Name: Ryden

Alias: Prophet.

Height: 6'2

Weight: 225

Background:

At a young age Ryden was an outcast. He wasn’t bullied or abused, but he was simply there. He had no friends, and as for family there was his grandmother, but she seemed to be only there for a little bit longer. She was old, and her heart seemed to be giving out on her. They moved to a little town called Veritas, so his grandmother could be more closely monitored, while still taking care of Ryden.

Ryden was still nobody in this small town, and just like in other towns, he spend most of his time alone wandering after school. Veritas was an old worn down town, it had many places for Ryden to roam. One day he decided to go through a real deserted part of the small town, the plants around this area were dead. Animals would stop in their tracks, and they would not dare cross into this part of the land. Ryden on the other hand, saw this as another adventure around this small town.

Ryden roamed freely through this land examining the crispy dead leaves. Animals around the area began to howl and make disgruntled noises as if to warn Ryden away from this god forsaken place. Ryden still carried on, he looked all around him at this unbelievable scene as he walked through it. As he took his next step the ground beneath him fell apart and Ryden fell. The dust began to settle and Ryden found himself facing what seemed to be a hidden library or headquarters for something. He roamed through this secret place as if it was his own. He grabbed several books and scrolls, and he stuffed them into his own backpack.

He rushed home, into his room, and he threw the scrolls onto his bed. He opened one scroll, and the words were some other language. Ryden had realized like a mindless drone, he had just grabbed the things from the shelf. He hadn’t checked them, something had come over him that made him grab them, and take them home. Ryden opened scroll after scroll, book after book, and the strange language was inside all of them. He tried reading it, but to no avail. For a moment, he just stared blankly at the pages before him. The scribble began to morph, words began to move around, and the pages turned to the very front of the book. It was like the book was demanding to be read. Ryden began reading mindlessly. Before he knew it, he had gone back several times to the hidden place, and he had read them over and over.

The books and scrolls contained spells, spells of dark magic. They discussed absorbing life from other living beings, and resurrecting dead things, things like telekinesis, teleportation, and other countless things. The things that would scare people if they knew this existed, but Ryden was amazed. It was all enticing to him. He never dared cast a spell or so he promised himself.

That was until he noticed his grandmother, (the only person to ever really love Ryden, and the only person Ryden fully loved,) began to get significantly worst. She seemed to be on her death bed, and Ryden couldn’t take seeing her like this, much less the thought of her gone forever. He searched through the books to find a way to save her. Life transferring seemed the best at the moment, or the one that caught Ryden’s eye first. He began with small things like flowers and plants. As his grandmother was asleep, he would begin reciting the spells, and over time she would get better.

Ryden soon realized small plants weren’t doing as great as before, it seemed each time his grandmother would need more and more life. Small plants would be of no avail. He began finding small rodents, and hiding them in his bag as he was in her room. This too would run its course. Eventually his grandmother would be transferred to a hospital. She was weak, and Ryden was unstable about the thought of being truly alone. The doctors and nurses reassured him, they were doing the best they could. Ryden replied, “IT’S NOT ENOUGH!!!” At this time, Ryden had cast the spell so much that even the thought would begin the casting. It was just that, Ryden began to try absorbing the life from the doctors and nurses in his Grandmother’s room. They slowly began to age, and his grandmother seemed to be getting better. His grandmother now able to physically move, grabbed Ryden, and told him, “I Love You Ryden, but it’s my time.” As if his grandmother had known all this time. Ryden had been so consumed by the all of it the spells, the books, that his grandmother had noticed he was different.

Ryden freed the doctors and nurses, and as they were passed out from the events, he began to say his goodbyes to his grandmother. He finished what information that was left of the hidden library, and like a ship setting off to its next destination, Ryden set off to find out more about this Dark Magic. He began to walk, and his mind guided him.

This was about 10 years ago....

Powers & Abilities:

  •  Necromancy, as he is able to reanimate the dead into his service as he deems fit. This can be skeletons or even recent corpses.
  •  Telekinesis. Ryden is able to move things mentally, an aura surrounds the object as it moves and shifts.
    • This can even result in flight, if Ryden feels the need.
  •  Life-Force Absorption. Ryden is well experienced in this casting. He may do this when harmed or injured.
  •  Teleportation. The distance of teleportation determines how long Ryden must concentrate. A couple of feet could be a simple thought, but to teleport more of a distance, might need proper recitation of a spell.
  •  Mind control. For Ryden to be able to do this, the person must be mentally unstable, whether it be addiction, stress, or something else.
  •  Ryden has learned how to defend himself physically as well. Close combat is something he doesn’t prefer, but he can carry himself well in those situations.
