Soaring to new heights of righteousness

Name: Gregory Graham

Walking tall
Walking tall

Alias: The Telescopic Man

Alignment: Good

Occupation: Inventor, adventurer

Appearance: Brown hair and eyes, light skin. Short. Skinny build.

Origin: Who is Gregory Graham? Not many people knew. He was a nice guy, always helping others instead of himself. You could say his life so far, however, was a series of missed opportunities. He was always looking out for the little guy, but unfortunately for Gregory, not many people looked out for him. Greg was a smart guy, a prodigy, even, but he missed his chance at the good life when he dropped out of college to support his poor family instead. Greg was going to be the next Edison, the next Einstein; but unfortunately, he just didn't have the time to help himself along with everyone else. Taking a meager job as a worker in a hydraulics factory, Greg instead decided that rather than waste his talents at the assembly line, he'd covertly focus instead on what he wanted to do. A missing part here, a misplaced tube there, it wasn't enough to cause any suspicion. But any part that went missing or unwanted eventually made its way to Greg's family barn. Working at the factory in the day and in his barn at night, Greg developed a new hydraulic "ram" system, which he proudly displayed to the town and his administrators in the factory. Before he could patent his new invention, however, the factory instead seized his new rams, passing the design off as their own. Yes, it was awful, horrendously so. Greg had been unjustly deprived of his big break as an inventor. And yet, he didn't let that stop him. He further refined the design on the rams, making notes in his notebook, drawing up new applications for the rams every night.

That's when Goodman-Trot Industries came in. Seeing his potential as an inventor, they hired Greg, providing money for him and his family, provided he refine his invention of the advanced hydraulic ram for the company. Goodman-Trot was a relatively small inventing firm, but they had recently acquired ties to the NYPD and the United States military as inventors of new technology for them to use. The company executives gave Greg a new job: the design, construction, and application of his hydraulic ram in combat and law-enforcement. They planned for it to be a tool for breaking down doors; but Greg had something else in mind. Inspired by the heroics of the superhuman community, Greg went to work constructing a specialized suit that utilized his rams for the arms and legs. With nearly unlimited funding and time provided by Goodman-Trot, he soon had a prototype of his suit ready to be sold to police forces all around the country.

But then, everything changed when Washington was attacked.

With the loss of valuable investors, Goodman-Trot soon began to divert funds from the more creative projects to the baser needs of the company. Soon, Goodman-Trot was on the brink of collapse. Rather than lose everything they had worked for, the executives instead opted to sell the company to a man named Victor Tenth, who soon re-organized the company into Tenth Industries. With business once again booming under the leadership of Mister Tenth, Greg hoped that his suit would finally see the light of day. With enhanced technology afforded to him personally by the executives, Greg was able to improve his original design one-hundred times over. The suit was now a light-weight masterpiece of engineering, with extendable arms and legs, as well as an internal gyroscope and self-repair function that could keep it functioning even in the most extreme conditions. Right when Greg thought he had invented something that could potentially change the way people lived...his employer unexpectedly dropped funding from the "Telescopic Man" project to instead fund the new Manhattan-based Champions of Peace. With only one Telescopic Man suit prototype finished, Greg was instead "retired with benefits" by his employer, in order to save the company money.

Greg had everything a reasonable person could want; money, a nice house, and no more need to work. But now...Greg wasn't able to do what he wanted to do most: use his invention to help people. With the Telescopic Man project deemed a failure by the government, Greg instead resolved to use the suit himself, in order to make life genuinely better for everyone. Using his money to buy his own company, GrahamTech, he continues to invent new gadgets to enhance the quality of life for people around the world. But he wasn't finished; unwilling to let the Telescopic Man project and the years of his life it took up go to waste, Greg would don the armor as a costumed adventurer, taking to the rooftops to fight crime, and to make the world a little more peaceful.

Capabilities: The Telescopic Suit's main functional advantage is its unique arms and legs, which possess the ability to extend far beyond those of conventional armored suits. The suit itself is composed of extraordinarily durable micro-alloy weave that allows it to absorb most kinetic forms of impact, courtesy of Tenth Industries, which previously owned the project before closing it. The extendable arms and legs are similarly durable, allowing Graham to deliver punches and kicks with extreme force behind them. As the original function of the hydraulic ram technology that is utilized in the arms and legs of the suit was to break down barricades, it was easy for the tech to be adapted into a weapon. An internal gyroscope prevents Graham from losing his balance, allowing him to always stand tall in his fight against injustice. The suit's self-repair functions enable it to fix any components of the suit that may be damaged by Graham's opponents. The maximum distance that can be achieved by the arms and legs of the suit is as-of-yet unrecorded, but it is suggested that the technology used can make them extend to ridiculous distances. As these distances are rather impractical, it is unlikely that the maximum length of the arms and legs will ever be discovered. Graham can also use the ram function of the legs to make extraordinary jumps from a standing position, as well as land from great heights and suffer no ill effects. The rams are capable of pushing up to 25 tons unaltered, and lifting approximately 5. The striking power of the suit is enough to drive completely through a block of concrete with relative ease. The maximum pressure output of the suit has yet to be recorded.

An air-filter keeps Graham's oxygen fresh at high elevations, and an air-supply can provide him with air for up to two standard hours in oxygen-less environments.

A sound filter prevents loud noises from damaging Graham's ears while in the suit.

Anti-magnetic countermeasures ensure that Graham won't accidentally be stuck to a magnet, and prevent the suit from being deactivated by EMP attacks.

(Current) Telescopic Man 2.0

Recently, Greg teamed up with his brother to re-invent the suit, adding a host of new capabilities. The details can be found here and here.

Skills: Graham is a genius with a knack for inventing. While never formally educated, Graham has the capacity to learn new things quickly and to invent new gadgets without help or instruction.

Graham has no hand-to-hand combat skill or experience.

Paraphernalia: See "Capabilities."

@cyrus_winchester: @shadowswordmaster:

Thank you. My character objective of the week this week was to take a horribly obscure "fail" character (Stilt-Man) and turn him into an interesting one.

Also, I've always loved Stilt-Man. He's hands-down the best Daredevil villain there is.

@cyrus_winchester:

Yeah, he's one of those characters that you'll never see on the silver screen. At least recently he took on Spider-Man and Daredevil at the same time, and at least gave them a somewhat decent fight. It made me really happy, to be honest.
