anything else, and after becoming quite bored by Baghdad the wandering imp turned her attentions west. It had been a few weeks since she'd left North America, dripping with zombie goop and scrubbing herself clean in a nearby river. Since then she'd roamed -- drifting from city to city, as she had done before.

Time had seemed to fade, as the Midnight Fairy drifted. She lost long stretches of it at a time, forgetting where she was or where she had been, always in the moment, though the moment seemed to change at random. It was increasingly unclear to Leena how the crown restricted her powers -- she understood that her will did still affect things, and she understood that sometimes things happened. Odd things. Her presence caused change and chaos, similar to the way it had before the Harness Crown. Sometimes time slowed down, sometimes it sped up. Whatever it was, she knew that she wasn't directly controlling it... but began to suspect that her subconscious had some effect on her surroundings.

Now, the Crowned Imp found herself in a strange city of sand and monuments, a city of hawks and sunlight, of banners and angles and strange statues. It tickled her, in a way, with how alien and ancient it seemed in comparison to the other lands and cities she had visited since piercing the Veil. "La a-ran shun-shun kaph," she purred to herself, her wide mouth stretching into a wolfish grin. The first way to figure out whether a place was worth a short stay was to see what food it had.

There was a resident in the city, just the one right now while Solar and Luna Hawk were taking care of other duties. Solar Hawk would one day bring the whole race of Hawk Lords back, one day very soon in fact, but for now the city had but one resident. The imp was created not by a physical form but by a disembodied voice, a male voice that echoed with power. The city itself was now vastly restored, everything that had once been ruined was return to the height of glory the moment the Imp entered the city limits.

"Welcome to Thanagar. I regret that I cannot meet you with a physical body but it is still recovering from my long imprisonment. My name is Amun-Ra and this city is mine. This is the city of the Hawk Lords, the city of the Sun God of Egypt. I do not allow for many guests, but your unusual nature intrigues me. I am certain you have traveled for, come to the Palace and I shall set out for you a meal so that you might recover some of your spent strength. I expect Shaiera Hol to return soon enough."

There was silence for a moment before a golden orb, bright as the sun, appeared in the sky to lead her to the palace. "Tell me, what brings a creature of your nature to the home of a god?"

Leena tilted her head, looking up curiously at the voice though not showing a great deal of surprise. A god, then? Unexpected but not entirely improbable, considering the seeming nature of this place. Maybe it'd be fun.

Her silky, fiery hair drifting around her in the wind, the Circumstance Imp began to float and whirl idly towards the temple, chattering in her own tongue for a moment before remembering her manners -- her voice remaining the same eerie chirp, but now speaking in an old Egyptian tongue. "Ral-al en un kaph, or al nah -- I am exploring your world. This place... different, rather. Older. You are the realm creator of this place?"

She made good time towards the temple, the normally difficult terrain of the sandy streets providing no challenge to an entity that never touched the ground. It did enter her mind to, perhaps, be humble in the presence of this "Amun-Ra" creature, but that drifted from her mind as a memory, so like the other endless catalogs of knowledge the Midnight Fairy collected and discarded over an unknown time alive.

If Amun-Ra was bothered by her lack of humility he showed no sign. The palace was lavishly decorated, its ruined tapestries and murals now fully restored to life. The full history of the Hawk Lords was depicted upon the walls and it seemed to be growing. An image was painting itself on the wall even as she approached of one female Hawk Lord plunging into an icy ocean either unconscious or dead. Amun-Ra paid no attention to the mural as he led her past it into a deeper chamber where a huge dining table had been setup thousands of years ago. The table was covered in food from one end of the thirty foot span to the other. The food came from all over Egypt and all of it was ancient, none of the style currently served in the Middle East. The golden orb that was Amun-Ra floated above the table to light the way, there were chairs, rather large chairs, set up all around the table. "Take your pick of seat and food and enjoy. To answer your questions, yes, I am the creator of this realm. I created Thanagar at the height of the Egyptian Empire as a place from which I could watch over the whole of Egypt. This was the home of my warrior servants, a race I created and named Hawk Lords. Two of them still live today, the others will soon return. One of them will be joining us, though the mural informs me she will be later than I expected."

Leena murmured softly to herself as she floated to a massive chair at the head of the table, perching atop it casually and then looking back at it with a bit of bemusement. Considering that the chairs would be large for a normal human or elf, the barely two-foot Imp looked positively silly attempting to sit on one. Nonetheless, she'd done her best to accept her newer, smaller form, and quickly reached to wrap a few gobs of ancient food in what she assumed was a flatbread -- then stuffed it into her oversized mouth, swallowing contently. "Chal rr nn-nn sh. Your palace pleases Lee-na... so much shol-kaph -- history."

"Ah, thank you my impish friend." Amun-Ra said. "This city will soon be restored to the world and the chaos that embroils Egypt now will be brought to an end. Much of Egypt's proud history has been lost, but most of that lost information resides here and will be made known again as well. Egyptians have forgotten of their defenders the Hawk Lords." She was given the sensation that he was indicating to the mural. "The mural tracks the history of the whole race and is ever changing, always updating itself when major events happen."

The Imp nodded, shoving another gob of food into her mouth and letting out a content squeak, one goblin-like little fang poking out over her bottom lip as she turned her head to face the mural once more. 'Hawk Lords,' it sounded familiar to her, as if something that had been whispered of long ago. Something she had known of, but forgotten to the incalculable abyss that had been her lifetime as the Midnight Fairy. The scamp murmured under her breath for a moment, searching for the correct words. "A major event, that shall... sho-ran... occur soon?"

(no worries =) )

"Not soon, an event that is ongoing. What you saw painting itself on the wall a few minutes ago was done at the moment it occurred elsewhere in the world. The wall cannot predict future events but it can tell us of what is happening at the moment. Small details and day to day events are ignored, only significant moments in the life of a Hawk Lord are painted here. Each death and reincarnation, for example." The being that was Amun-Ra seemed temporarily saddened by the thought of the death of Hawk Lords, but the moment passed and the glowing orb that was his current form brightened again. "Only a god can ever truly kill a Hawk Lord, otherwise, they will come back in a new form when they are most needed by the world they serve."

The Liafador Matriarch set foot upon the warm sands of the once lost city. Dressed in her common black and red Matriarch attar she pulled the hood above her head to protect her skin from the raging sun above them. With two White Cardinals at her heels she began moving forward through the almost magical city. She was here for one reason... to seek out the legendary power that was said to reside inside. Zeon had a anger weighing inside her, her family had been attacked twice and while war was going to be started with the Knightfalls, Zeon felt useless to her family. She was not blessed with any powers, she was a mere human. Even with her life time of training and impressive skills that could put she was powerless against against high powered enemies. This angered her, this burned deep within her like a wild fire.

God... there had been much talk of gods and lords, in this place, with this Amun-Ra creature holding itself in impressive diefic placement. Of course, Leena had seen many places in her travels -- from vast cathedrals, to temples, and everything in between. She'd heard a great deal of gods and worship, heard of many gods, some existing alongside one another, some independent. In addition, some talk of gods regarded them as factual entities, genuine threats or benefactors to the world. It confused Leena, who understood fluctuations in both power and authority but understood little of the concept of godhood.

Blinking her massive, scarlet eye, the Hippy Imp turned to face the mural again, examining exactly what had been most recently being inscribed upon it.

@zeon_liafador:

(I'm going to place this as happening either before or after the Imp just to keep it simple)

Few beings were allowed into Thanagar, especially in its current state. Amun-Ra had returned but his Hawk Lords were still dead and gone. There was little to defend the ancient city from looters while the Sun God's physical form was still reforming. Little save for two Hawk Lords, both really the same person. When Zeoan and her cardinals set foot within the city there was a rush of wind and then one of the city's defenders landed not forty feet in front of them. The defender was none other than Solar Hawk who held her mace at the ready. She stared through the helmet at the woman and her escort. "The penalty for a mortal entering Thanagar without invitation is death." Solar Hawk said. "I have chosen not to in-act this penalty because Amun-Ra tells me you are a member of the Liafador family. I am familiar with one of your kin, but that buys you only so much in this city. This is the home of Amun-Ra, God of the Sun and creator of Egypt. For what purpose do you enter, what reason could you have to come here where the Sun God reforms his body?"

The statues of the great Hawk Lords of old stared down at them from all around the city, seeming to glare with anger under their hawk shaped helmets. One of those statues looked eerily familiar. A light breeze picked up and wafted through the streets, it carried away the sting of the sand and cooled the skin, but the sun bore down over head, as if daring the mortals to make a single false move. The banners that hung between buildings shifted curiously in the breeze and the normal sounds of the desert were now gone. Solar Hawk spread her wings, making herself appear larger and more threatening but also allowing her to immediately take flight if she needed to. Her mace, though still held at her side, crackled with electrical energy.

------------------------------------

@circumstance_imp:

The mural depicted a great battle in the sky with a mighty ocean striding monstrosity and the appearance of a second world in the sky above this one. It also showed Solar Hawk in every moment of her fight, from the time where it appeared she would die to the moment she and her companions were teleported off world inside the command deck of a huge flying aircraft carrier. Now the mural waited in pause, as if holding its breath to see what might happen next before depicting it again. Amun-Ra seemed to be observing it as well. "The tide of battle turns with every passing moment." He said. "But Solar Hawk was made for such moments and will rise to its occasion."

(cool with me)

A gust of wind startled her White Cardinals but the Matriarch stood tall as the winged warrior landed before them, weapon in hand. The White Cardinal’s hands were quickly placed upon the hilt of their blades before Zeon quickly outstretched her hand behind her, to show them to not to do anything without her order. She had actually done some reading about Solar Hawk, but the reading did no justice to her majestic figure. Behind her mask she smirked, listening to her speak with pride and confident in her power.

“My apologizes to you and Amun-Ra,” Zeon bowed her head in respects, to show she was not a threat. “I was not aware the land was forbidden or the fact it held the actual Sun God here.” She lift her head back up to pull the hood away from her head and then the lower portion of her mask to reveal her strong Liafador features to the fellow warrior. “I am Zeon Liafador, Matriarch of the Liafador Family.” Zeon introduced herself with pride. “I can see why my cousin has you on her team.” She took a casual step forward, nonthreatening, and a cool grin dancing along her lips. “You’re power can be felt even by a simple human.”

Her eyes never wavered from the woman to show that her intimidating figure didn’t waver the Wild Card Liafador. “I am not here to fight you, unless it is a fight you are looking for?” She questioned, resting her hands behind her back. “I am here because I heard stories of a great power in this city, one that mortals could grasp with their bare hands.” She held her head high, her brown eyes narrowing at Solar Hawk. “I need that power to help my family, to protect Maya.” Her words were true, she did need the power to protect her family, but she simply threw Maya’s name in there to sway Solar Hawk to her.

When it became apparent that Zeon had no intentions of causing trouble Solar Hawk folded her wings on her back. "I see." Solar Hawk said, studying the other woman for a moment. She paid no attention now to the Cardinals, either unimpressed with them or simply unconcerned by their presence. Solar Hawk glanced down for a moment and shook her head when Zeon said she needed the power to defend her family.

"There was a time when my people could darken the skies. We existed to protect people like you." She gestured around the empty city. "That day will come again, but it still pains me to know that ordinary people must go to such lengths in the modern world." Solar Hawk considered her for a moment in silence before she continued. "Your two guards will need to remain here. What I am about to show you and describe to you is meant only for a select few, there is nothing in Thanagar that will harm you so long as Amun-Ra is pleased to see you in its streets."

Zeon's calm demeanor managed to convince the Winged Warrior that she was here to go battle, this was good, the Matriarch wasn't in a mood for a fight at the moment, she was here for one thing, power. The prideful Liafador stood silently and listened to the story of Solar, giving a brief tale about her people, how they were once a large force to be reckoned with. "Its a shame your people have gone through the trials and tribulations that they have." Her way of giving her condolences about the loss of the Hawk Lords.

Then there it was, the invitation to walk through the city. But at a small cost. "Matriarch, we cannot let you go alone!" One of her Cardinals opposed the idea of Zeon going in without someone to watch her back.

Turning her attention to her Cardinals for a moment, her eyes calm as she gave them a nod. "I will be fine. You may go, I'll find you when we are finished." Her voice rang with authority over her men who bowed their head and began walking away, obeying their mistress.Turning her attention back to Solar Hawk she nod her head, waiting for her to lead the way, not wanting to make too bold of a move.

@zeon_liafador:

Solar Hawk was quiet for a majority of their walk. The city always had an effect on her, seeing it empty was painful even though she knew her people would be coming back soon enough. In her view, this was a shining mockery of her greatest failure. "Many tens of thousands of years ago a series of sects were established based upon emotion." Solar Hawk said, speaking at last as they arrived at a small nondescript building deep within the city. The ancient Hawk Lord pushed aside a bead curtain and revealed the only object in the room, a small stone pillar on-top of which sat an ornate wooden box covered in unusual symbols (the symbols of each of the lantern sects).

"There used to be a complicated process for determining who was best suited for which organization, but those sects have vanished." She said, walking around behind the box and removed a glove from her hand. She placed her hand on the box, revealing a glowing white ring on her ring finger, the top of which was engraved with a symbol identical to one of the symbols on the box. "I have to trust the rings to decide now." She said. "I have my misgivings about someone who comes strolling into my city asking for power." Solar Hawk explained, observing the Liafador. "But I know Maya and my ring likes you." She added. "So my misgivings must be ignored for now."

Her ring flashed and white energy washed over the box. There was an audible click and the lid opened to reveal a series of colored rings, each with a symbol carved into its top most surface. "There are responsibilities that come with a ring." She said. "It's not just about power to do what you need to do, but power to fulfill the tasks of the ring itself. I have to dedicate myself to restoring the lost sects and bringing life back into the universe. What new responsibility you are tasked with will rely upon which ring chooses you. This is the price you pay."

There was one missing ring, a single place that clearly should have held a ring but did not. Solar Hawk said nothing of it but there was a distinct sense of dread coming from the place the ring had once sat in, as if a great evil were missing but its power lingered even in the box.

"Close your eyes." Solar Hawk said. "And picture in your mind all the greatest crimes against your family you have born witness to, let yourself feel whatever comes to you naturally as a result."

Whatever she felt would wash over her in cataclysmic waves, emotion would be amplified many thousands of times as the rings effectively interviewed their new candidate. Only the most powerful response would be chosen.

[ Didn't get a tag for this, sorry. ]

Leena's mouth opened slightly as she watched the mural tell its tale, adding new chronicles to those of ancient times as if no space had passed in between. A few brief chirps in her own language quickly faded back to the ancient Egyptian dialect in which she had been speaking to Amun-Ra. "Battle for what purpose?" she chimed, turning back to face the glowing orb. "Who seeks to prevent the rise of a new nation?"

She understood, of course, that Earth was a warlike place, and that battles were fought for any small or large reason. Still, in contrast to the general harmony of the Veiled Forest -- and Leena's own utopian Midnight Realm in particular -- the concept of a newly rising nation being forced to fight in order to establish itself seemed preposterous. Surely, on a world so vast, there was enough room for all? Even this place, this lost city, was large enough for a new civilization to take root.

@solarhawk:

The two warriors were silent as they made their way through the ghost town of a city. Zeon’s eyes gazed upon it and began imagine the power that once rushed through it… taken out by possibly a more powerful force, and the Liafador couldn’t help but feel the same way about her family. They were strong, many people respected them, but now there was a force that threatened their existence. She refused to let the Liafador name fall to ruins like this city.

The Matriarch listened to the story that Solar Hawk was telling her, or I suppose she was more explaining something to her, something she didn’t really understand yet. A power that was based off of people’s emotions? Her brow arched with curiosity. Human emotion was a powerful thing; it could build nations or bring one down. It could make someone a hope inspiring hero or a terror bringing villain. The two walked into a building with Zeon one step behind Solar. Nothing special in particular was about the building, it was made of stone… writing of old passages along the wall, stale air lingering inside.

But the two then passed through a lush curtain, and before the two were several wooden boxes, symbols upon them that Zeon had never seen before and in that instant, power could almost be touched in the atmosphere around them. The Liafadors eyes widen with surprise, continually listening to Solar as she spoke, walking up to a box and lifting a ring from it, one that gave a pure white glow. If Zeon could get a hold of one…

Her attention snapped back to Hawk, her eyes almost smiling as she mentioned she didn’t fully trust Zeon, which was wise of her. While Zeon was Matriarch of the Liafador Family, her thirst for revenge of her wounded cousin was so high that she had actually traveled across the world to search for a power that was just a rumor. But now… a power was sitting right before her, multiple different rings, that would give her who knew what kind of power. There was talk about responsibility, the ‘price’ for the ring. She didn’t understand what that meant, she didn’t understand exactly what was before her. The prideful warrior just knew she needed this.

Nodding her head she closed her eyes, standing tall as memories of the pain her family had gone through began to play through her mind. Then, she began feeling a burning sensation in the pit of her stomach, like anger. Flashes of her father’s betrayal, her sister Jessica attacking her, Quintus and Catalina hurting her family, it became so overwhelming. Anger shift to a fire like rage as her jaw clenched tightly. Her hands balled up into fists, her knuckles white as she could feel her heart pound fiercely in her chest. The rage inside her felt as if it was amplified a million times fold, consuming her down to her soul. Then, it became too much to contain, she had to let the wild fire out, and in that moment she finally let out a roar of thunder. But as quickly as it consumed her, it vanished, leaving her breathless as she opened her eyes, overwhelmed with what just happened as they found their way to a box with a symbol that was glowing crimson.

It was as if Solar Hawk wasn’t even there anymore, as if nothing was around her but the box before her. She could feel the pull of the box, the ring inside, almost calling her. She began walking forward, her expression hard as stone as she felt the same burning sensation began to linger inside her with every step she took. Then, there she was, standing in front of it, her hands slowly reached out to it as she could feel the tingle of excitement flourish through her as her slender fingers grasped into each side of the box’s rough exterior. Slowly her hands pushed the box open and the same power she felt surge through her seconds ago, could be felt coming from the box that was giving a crimson glow, shining upon her face.

But then control came back to her, even for just a second as she realized what she was doing. She shook her head for a moment, trying to clear her thoughts as she closed the lid of the box and took a step back. Her attention shifting back to Solar as she took in a deep breath to try and calm the anger that had began building up once more. “Le mie scuse.” She apologized in her Italian tongue. “I… had never felt anything like that before. This power… it’s… overwhelming.” She gazed back at the box for a moment. “I assume the emotional sect of that box is anger?” her eyes then looked back at the ground. She was consumed with anger, that power chose her because of the anger she had been holding in for so long, the anger that she let dictate some of her choices in life. She wasn't sure if she should be worried or not about the sect that chose her. “You spoke of responsibilities that come with the power, the ‘price’ you said… what exactly is the price for that ring?” Even though everything in her body yearned to touch that ring, to place it upon her finger, she needed to know exactly what she was going to be getting herself into once she did.

@zeon_liafador:

"Red is the sect of anger and hatred." Solar Hawk began. "Your task would be to bring it back, recruit new members and re-establish a presence on their home world. Red Lanterns clean and purify with the fire of anger, leaving neither good nor evil untouched. You would be, in your own way, a balancing force to the universe. You would have to constantly fight the draw of the ring, for the Red Rings can turn weaker willed bearers into maniacs of hatred. It is not a safe choice, but it is also not a choice that you yourself make. The ring has chosen you, you must only choose if you wish to accept. If you think you have the strength of will to control the ring rather than allow your anger to completely consume you, it will be the power that you seek." Solar Hawk's own white ring glowed brightly in the poorly lit room. "The immediate price is the responsibility of finding like members, just as my immediate price is restoring the sects, even the ones I disagree with, to power." When she said disagree with, she glanced briefly to the only empty box in the room.

The pull of the red ring was strong, even though she had resisted it once, it still called out to the Liafador Matriarch. "I think you would bear the ring well." Solar Hawk said. "But you will be fighting a battle of wills for the rest of your life. I want you to be aware of that, to know everything you must know before you decide to take that battle on. You will be called to expand the red lanterns, keep the rings with you in a safe place and give them only to those who can fight the battle of will you would also be fighting." Solar Hawk walked around the room, shutting each of the boxes in turn and listening to the soft hiss of them sealing shut. "Can you handle that?" She asked.

@circumstance_imp

"The current battle is between global heroes and a force seeking to corrupt the planet." Amun-Ra explained. "But to answer your question, there are always those who oppose the creation of a new state because they fear it will encroach upon their own power. Even if resources were limitless, the ambition of humanity and gods is equally so. There will always be a desire by some to lord over others." Amun-Ra's golden orb levitated over to the mural as if he were standing there gazing at it in contemplation. "Soon Egypt shall rise again, the Hawk Lords will return and my people will be protected from such things by the beings I created to keep them safe. The two survivors are most remarkable people, I hope you get to meet them soon, they have fought for centuries to restore what has been lost. Luna Hawk has died nearly one hundred times and still she goes on."

@solarhawk: (Question, it didn't say in the description of each ring or at least I didn't see if it did, do the rings work like Lantern Rings? Energy blasts with ring, flight, all that stuff? or is the red ring limited to fire and lightning?)

The responsibility for the ring was almost too much of a hassle for the actual power that would come with it. She would bring ‘balance’ of taking out both good and evil, an almost neutral force to be reckoned with on both sides, but she wasn’t looking to bring balance. She would also have to seek those like her to behold a ring. She was going to be busy enough with her family; did she really have time for that? But the call of the ring continued to tug at her, her eyes would continually shift over to the box. Even with her years of mediation and self-discipline, it was still an overwhelming sensation that was difficult to ignore. She wanted to feel that power surge through her once more; she knew it was what she was seeking, that power was going to help her keep her family safe.

But was the safety of her family worth the possible sacrifice of her own sanity? Would she be able to withstand the influence of the ring? Or would she fall victim to it and end up putting her family at risk? Could she afford a decision like this? Could she not afford it? Debate weighed heavily in the eyes of the Matriarch as she crossed her arms along her chest. “I don’t think it’s a choice I have the luxury to decline.” Her chestnut eyes darted over to Solar, nodding her head. “I accept these terms.”

@zeon_liafador:

Solar Hawk nodded and opened the red ring's box again. "There is an oath, the ring will inform you of what it is. You can use the oath during battle to unlock additional powers in times of extreme need and you must say it to gain any power from the ring at all. It will connect your mind with the ring and back again." She pulled the ring from the box and put it into the Liafador's hand carefully. "Our rings are not natural enemies of one another, though neither are they natural allies. It is entirely possible that we will be on opposite ends of a struggle one day, but for now we are both linked. I am a White Lantern, we are called upon very rarely for ours is a power best kept under wraps unless absolutely needed. I'll aide you in learning to use the ring as best I can but you will likely find your ring more useful. You will also find that your ring can translate foreign and alien languages for you. Mine, for example, translates what I say from ancient Egyptian to modern English, or whatever language the listener understands." She smiled a little. "I'm trying to learn English, but academics was never my strong suit."

The Ring, even sitting in her hand, was able to transmit the required oath to the Liafador's mind:

With blood and rage of crimson red,

Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,

Together with our hellish hate,

We'll burn you all--that is your fate!

"I hope to meet them, also," Leena said, slightly haltingly. Despite her ability to adapt to languages that were not her own, they took a bit out of her, and she persistently spoke with an accent that simply could not be shaken. "There are two hawks, then, your he-roes... ones you believe will win your war? It is much faith to place in two individuals, nan-al chan sh-sh."

@solarhawk:

The ring was beginning to sound as if it had a mind of it's own, or a being in itself. Hawk began explaining things she still did not completely understand. She began to explain that she was a White Lantern herself, so now a white and red lantern stood side by side, and promises of teachings were made. "I see." She spoke as her eyes rested on the glowing ring that was now in her hand. It gave an electric burning sensation as it rest upon her palm, more intense draw to the power than it was while it was resting in the box seconds ago.

Then a voice began to echo in her mind, it was almost a growl, venomous with anger as it roared the last part of the oath. Within that instant, it was as if the oath had been a part of her since birth, she knew it by heart. Gently picking up the ring with her other hand she slowly slipped it upon her right ring finger, and instantly she could feel a power rush through her, but she could feel the full link between the two had yet been made. Balling her hand into a fist she rose it just below her eyes, looking down at it as she began to repeat the oath.

"With blood and rage of crimson red,

Ripped from a corpse so freshly dead,

Together with our hellish hate,

We'll burn you all-- that is your fate!"

Instantly she felt the connection as a wave of crimson energy erupted from the ring in a chaotic manor, rushing over the mortal Liafador. Her eyes went from a chestnut brown to a deep ruby glow and she could feel the fire of anger burning upon her mind. That was what Hawk was talking about. While she felt stronger... she wasn't exactly sure WHAT the powers were that came with the ring. "I can see more of what you mean." Zeon spoke, shifting her attention from the ring and back to Solar. "This ring, it feeds off of anger, like a fire. But... aside from influencing anger upon me... what power does it actually produce?"

"That ring grants an array of powers." Solar Hawk began to answer. "it will grant you the power to project rage infused plasma, blasts of fire fueled by anger and it can create energy constructs based entirely on your thoughts as fueled by your anger. The only limitation on these constructs is your anger toward your foe. Like most of the rings it can also create a protective barrier and allows you to fly by manipulating gravity. You will find you are capable of visualizing the hearts of your foes when you cannot see them so long as you are able to manipulate them into a state of anger or if they are already angry." Solar Hawk let that all sink in for a moment before she continued. "Finally, you can absorb the rage of others to fuel your own ring and...finally and perhaps most importantly, it grants you an unnatural resistance to..." She glanced toward the empty box. "The Black Ring. Hopefully you never find yourself in need of using that power. Also it will translate foreign languages into your natural language for you, just as mine does and it will translate for others as well. You will find that the level of damage you can do with the ring is limited only by the anger in your heart...and that the more you fuel it, the deeper your connection to the ring will grow."

Solar Hawk put a hand on her shoulder for a moment. "Eventually, you won't be able to remove the ring without risking your life, but that will only come into play when your connection has grown truly deep. Always be careful, hold something in your heart other than anger."

The power that came with the ring was exactly what Zeon needed. It seemed whatever the Matriarch wanted, it could be done. Her eyes then shift back to Hawk, who she felt wasn't telling her everything about the ring. She heeded a warning, but didn't understand. "What do you mean I won't be able to remove the ring without risking my life?" Had she just condone her own death sentence by seeking out this power? "Why didn't you mention this before I accepted the ring?" Irritation for of the lack of important detail oozed through her voice. Was it the rings influence? Or was it her own?

"Right now you can take it off whenever you want." She said, attempting to clarify her earlier meaning. "But the more you give in to the will of the ring the more connected it will become. It is about will power. If your will holds you have nothing to worry about." Solar Hawk squeezed her shoulder lightly. "I am here for you as a fellow Lantern if you need my guidance and help. I can help you focus your will. Hawk Lords are nothing if not exceptionally stubborn." She offered a smile.

"These two people have never failed me." He said. "They have put their lives before mine in the past and stood against Gods to try to win, there are not two more loyal warriors in the world than those two." Amun-ra explained. "If they don't succeed now, they will succeed later because they will never stop so long as there is breath in their lungs and a weapon in their hands. When everyone else loses their motivation, feels the situation is hopeless, Solar and Luna Hawk grit their teeth and keep going."

Her eyes laid upon the hand that rested on her shoulder before looking back at Hawk. Her expression would have been difficult to read as she then slipped the ring off her finger, the once anger that was scratching at the back of her mind subsided as she gave off a sigh of relief. "I would appreciate the assistance." The Matriarch began. "I need to be prepared."

"Then I will give you the training you need." Solar Hawk assured her. "I will meet you at your palace for the training, Thanagar is not the place to do it. There are things here that mortal eyes are not meant to see. For what it's worth, there is only one power that can defeat every ability in the universe." She said and tapped the temple of her own helmet. "Your will guides everything."

With a nod of her head she bowed her head in respect of the Hawk Lord wishes. "Very well." Lifting her head back up she then reached into her pocket, and pulled out a card with the White Cardinal symbol on it, holding it out to Hawk. "Take this, when you arrive at the Palace, show it to the guards, they will notify me of your arrival and let you onto the Palace grounds without any trouble." she instructed.

"Willpower may guide us... but sometimes, you have to get angry to get things done. Arrivederci." With that she nod her head as she turned away from Solar and made her way out the exit. She needed to get back home. She had been away from the Palace for quiet some time, and there was no doubt that there was business she would need to attended to.

(We'll continue this in the palace :D If you wanna post something there I'll respond to it but it most likely wont be until Friday afternoon, just to let you know.)

Alexander had been strengthening himself through rigorous training and it was finally showing promise. Scavenging and hunting during his journey to Thanagar had improved his diet from meager rodents and insects to mammals and river fish high in protein. During his lessons in the Reisho, he had honed his chi utilizing it to vitalize all his basic needs, now able to go weeks without nutrition and days without water, and though he didn't need the supplementation, he still supported himself if food would eventually become scarce. He had arrived to the desert ruins days ago and had now been sitting cross legged only a few miles away from what had been an oasis. His eyes were a bit weary as he gazed upon the land of old and pondered his next move.

Should he journey down and explore for something that would help him on his mission of self improvement? Or should he contact a comrade- No. A friend that he had fought alongside and against. Lunahawk and Solarhawk. Alexander had grown to trust literally no one since his self imposed exile, but the situation almost dictated that he speak to them. The fighting styles they had mastered were brutal, and straight forward unlike his last master that had focused on his spiritual needs. He sighed, exasperated with the thoughts of informing anyone of his survival.

He looked down at the Vengeance communicator that had been used to relay the news of his death to other Gothic vigilantes. It's screen was shrouded in dirt and grime while the black screen was scratched. Void of all power, he debated internally whether to turn it on and send the message.

No. The risk is too great. Anyone with a gameboy and internet could probably pick up my signal at this point if they had the right know how. The hawks will come to me. This is their home and they'll likely visit often.

He threw the piece of outdated electronic into his leather satchel and retrieved his ebony cowl among the contents. He gripped it lightly with a frown upon his face. The eye holes had cracks forming towards the temple and one of the sharp horns was completely broken off. It use to be a symbol of retribution, but now had become a reminder of his failures. The hawks didn't know his identity as Alexander Rook, District Attorney, but only as Dark Vengeance. Against all humiliation, he placed it on his grimy head and rugged face.

Now. We wait.

He had only a short time to wait. Both Hawks were in the area that day but Luna Hawk was attending to something with Amun-Ra, so it was left up to Solar Hawk to investigate the arrival of a mortal in a realm still meant only for a god and his Hawk Lords. Solar Hawk swept over in one pass, going by at high altitude to get a general idea as to what she was dealing with. Even from high above her enhanced vision could pin point details of the man sitting in the sands and she practically fell out of the sky. Solar Hawk was torn between fury and shock when she did a circle in the sky and came back around, the sound barrier screaming as she increased her speed to get back to his location.

When Solar Hawk arrived she dropped out of the sky and landed in front of him, the sand exploding out around her feet. She stood to her full height, gripping her mace in one hand. "If you aren't him, I'll kill you where you stand." She said, the tension in her muscles obvious, she was ready to strike at a moment's notice. "If you are him..." She didn't know. If he's him what exactly? You'll kill him again out of frustration? No that's not in the cards. In truth no one had ever made Solar Hawk feel this way before, or sense. Deep down she realized it had to be him. By Ra what have you done to me? Solar Hawk focused to clear her mind, she would analyze what the hell was going on later. "Identify yourself." She demanded instead. "And if you aren't him you have one chance to explain why you're defiling his memory. If you are him you have one chance to explain why you aren't dead and why you..." She trailed off quietly. Why the hell I want to either crush your skull or rip off your clot...oh hell. The realization of just how she had come to feel for the supposedly dead vigilante struck her rather suddenly.

Alexander didn't have to wait long as he realized his contact was rapidly approaching him. Normally his cowl would be able to pick up nearly any possible anomaly miles away, whether it be a change in temperature, sound, or odd figures, but the worn down cowl was powered by nothing at this point. Instead, he had to rely on his peak senses. His ears perked slightly as he heard the wind being sliced like a razor had been cutting through it's clouds.

Sh*t.

It didn't take a master detective to expect her to be angry, but he was still a little caught off guard as she rippled down to the ground and slammed into the sand, causing the floor beneath them to quake. She was beyond pissed. Her tone physique rivaled even that of of the sleeveless Ebony Avenger, as she gasped for air trying to quell her own anger.

Her furious entrance had caused the sand to fly against his sweat soak shirt and even though he was unmoved by the act of power, he couldnt help but admire her rage. Any one else would have probably been intimidated by the threats she spewed, but Vengeance incarnate was hiding a smile. He didn't trust her. He couldn't. Not after Nox. But he wanted to, and that meant everything.

"It's me."

He said cooly while standing still.

"As you might have heard, I did die."

He paused, changing his voice into a more firm and stern tone before continuing.

"Well, at least a part of me. I've been spending my time incognito and occupying myself with other things."

He kept speaking flawlessly without actually referencing his most recent master at the Reisho Monastery, keeping to his word as to breathe any information of his training.

"I need you."

There was no point in mincing words or procrastinating the nature of his visit to her. While he was away his mind had lingered to the memory of the hawk warrior among others such as Nox and his sister, Dragonfang, but his thoughts about them were of a different nature when compared to her. Such possibilities were put in the back of his desires. For now. The mission to return to Gothic took the forefront of everything he was, but that did little to keep his eyes from wandering to her athletic frame.

Did it ever occur to you that I needed you too! Why the hell am I mad at you?!

She lowered her mace slowly and discharged the electrical energy that had been coursing through it back into her own body. Her chest rose and fell in silence for a moment as she breathed, working on calming her roiling emotions until she had a better idea of how to approach the situation. The rules of Thanagar were clear but she had made an exception before. She could do so again. "You look like hell." She said finally. "You need to get cleaned up before Amun-Ra sees you." She motioned for him to follow her into the half ruined city and started to walk towards the home of Amun-Ra. "You are one of a very few mortals that has ever been allowed into Thanagar. If you were anyone else...you would not be here." She said. If he was watching her athletic frame the view didn't worsen from the back. She kept her wings half unfurled, still clearly irritated either with herself or him...or both.

She was quiet for the majority of their walk, only speaking again when they set foot on the stone roads of the city. "I..." She half turned, looking back at him. "I feel like I failed you." She said at last. "I think that's why I'm so angry. I tried to do something, I organized what people I could but..." She made a little shrugging motion.

In that moment Luna Hawk landed not far from her, perhaps thirty feet. The other Hawk Lord gazed at him in a much more controlled state. He had never seen them so close together before, the resemblance was uncanny, like looking at Solar Hawk in some sort of strange mirror. Their physical features were identical, at least to the naked eye. True Luna Hawk dressed differently, carried herself with a bit more diplomacy and calm, but they looked all the world to be otherwise the same person. "But people are idiots." She finished for Solar Hawk. "They were all afraid of the League of Shadows, few of them would agree to help us fight them for you. I don't know why, you're clear evidence they suck at their job."

Solar Hawk looked down, not convinced by Luna Hawk's words that her attempt to aide him after his death had been anything but her own fault.

For a moment, Vengeance was almost absolutely certain that she would swing her iconic mace directly and mercilessly to his rugged jaw. He waited for the strike, but it never came. Instead she relaxed a bit. Far from calm, but noticeably less offended. He scoffed at her light insult. "Well, I feel great." He wasn't being sarcastic, but purely honest as he was in full control of the chi flowing through his body. Quietly, he followed her as she strutted ambitiously with her alluring aerial appendages swaying between them causing a mesmerizing almost tantalizing. She spoke about him being one of the very few to ever enter the forbidden city restricted to the Hawk Lords. She was either becoming increasingly difficult to read, or he was so focused on her that he didn't care.

"Solar….You had no way of knowing the things that had transpired. No one did, to include myself."

He tried to sound reassuring while keeping up his monotone and strict facade that was required in the cowl, but it was too demanding. He wanted to say something more. That he should have been there. That he should have fought harder. He shouldn't have trusted Nox even though in the end, it was he that saved his life even though it had cost a great deal. But he couldn't. So instead, he bit his tongue back and held onto his thoughts. Another Hawk Lord had saved the duo from any more tension as she landed gracefully before them and finished the sentence. The new guest brought Vengeance back to his senses and to the person he truly was.

"We don't need others. The League will fall, but it will take a organized and perfectly executed plan with no room for error. We need time, skill, tactics and a team. We have none of those at the moment. Not at the level we need at least."

He looked sideways towards his winged guide, sensing her shame. If only he could muster the courage to open up, or even so much as a comforting palm on her shoulder. He held back however, and waited for the group's next move.

Solar Hawk shrugged off the shame...at least for now. She lifted her mace non-threateningly. "We have two Hawk Lords and you, that is all we need." She said. "We will train together, you need to know how we fight and we need to know how you fight. Then we will destroy their organization and bring their little underworld to its knees." She said firmly. She started to walk again, intent on showing him to the training area. Luna Hawk hung back a little and walked beside him when they set off again. When she spoke it was very low, she had to keep Solar Hawk from hearing them after all, a difficult prospect but she managed. "If you don't take that mask off and tell her everything is ok later tonight, I will do it for you. I don't know what nearly dying did to you, or partially dying or whatever it was, but that's me you're talking to over there and I know what she's feeling."

The training area was, not surprisingly, open ground. There were a large quantity of wooden weapons and a few Nth Metal ones strewn about on stands but in between those stands was just a dusty field. There was no safety equipment, no nets to catch you if you fell from up high, just the hard dirt and harder weapons. There wasn't even water to clean wounds with.

"On this field, Hawk Lords have risen." Solar Hawk said. She walked into the middle of it and turned to face him. "Out here, nothing is held back or nothing happens. This field is for the truth and the truth only, all other concerns are left behind. Out here you have to trust your opponent not to kill you if they have the chance, you have to trust them with your life because every time you fight beside them, you are doing exactly that." She put her mace on her belt and walked over to one of the wooden beating sticks and tossed it to him. "I know that will be difficult for you." Solar Hawk reached up and took off her mask, tossing it to the side.

Luna Hawk removed her helmet as well, also tossing it to the side.

There it was, the truth most of the world never saw.

Luna Hawk and Solar Hawk were the same exact person. The hair was different but everything else was identical down to the last facial feature.

@fugue: It's my first time writing something emotional/shipping. I hope it's not too lame lol

@solarhawk:

"As much as I appreciate your enthusiasm, it's not enough. I've fought them before and they know how I fight. Well, how I use to fight."

He stopped himself and considered every single possible outcome that could be reached if they waged a small war against the League with only themselves.

"No. It's not possible."

As pessimistic as it sounded, it rang true. Even though Vengeance had been training in secrecy and learning new skills and tactics he had never knew existed, the League was always prepared for anything. It was a infamous reputation that had preceded them well and laid proof in the wake of destruction upon everything they set their hungry eyes onto. He still followed suit into the training ground while still calculating how to approach the mission that loomed over the horizon.

If we were to strike against the shadows, they needed trained numbers. The hawks were strong, powerful and more than willing, but their similar fighting styles could seem problematic if they remained along side each other. Nox was an important ally, but he was young and despite his high intelligence, was the true definition of a Lone Wolf. Also, I had no knowledge if he had made his move against the group of assassins from inside their network yet. I can't risk blowing his cover prematurely. Fugue was out of the question. The Blonde Banshee seemed reluctant with anything that didn't involve her immediate well being or desires. Time is all I needed to form a plan, so until things start falling into place, I'll train relentlessly once more.

Lunahawk slowed her pace and spoke in almost a whisper to Vengeance, snapping him out of his thinking. Momentarily letting her words sink in. As much as he wanted to trust them, he couldn't do it. Nox indirectly saved Alexander from death, but the wounds of betrayal were still fresh and caused a great deal of apprehension. It isn't everyday someone wakes up in a pitch black coffin and believe themselves dead and in a perpetual hell.

"No."

At least not now. Not until….I just….I just need to get some sparring in.

He gripped the rather thick wooden stick with his palm, letting the weight control itself as it swam through his hand. It felt alien in his fingertips, but he still managed to handle it expertly. Focused onto the practice weapon, he failed to see the scene unfolding before him. it wasn't until the loud clang of metal hitting the floor did he see the winged warriors before him unmasking themselves. His eyes widened behind his gray lenses and a silent 'wow' fell from his scarred lips.

They were exactly the same in literally every single facial feature with the exception of hairstyle. A strong, but feminine jaw structure and piercing eyes that matched their smooth skin. He'd be lying if he said it wasn't a little apprehensive about hitting her in the face. But it wouldn't stop him nor make him hesitate. It was training that would strengthen their desire for surviving. Their lives hanged in the balance. The more you sweat in training, the less you bleed in battle.

Solar Hawk waited for a moment and then attacked. Luna Hawk remained on the sidelines for now.

Solar Hawk's attack was unexpectedly fast and brought her combat staff around to the side of his left knee, intent on an immediately crippling strike. She held back her strength of course, well aware that he wouldn't be able to regenerate his wounds but it was still going to hurt a great deal if he let it connect. There was no flash or flourish to her attack, the only sign it was even coming was when she suddenly shifted and made her attack. She did nothing to disguise it, nothing to obfuscate it, she just attacked and her first target wasn't a disarming strike or one meant to create distance, she lacked that sort of finesse. Instead the attack was designed to cripple from the get go. If she had been using her full strength, she'd be easily capable of shattering his knee.

"She's not a fan of the word no." Luna Hawk said with a smirk. Especially not when she's accidentally fallen in love with someone and is just now realizing it. Your her one chance in this life time, don't ruin it for her.
