I'm not actually sure! But alt universes often are powered by handwaveium so the story can get told without getting bogged down in the million other details.

Well technically no ones dead. This rpg is what was supposed to happen at the end of Know Evil2, which Maya and Clara were supposed to alter reality bringing them to this alternate future. In this future, you guys would've either been depowered by Maya or simply mind rapped by Clara. But that didn't happen.
