@joygirl: Tinker

Or how about as other, a combination of your first and second in this category. Like a bounty hunter that also is a bit of a Silent or a Tinker?

Interesting idea. I'll wait for a few more votes and see if it gets any more weight.

You are an EX-SILENT BOUNTY HUNTER.

--------------------------------------

Right, now it's starting to come back. You can't see because you, well... can't see. You clap a hand gently across the empty pits where your eyes once were, and focus for a long moment. While the magic within you may not be as strong as that of a mage, or even a fully-trained Silent, you have enough in you to compensate for the loss of your eyes – a bleakly-colored, magical map begins to stretch out ahead of you, creating the image of your living room in your mind. Not quite real sight... but close enough.

You went to a Silence Camp at the age of twenty, barely a girl for the slowly-developing elanu. After you sacrificed your sight and began to learn the methods of the ancient clan of sister-monks known as the Silent, the weight of their restrictions began to strangle your individuality. Purely-carnivorous diet. No mind-influencing substances. Inability to say an unkind word to, or about, another. Inability to see your family.

You rebelled before your training was complete, but it was worth it. You hit the streets and continued your training throughout the post-war earth, a land still rich with strife and poverty. It was here that you learned that things always needed to be taken care of, and you were possessed of the skills to take care of them. Now, almost twenty years have passed since you left the Silence Camp, and you are a respected bounty hunter within the fallout-free integropolis known as Calhana. As a result, you live from job to job, not paycheck to paycheck. You aren't late for a damn thing.

Your head's still swimming, however. You wonder what you should do now that you're on your feet.

A. Go to the Hunter's Lodge beneath the city and see if you can find a job.

B. Relax and explore your house.

C. Step out into the city and refresh your memory.

D. Other (Please Specify).

Well, A seems to be fairly unanimous so far, so I'll save everyone a lot of time and just post the next bit now.

----------------------------

You grumble and stagger towards the kitchen, almost tripping an empty energy-drink can that your radar nearly missed. One pale, delicate, blue-tinged hand clasps around the handle of your retemperature, flinging the door open and gazing in. The shelves are essentially empty, reminding you that you haven't actually worked a job in at least a month, after you received a serious wound to your shoulder after trying to take in an elven noble who'd been practicing xenomancy. Come to think about it, you never even got a paycheck for that job.

I'll bag him next time, you think idly as you pull a cold beer from the retemp, cracking the top and taking a long guzzle. You'd prefer water, but after the party last night, this seems to be the only thing left in the house that you actually have, and you're essentially broke.

With rent coming up in two days.

Bleh.

Not much to do besides drag your lazy ass out of the house and head to the Hunter's Lodge. It'll be a bit of a trip to get there, as the place is under the city (and subsequently, the radar), but you need to work a job if you're gonna even try to pay your bills. You wander to the closet, still a bit disoriented from having just woken up, and paw through clothes and overcoats for your hunting gear. The 'good stuff' is mostly hidden in the back (in the case that someone catches on and your home is raided), but it only takes a few minutes for you to gather up your stuff. Shockdarts, sidearm, manhunters, a few incendiary kits. All you'll need for a basic job – if you need something else, you can always come back.

You finally step outside of your apartment. Despite the clouds, the what little sunlight shines through is magically enhanced – your radar spikes out when you get into the open, seeming to 'lag' for a brief moment before mapping out the significantly larger, brighter area. You can see a bit better now than you could inside, which reminds you that you have another need for cash: you were going to buy a mapping-enhancer and sharpen the lighting and angles within your own apartment. Pricey, but affordable, and certainly worth not stumbling around your own home.

It's noon, but the integropolis isn't really bustling right now. Everyone who isn't still at home has already to gotten to lunch, so the streets are clear enough. You glance over to your Vaporbike, wondering if you should risk the chance of getting a ticket for compromised eyesight. Driving by magical-radar is still not completely legal, though elanu activists are working hard towards proving that they are equally competent to drive as those with keen eyes or cybertronics.

A. Take the Vaporbike to the Hunter's Lodge. You'll get there faster but may get in trouble.

B. Walk. It'll take longer – higher chance of an extraneous encounter.

C. Actually, screw it – go back inside.

D. Other.

It's probably better not to risk it. Not only are you legally blind, you're still hungover, and both your rep and bank account make you leery to get a ticket. You crack your neck idly and shift your crimson blindfold across your eyes, flattening out the edges so that they don't rub against your skin.

You start walking, getting some relatively fresh air and exposing your senses to the light of day. Your mapping can just barely detect the hexagonal fence that networks across the sky, erected by the IPA and invisible to the naked eye. You don't complain though – with even the largest cities still feeling the effects of the war, the Invasion Prevention Act is nothing anyone but a fool would oppose.

You try to keep from staggering too badly and garnering unwanted attention. With rage-junkies in the streets, vendroling nomads roaming from town to town and tending to bring unwanted attention with them, and the various sects and cults that had all arisen after the Vendroll came, even Calhana isn't completely safe for a lone woman. Even one of your skills.

There are a lot of stops on the way to the Hunter's Lodge, and a few specific places that you notice. One is Silhouette, a strip club with a few shady rumors circulating around it – occultism, xenomancy, fallout-abuse, that kind of crap. Another is a weapon shop that is much closer to the Lodge itself, already on a lower level of the city – under the radar of patrollers and sentries alike. Even without any cash on your person, it may be worth taking a look and seeing what trouble you can find.

Do you get distracted, or do you keep moving?

A. Keep moving towards the Hunter's Lodge – you can do all of this stuff after you get a job and get paid.

B. Go to Silhouette – it might be nice to relax, even if the place is a little gloomy. You may also be able to find some freelance work.

C. Go to Garandin's, the weapon shop. It's underground, so who knows what could happen. Maybe you can strike a deal to get some new gear in exchange for a quick job.

D. Other (please specify).

Remember that your magical mapping essentially does allow you to see. You have issues with color and sometimes get "lag" but you can see what's happening around you. Gonna wait for a few more votes.

You know what? You don't work on a strict schedule, even when you should. There's nothing wrong with a little distraction, and after technically failing your last mission, you consider the possibility that getting some new gear could be... wise. After all, with the IPA and other commercial organizations doing their best to weaponize both small-arms and large-arms tech, new weapon lines seem to be coming out daily. Magic is out, and despite the fact that you still use it on a daily basis (both with mapping, and to increase your physical power), you know that the real power right now is in weaponry.

You tap the heel of one of your boots on the pavement, popping out a small wheel and rolling casually around a corner, trying not to draw attention to yourself as you slither down a small alley that leads to a ramp. The walls are grimy and covered with neon graffiti of various kinds – vendroling way-marks, troggon'esh gang tags, and even some more articulate elven runes. The latter amuse you – the elves consider themselves the best at everything, sometimes accurately, but their flowing, elegant script makes you think they may be missing the point of vandalism.

Things start to move lower and lower as you slide into the bottom level of Calhana. Your mapping lags briefly as you adjust to the dark, still able to see, just... a bit more slowly. You drop your pace and settle back into a casual walk. The Hunter's Lodge is a still a couple blocks ahead of you, but you aren't headed there – you're headed to Garandin's, a not-strictly-legal arms shop. The place is small and run-down, more heavily tagged than the alleyway you went through, with no small amount of pockmarks from bulletholes.

Inside, the place is a bit different. Still small, but you remember why you decided to check it out – the place is loaded with new equipment and weaponry, mostly rifles, but with a few smaller items as well that may be more your style. Behind the counter is a bored-looking dwarf with a floppy mohawk and bronze-colored skin that's been marked with tiny, tunic tattoos, vastly different from the black, sweeping markings that cover your own body. The man looks up at you and stops gnawing whatever it is he has in his mouth. “Can I help you with somethin'?”

A. Try to use your influence as a bounty hunter to coerce him into giving you a few new weapons.

B. Offer to do a job for him in exchange for some new stuff.

C. Try to trick him into leaving so that you can steal some new stuff.

D. Other (please specify).

(Note: "Other" options have greater weight and allow more flexibility.)
