Kael'Drono, in the heart of the Shadowthorn Vale, is home to the elegant and hardy Blood Elves. Born survivors, they are Elves who broke off from the main network of the Twilight Elves to pursue their own existence in Skellbrieg. Similar to the Wood Elves, they became aloof and obsessive. However, instead of concerning every waking moment of their being to survival and defense, their ancient leaders and masterminds opted to construct great wonders of science and magic, always delving into the innermost recesses of arcane discovery and mystical exploration. They were the curious children of their wizened kin, already old in the world's eyes but young at heart.
Perhaps this is when they awakened the ire of the Eight Gods of Ancient Chaos.
The Blood Elves once existed as the most technologically advanced nation on the face of Skellbrieg. Combined with their arcane mastery, this would have placed them above and beyond anything humanity was capable of at the time. Save, their curiosity knew no bounds at this age. They had yet to learn of their limitations, and the borders they should never tread upon. One day, the magi of Kael'Drono opened a portal to a different world, eager to explore it and discover everything it held. This world...was Fargate.
In a matter of hours, the entirety of the world sat on the precipice of disaster. Having sensed something amiss in the temporal fabric, the Pit Lord Kalgoth sent a regiment of demonic warriors to investigate. It took everything the Blood Elves possessed in their arsenal, and still the demons poured in through the gap, now sensing the rip in time and space as a malleable entrance into Skellbrieg. Panic spread. Fear overtook the citizens, and the city would have been lost if not for the timely intervention of the magi responsible.
They atoned for their sin of sacrificing the safety of their people in the only way they foresaw would keep the entire world from being besieged. They surrendered their physical forms to the Nether and collapsed the portal. The resulting implosion scarred the land forever on both sides of the conflict. On Skellbrieg, the Shadowthorn Vale became divided between living and dead halves, the uninhabitable parts of the once-proud Blood Elf empire having been overrun with aimless Desecrated resurrected by the fel energies.
And on Fargate, the Cracked Spheres sank into a storm of eldritch magic that is calculated to be endless.
But the Infernal Phalanx had finally gotten a taste of Elf flesh after many years. It wanted more.
