@lady_liberty: This thing was created by the dark reflection of the abstract of life. It is life, corrupt, unending, compounded. Everything the Thoughtsin does follows the purpose of life, to spread, to adapt, to reproduce. It believes it is doing good by bringing all life under one mind. A compound mind where all will be free from envy, from want, from need, from petty concerns such as beauty and materialism, from emotions such as hate and love.
A timeless chorus of flesh, and bone, and thought. One that sought and destroyed the Universe's greatest civilization, to show the power of unity. It doesn't get why it's so hated, why others cling so tightly to their own systems, or even why other hive minds do not become one with the Malpsyche Primus and join their choruses. It tried to show the bankruptcy of the old system by driving the Masari into building the rings, but it is confused about why they are still venerated and it is villified.
It is at once, virtually all knowing and comprehending, and yet very naive. And yet, it realizes that whereas the Masari sought to study it, to apply the Jinkoro's vaccine to the final samples of it, the Hierarchy will quite gladly burn it away, and so those who oppose the Hierarchy have their uses. Uses that will only go so far for as long as it needs to find a way to reach for the stars and spread once again.
