Prologue:

The forces of good and evil have waged war since before the quantifiable concept of time. And continue to do so to this day. Locked in a monumental struggle that will forever shape the World, secretly chronicled in clandestine texts and ancient scrolls housed in dedicated dogmatic religious sects throughout the World. A balance that has shifted back and forth forcing each side to take extreme measures in hopes of one day ending the conflict. Supernatural weapons that were brought forth and seemingly lost as their masters fell in the midst of battle. Consumed by the unforgiving sands of time relegated to myth and legend to all but the oldest of knowledgeable clerics who had tirelessly exhausted every conceivable means of locating these missing artifacts and weapons. Some, but by no means all, had been gathered throughout the centuries by the Vatican's most elite order, the Knights Templar. However fearing the widespread curroption manifesting itself within the inner circle of the Church, the Templar Knights became the unofficial shepherds of the weapons. A move that would later lead to their eventual annihilation. And thus a new order was created. An order birthed through science and paranormal occultism, endowing carefully selected individuals with unimaginable powers and abilities. Perennial assegia carved from faith for the sole purpose of forming the Church's underground society of theistic warriors known as, the Vatican Assassins.

- Now -

Warmth from the fire resonated around the carefully situated reading room currently occupied by the Cajun assassin, Jean Luc LeBeau. An entire section of his library lay sprawled out across his desk alongside the freshly read document with a broken Illuminati seal that had kept its contents safe from unwarranted eyes. Its coded messages having easily been deciphered with minimal effort though its correspondence had proven much harder to interpret.

Dear Mr. LeBeau:

The rod and the staff have fallen and our darkest hour is upon us. Although thee is one of unrepentant godlessness, we must implore your immediate service for without it, there is no hope. The gifts of the Zakon iluminatów will be bestowed upon thee upon acceptance of this bargain. We know of your desire to reclaim France, we can help. But first you must dedicate a full year of devoted service. On the island of Isola Bela you well serve as our newest Vatican Assassin while adorning the trappings of a traditional priest. You will familiarize yourself with our teachings and offer daily prayer. But no one can ever know of your true mission. Track down and find the missing artifacts of the Forgotten War, house them beneath the cathedral for safe keeping until such time as we are able to relieve you of their burden. Inside this envelop you shall find the necessary proclivities to start you on your journey. Remember Mr. LeBeau, you may not believe in God, but the Devil surely believes in you.

Isola Bela:

Majestically planted Cyprus trees consume much of this small fishing village on the lake of Maggiore. This magnificent island is home to an exotic assortment of wild life coupled with the breathtaking palazzo of the House of Borromeo.

- The Garden -

Masterpieces of architectural genius line the outer ring of this tribute to social nobility. Hand trimmed shrubs with high level terraces come together in perfect harmony painting one of the islands most notable features.

La Chiesa di Nightswatch:

Secretly commissioned during an apocalyptic war between fallen angels, the La Chiesa di Nightswatch is both a house of salvation as well as the home of the Vatican Assassin of his or her time. Secret passages and catacombs underline its secretive nature and true purpose. The church itself is filled with symbolic designs hiding in plain site amongst its angelic paintings. Somewhat underwhelming compared to the rest of the Island, this strategic maneuver is employed to keep attention on the church to a minimal as not to expose the assassins true undertakings.

The former mad monk now known as Pontius remained secluded in the lower levels of the cathedral examining seven stone swords removed from the Terracotta Army excavation pit years earlier. Tasked with aiding the newly arrived Vatican Assassin, the Mystic Monarch had little knowledge of the man proclaimed to be a living legend. Nor did he care. Obsession of the occult was the only motivating force behind any of his dealings, specifically the missing weapons of the Forgotten War. Employing all of his supernatural abilities his job would be to locate their remains while leaving the actual retrieval up to the assassin.

Off the coast of the religious sanctum known to few outside its walls a couple of older gentlemen stood, awaiting the arrival of the speeding jet ski that sped across the ocean, leaving deep ripples in its wake. Ethan's face was laid bare for those who greeted him as he pulled into the harbor and sauntered towards them. "Ah, Mr. Starks, you arrive sooner than expected." Starks gave a toothy grin, his eyes raising to meet the gentleman's as he spoke. "Enlightenment called to me sooner than I thought. But I am eager to begin." The gentlemen nodded silently, turning away and walking towards the Mitsubishi Lancer a 100 feet away. Ethan walked with them, taking in the beauty that was the island. "The path you walk is a difficult one, you seem a bit to indifferent for me." Ethan's face remained blank. "Thank God it is not for you to decide,"

@Ethan Starks: With his legs folded overtop of one another in the traditional meditative posture, Pontius remained focus as the conflicted soul of Ethan Stark stepped foot on the island. His arrival had not been previously foreseen somewhat alarming the debonair mystical magistrate who had immediately reaching out to the Vatican Assassin through his minds eye. "Monsieur, the island has received another guest. Perhaps you'll find it prudent to conceal your face?" his levitated form of astral projection standing before the hooded clergy. "If you require my services I shall be in my study. The young man's spirit is restless, be forewarned."

#31 Posted by Ethan Starks (2815 posts) - - Show Bio

@Matriix: It was not long before Ethan stood before one of many robed, hooded figures, who did not speak until the men who had escorted Ethan dispersed. The door slammed shut on the dark, dreary room and the figure finally spoke with a saw voice that betrayed her figure. "You seek something. What is it?" Ethan smiled. "Your knowledge of our savior. I seek faith." Ethan looked into the dark void that concealed the man's face, his technology doing him no justice as he tried to discover the identity of the mysterious woman. "You do not hide yourself very well, I see beyond the veil you've placed in front of of my eyes, but do you see upon mine? It is no matter, seek out Pontius, he will help you settle in as well as advise you of what is and is not excepted inside these walls. Do well to heed his warning." Ethan extended a hand to the woman, but received no response and retracted it. "Where is this Pontius?" The woman shook her head. "He will find you." With that said Ethan exited and began to stride down the corridors, expecting a ghost to appear to him.

@Ethan Starks: Dressed in all black, a partial red cape draped over his left shoulder and two white streaks parting his carefully groomed hair, Pontius soon accompanied the young man on his exploration of the Cathedral. However he did not reveal himself to the stranger instead choosing to simply walk and observe Ethan's mannerisms. "So, you have come here in hopes of discovering faith? Many a lost soul have had the same idea, the same desire. Sadly not all are capable of achieving a higher sense of purpose. Faith can not be found my young friend.....it must be earned" his sinister smile resonating from underneath his neatly trimmed goatee.

“People don’t just vanish into thin air…” a minister replied, speaking to what apparently seemed like nothing. His conversation was an awkward one, but in essence he happened to be speaking to the Black Cardinal, his former apprentice.

“You’re right master, people don’t vanish into thin air…I’m not people though” she responded sitting with her legs folded and hands relaxed in her chair. “Then where are you, last I saw you were the mistress of a gruesome fortress in New Jersey; then it was all gone”

The old man’s wrinkles worried for his prized apprentice; though he knew the sins that weighed her shoulders; he couldn’t dismiss that she was once an innocent and sane being. “I realized my presence in the mortal affairs was no longer needed; I took my talents to south beach” she said, with a chuckle.

“Why can I see you?” he asked, running his hands through his platinum white hair. “Everyone who knows me personally can see me when I’m present” she responded slowly turning a pin-wheel. “Come back to us…the world still needs heroes.” He said, handing her a bible.

“That it does, but symbols rule this world, neither creeds nor laws”. She responded, slowly scanning over the Gutenberg bible. “Where is he?” She asked, still with her eyes focused on the pages of the bible.

“His location is everywhere, yet you will never see him; he is being tempted by the devil” the minister said, slowly muttering a Hail Mary. “I thought I killed her?” Z said, standing up to part. “Much like you my child, the devil wears a many dress”.

He taught her everything she knew, which meant he was responsible, her sins where his sins; at the end of his life; he would pray the lord hath mercy on her soul.

His hair had grown uncharacteristically long, slightly below the ears forcing the occasional tuck. His own customized silver rosary beads were continually wrapped around his left hand no matter the occasion. Having committed to a clandestine formation of articles pertaining to the ways of the Vatican Assassin, the former LoS leader had stowed away his blade for a duration no less then one year. Housed in a freshly carved cedar crate stashed beneath his bed it waited for the day its master would once again let it taste the sweet nectar of death.

@Gambler: Ash stepped into up to Jean luc, he rubbed praying beads in his palmed hand and gave a graceful nod to his former master assassin. "Jean luc, you seem...At ease.." His tone was surreal, fitting into this place like a glove.

@Ash_Walmer: Jean glanced back noticing another new arrival to the island. Several had come and gone since his initial pilgrimage but he recognized this one from his days with the League of Assassins. "Welcome brother" tilting his head slightly to the side as he witnessed the fury fingered killer rubbing his own prayer beads. "Tell me, do you consider yourself a.....creature of faith?" The LeBeau Legacy taking the opportunity to gain some inside perspective of a former teammate he had known little about.

@Gambler: "Back at home...We had a deities of worship, presumed to cooperate with eachother to create the first of our species.." Ash looked down at the beads and smiled as each one symbolized one of the creators. "I..Try not to let anyone see this side of me, myself being a warrior of ferocity I need to keep this side of me attained, or I will lose my drive for battle". Ash rubbed the beads a bit more intensity as he thought of battle.

@Ash_Walmer: Although the similar, the Radical Raccoon's beads were significantly more complex in their representation. "Understandable" the assassin responded. Having uncovered the inner conflict the death dealing mammal concealed from his enemies, Jean smiled. Already working through several variations of ways to exploit such knowledge should he ever find himself paired against the skilled killer. Yet his recently accepted path granted him a sense of respect for his potential foe, thus offering up a piece of wisdom that had previously been handed down to him, "You know, your convictions do not make you less of a warrior, tis dee opposite mon ami. A true warrior fears nothing, including the allowance of his faith to fuel his righteous rage in battle. Tis what will eventually allow you to control any fight, as opposed to any fight controlling you. But I am not here to preach to you my friend. We all walk a different path."

@Gambler: Ash smiled and gave a bow as he placed both of his hands together and closed his eyes. "You speak wise words friend" Ash found it strange how familiar the wise man's accent was, but was in such a meditative state that he made no note of it. "Tell me, how long have you been on this island? Do you reside here? Or just visit here for periods of time like myself?" Ash raised his brow casually.

#50 Posted by Owen_Porter (83295 posts) - - Show Bio

@Ash_Walmer: Returning the sign of respect with his own bow while processing the racoons questions, Jean offered a humble reply, "I've been here awhile, but I am simply a...caretaker of sorts."
