◆ The Location ◆
Located in the center-most part of East Gothic lies the recently renovated and renamed Malory's Apartment building, formerly also known as 'Jeffries-Bogdanevich Apartments' or 'The Slavhouse'.
"The building was constructed in the early days of Gothic City by the first settlers, resulting in the beautiful blend of Georigian and Federal architecture. Since the time of it's construction the building suffered numerous problems (Such as being partially destroyed by Professor Superior in 1987.) and thus changed owners frequently until inevitably falling into the hands of the Russian Mafia, who didn't waste time turning it partially into a crackhouse and extorting money from it's other inhabitants whenever they felt like it. The major turn to good happened just recently when a young man 'bought off' the building from the gangsters and renovated it on his own expenses."
The dwelling offers five floors and access to the community-shared roof through the stairway, but also fire escapes perched on the front and back sides of the complex. However, the bottom-most floor is dedicated to all manner of shops which surround the apartment entrance. There is also a basement irish bar accessible from the street.
◆ The Community ◆
Regarding the rest of the living space: There are sixteen seperate apartments in the remaining four upper floors. Six of those are larger, suited for multi-member families.
The community inhabiting the building is living and breathing, it revives the long forgotten neighbourly relationships unseen in the rest of Gothic City. The reigning atmosphere is that of friendship and loyality, as if all occupants grew up together. They're more than willing to help a new tenant move in or help with malfunctioning tech.
Don't worry if you can't pay the rent. The landlord is an understanding dude. If you seek to rent an apartment stop by his place, the rent and conditions of the deal can be negotiated.
The Roof
The communal roof area plays a crucial role in the lives of the tenants. It is a shared space, furnished and maintained (not mandatorily) by everyone. The tenants come up in their free times to chat with the others, relax, even sunbathe if the weather's right and simply have a good time.
Once every month, usually off the work days, the whole community tends to gather here and - put simply - socialize. No matter the weather, be it snowing or raining, the tenants gather on the roof and bring home-made food and drinks and spend the rest of the day BBQ-ing and chatting.
◆ The Security ◆
Not speaking of the measures set up in the individual apartments, building's entrances and shops are locked during night time (but relatives can still be buzzed in) and also installed with alarms to offer protection from burglars while the building itself is insured for a "f*&k ton" of money in order to provide best protection and living conditions for the tenants. Should something catastrophic happen to the structure, it will be repaired as soon as possible.
Regarding actual intrusion or assault on one of the tenants the response is usually quite simple: The landlord steps in and whoops some malevolent a**. However, the neighbors aren't entirely cowardly either and will step in if they see injustice happening, armed with whatever comes under their hands.
To maintain top-notch security, the alleyways surrounding Malory's are fenced off providing safe playground for children and parking place for parents.
Due to the past experiences the crooks tend to avoid the building altogether, but the Russian Mafia still keeps an eye on the dwelling and it's community.
Apartments & Shops
◆ Hawkins' Apartment // Landlords ◆
The humble residence of the landlord is located in the upper-most floor, on the far left. Providing view and entry into the street and into the alleyways.
The apartment is the smallest of them all, and as such James has little space to work with which is resolved by smart and compact furnishings.
It offers a master bedroom with equipment, bathroom with a toilet and a stocked medical cabinet, a homely living room/work area with a lockable skylight and finally a modern kitchen for his culinary endeavors.
The skylight offers a unique entrypoint onto the roof and as such often caters the music during the community gatherings.
Security-wise, all entrances into the apartment are protected by silent alarms also linked to his alarm clock. However, the building's security hub is partially linked in here to warn Jim of any unwanted visitors in the building.
◆ MacLaren's Pub ◆
