Marvel and/or DC based RPG?

So I'm wondering, why is it we don't have any RPG's where we can play with real established character but with different perspectives? or alternate U in which your character has the things' abilities, but he's your own. Or use the established Marvel/dc/both universe/s but with our own manipulations built on top of the existing foundation?

I can't be the only one who thought about this, what do you guys think, all free run or established character threads from time to time?

Every now and then we'll do one. The thing is, most of the time, RPGs that don't have something to do with our OCs (original characters) don't really catch on. I've been in discussions for a Firefly RPG (twice), Andy's hosted two DA RPGs that both stalled, I've been in talks for a Supernatural/Charmed/Buffy RPG, a Final Fantasy RPG...they all have a tendency of falling through. I do remember the Gotham High thread we had and that was bunches of fun, but actual established character full blown RPGs tend to die out or never get started.

@Mercy_: well... that sucks. Has anybody tried to add some freedom to it instead of locking in what the characters can do? I am def considering, with some help, to open a free run/Playable NPC game, in which the three are mashed onto each other making a sort of amalgam verse. Maybe add elements of image into the mix for the walking dead, invincible, spawn, and the goon. A game that has a mix of comedic, ninjan, military, villian and hero types in one game. playing as either a self made character, an amalgam character that has the abilities of either an npc and an original or NPC and another NPC. this way you could be a fantastic four member who subs for the jla, or something anyways.

I personally was thinking about having an RP where characters would go to the moon to meet some inhumans, it was back when i was just starting out, but i never went with it. Still thinking about getting more experience though tbh.

Same, just to get my writing skills up, not happy with it yet. But I want to gauge peoples response to the idea before I make it and put alot of thought in for no reason. I want to do one where an idea like yours would be more of a side-note in a grand scheme than the main event. just a straight-up mashup, with me and certain folks I trust taking NPC roles.

@Surkit:Well as far as i know, (and i don't know much about this.) There was a looney toon RP that i believe was relatively well recieved, though i'm not sure. There was also a Digimon rp that seemed like it was gonna be good, but that one just didn't start up. Honestly, i think everything Mercy has said is accurate, it's hard to get people interested in something like that. I think it could be well done as well, people putting there own twist on characters, but it would just be hard to get together and started up.

@Urbs: Hm I hear what your both saying. I think if I can get a respected vet to help out or join in, it'll put the grease on the wheel. It's a noob making a thread that makes people shaky I think. But I'm talking about spending a couple weeks getting it together, plot lining it, and just making it as epic as I can while leaving plenty of room for open creativity. Integrating the enture maps of both dc and marvel in crazy ways as well as mashing teams, like putting doom patrol in a mashup with the defenders or FF. its allin the air but I have a lot of interesting ideas. The real problem is getting people to know I'll be there to take care of it

If you get investors before hand (both vets and noobs) i think it could definetely pull off the ground. But i would tell them of the idea first, and not write the OOC until later on. Just know that whenever, or if ever, you start it up, i got your back.

@Urbs: I don't have any doubt I'll do it, it'll just take time to get together and figure out. little bit of studying the back threads to see what made them so good.

and thanks man, appreciate it :)

@nonfiction91: We did this once and we also mixed in comicvine characters as well....Thats where the problems started, several well known DC and Marvel Characters started to die...then a lot started to die! there was an Arkham outbreak RP and a cross over one! One of my characters cut of Guy Gardners hand and broke one of Hawk Girls wings and then went on to kick the snot out of Arsenal before getting into a stale mate with Nightwing, all before making Superman kill him ( I will admit this may sound over the top, but the way it was done my Character was half dead by the end of it all). Some people where just offing well known characters cause they could.....

I think Wolverine died like 12 times in that RP, but it was very early on in the vine life! People have intergrated Characters into theirs, but over all DC/Marvel rps don't really work! there was another one that was great we had Lex and Joker, batman and so on, but it just died.

@nonfiction91: I don't think that would be such a good idea. I can see people having their characters randomly defeat or kill powerful established comic book characters e.g Thor just to make their own character look good. There's also the risk of people not writing certain characters properly.

@Olympian_Champion: those rps sound...epic! People keep telling me they don't catch on but it seems like the ones that do for a short while get intense.

If I do it I want to make it a real challenge. I'm talking going to the battles board and all that and doing the specifics of each NPC and laying it out. Now that I think about it I only will really do it if we decide on those character sheets, so I can compare who's best against who to avoid simple deaths. and there will be no killing of wolverine if I have a say :P

Oh and as far as righting known characters correctly that's an honest breeze for me.

@nonfiction91: Well I don' think it'll be a good idea to have established comic book characters appear too much in RPGs. If they do, then I think it shouldn't be canon.

@Olympian_Champion: nah, it'lll be more reshaping than being defined into. I'm thinking an amalgam verse, with a select few NPC's and mainly NPC villians will be the most heard of, and when I write them in it'll be more of a super death trap situation than a, kill somebody, run, get caught, fight type of thing. this is just an idea right now though

@nonfiction91: I see.
