"Hello, I'm Dr. Alexandra Steele. I am a trained psychiatrist with a PhD. If you just need someone to talk to, help you sort things out, I'm here. And I am accepting to meta-humans as a part of my nondiscrimination policy. But I do ask that you keep your power usage to a minimum while in session unless told to do otherwise. This is for everyone's safety."

smiles

"So, feel free to sit on the couch or whatever makes you comfortable and let that load off of your chest."

Lance hadn't come for the therapy. In truth, while he knew he wasn't sane, he just enjoyed filling his time. He'd done the same with AA (despite a continuing addiction to alcohol), NA (despite never having picked up a drug in his long, long life), Gamblers Anonymous (maintaining a weekly poker game) and the most fun,  SAA, (which he 'relapsed' with frequently). But much like walking in to Mordor, one simply did not pass up the opportunity to be psychoanalyzed.

"Please, state your name for starters. Only share what you feel comfortable sharing. You do not need to tell me if you have powers or not. If you wish to, that is fine and may help put things in context. The more you share, you the more you can get back."

"And feel free to ask me questions. I'm here for you."

My name? Lancelot. Lancelot Lacey. I'm here because I feel abused. My last girlfriend tried to kill me, and I'm afraid of getting a restraining order. She's sent several people to my apartment to collect money I 'owe' her.. it's rather unpleasant.

#5 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "Ooh, that sounds dreadful." She looks at him tenderly. "Have you any idea why she tried to kill you?"
#6 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: I have a lot of money. Second generation wealth, and my parents left me a very generous trust fund. One night, I decided to propose to her, and she started screaming about how the ring wasn't big enough. And then she tried to stab me. He gulped.
#7 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut:   Her eyebrows knit. "Oh, my. Sounds like she could use some therapy!" Laughs. "Why do you say you are 'afraid' of getting a restraining order? That does seem like it could be beneficial in your case."
#8 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Well, she's not exactly... how should I put this? He paused for a few moments She doesn't exactly pay much credence to the law.
#9 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "I see." She pauses. "So, it seems that I can do little to alleviate her side of the equation. What can I do for you? Doubtless, this situation has caused you a lot of stress and emotional upheaval."
#10 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: He pondered it for a moment. This is going to sound weird... but if you could tell me some about yourself.
#11 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "Okay." She sat forward. "What would you like to know?"
#12 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Your name. Why you chose this profession.
#13 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "I am Dr. Alexandra Steele." She thinks for a second. "As to why I chose this profession... I don't know. The human mind is just so fascinating. Getting to know people, help them become more the individual they are meant to be or wish to become can be rewarding." She smiles. "There is so little known about the mind. It's like the final frontier. And every mind is so unique. If I can use my passion to help people, well, that just seems like a worthwhile profession."
#14 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: And do you generally treat those with a death wish?
#15 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: Smiles. "Sometimes. What does "death wish" mean to you?"
#16 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: I pick fights I know I can't win. I put myself in the line of fire just for the hell of it. But mostly, at this point, I wish that after living this long, I'd finally just die. I'm old. Old enough to know that the mind has power. Old enough to know that I'm coming here by choice, not by necessity.
#17 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "So, you live on the edge, but you really long for an escape."
#18 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Release would be a better term.
#19 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "Release." She writes on notepad. "Release is defined by confinement. How do you feel you are confined?"
#20 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: He smirked and shook his head. Not so fast. I have another question. What did you have for lunch?
#21 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: With a startled expression, she looks at him sideways and smirks. "What? What did I have for lunch?" She thinks. "Let's see, I had chicken Caesar salad."
#22 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Have you ever closed your eyes, only to get minuscule little flashes of every bad deed you've ever done? Or gone to bed, only to wake up five minutes later feeling like a part of you is missing? Short of breath, cold, save for the fresh new burn you'd never seen before? It's hell. Literally, so far as I can tell.
#23 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: She looks at him seriously. A tinge of sadness is evident within her eyes. "I've had such experiences while awake, not just when asleep. And I've not only been haunted by my own deeds but those of others."
#24 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist:  A hint of emotion. In her voice as well. Now imagine that for eternity. Hence the release.
#25 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: She stares at him solemnly. "I can't imagine. Usually, I try to use sleep as a temporary escape. But it doesn't always help, and it is merely temporary." She thinks. "I wonder if personal meditation or self-hypnotism could be of any help to you? Getting control of your own mind and body can be a powerful tool. Learn how your mind works. Then you can control where your thoughts go. If "release" is impossible, it would seem an alleviation of the symptoms, at least for a short time, would be beneficial."
#26 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Doesn't that assume that I don't meditate already? Focus on my breathing, try not to control the length, in and out. Of course the kids downstairs going at it like jack rabbits doesn't help things.
#27 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "You need to find someplace quiet. Alone. I'm not sure what works for you as an individual, but what you want is to get into a different state of mind. Go into your mind, away from everything else. There is a certain brainwave frequency, quite similar to the early stages of sleep. There is an emptiness there. But it does not necessarily mean it is a frightening or even a peaceful place. There, it is what you make it. You may even no longer exist in your own consciousness. This is meditation to the point of self-hynosis. Hypnosis is very controversial and not effective on some. I have only been able to achieve it myself a couple of times and for only a brief time." She looks at him. "Does this sound like something you can do?"

@Icarusflies: "Awwww... well, hello."
(I don't really use animals for therapy in the office...)

@The Dark Huntress:
She closes her eyes and senses a mind approaching. She watches the door.
#31 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: That's going to be harder then you might think Doc. I think I might need someone to calm me down.
#32 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: "Well, that's not really my speciality. All I can offer for calming you down is some medication. And usually I reserve that for a last resort. Perhaps visiting a massage therapist or some chamomile tea?"

@The Psyentist: Tentatively opens the door and walks inside.

@The Psyentist: As I said, I have a lot of money. And very little time. This isn't me making a move on you or anything. I promise. This is me asking you to expand your services to the private sector. Or did you think you were the only one who played inside of people's minds? His gaze became rather stern as he sat up, twisting his head around to look at her
#35 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Dark Huntress: Looks up. "Well, hello there. Welcome." She motions to the couch. "You can sit if you want. Just make yourself comfortable."
#36 Edited by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: (I added such a thing to the OoC... sessions are separate and take place at different times. The only interaction between other characters is out of character and noted as such.) "How do you ask that I 'expand my services?"
#37 Posted by Mercy_ (91881 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: She gives her a slight nod and sits on the couch, positioning herself so that her back was to the wall and she had a clear line of sight on both the door and windows.

@Mr. Mercury:   (I added such a thing to the OoC... sessions are separate and take place at different times. The only interaction between other characters is out of character and noted as such. You can come in whenever you just can't interact with them while they are in session.)

@Lance Uppercut: (Haha, yes. I decided I needed to clarify. It would be cumbersome to only take one at a time on a thread.)

@The Dark Huntress: She notices her positioning. "Hello. I'm Dr. Steele. What brings you here?"

@The Dark Huntress: "Okay." She smiles. "What's your name?"

@The Psyentist: By dropping everything your ethics class taught you.
#45 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: With confusion. "Excuse me? What do you mean?"
#46 Posted by Mercy_ (91881 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Cassidy. Most people just call me Cass, though.

@The Dark Huntress: She nods. "Alright, Cass. Is there anything you would like to talk about? It doesn't need to be super deep. Let's just get to know one another. Would that be okay?"
#48 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: I've tried a lot of things. Meditation. Drinking myself in to oblivion. Meditation, hypnotism, shock therapy, All the stuff the nice doctors recommend. I need someone more aggressive.
#49 Posted by The Psyentist (19124 posts) - - Show Bio
@Lance Uppercut: She looks at him with suspicion. She feels her eyes begin to glow but snaps out of it and maintains her composure. "What do you mean? How can I help you 'aggressively?'"
#50 Posted by Lance Uppercut (22979 posts) - - Show Bio
@The Psyentist: Well you're the professional, dear. He smirked. You tell me.
