Random Facts should stay unlocked. As should Hiatus and CV Cards. The do you want to RPG/Battle threads serve purposes, and should remain open as well.

@lady_liberty: If the battle thread is locked, I'm sure that'd be a detriment to the RP world >_> I've developed so many things due to that thread lol

@antonia: @victorgrey: @xenon_: We need to go all the way with this. Its only a month if it doesn't work out but we need to BE SURE so we can move on, either way. That means we have to eliminate the problem, not compress the problem into a smaller number of threads.

@whisper_: I love battles thread but if we're going to do this we need to do it all the way. After a month passes maybe we could have another discussion and reopen some threads that weren't that harmful. But for the purpose of finding out if it helps RPG or not so we can finally move on from this seemingly endless discussion we need to lock all of them. Otherwise this will keep popping up because we won't really be sure.

A month isn't that long of a time anyway. There's not a thread on this site we can't do without for thirty days.

For fairness we should do a community vote, not a poll (that alts can cheat), an actual old fashioned vote with your name and everything. Won't be fair to force this if the masses don't want it.

No, but seriously, we should really go ahead with this instead of talking about it now and then doing nothing. I'm all for it.

@_sparrow_: This is the exact opposite of that. He wanted to do something that could never be reversed and would last forever and only get a single RPG out of it. [But hey, he was driving his events! I can't fault him for that.]

I want to do something that can be reversed, might only last a thirty days, and may help everyone on the entire section for years.

I think we should just do it now. Community votes take forever and we've already argued about this for a year. Lets be done with it. Thirty days and one way or another we'll have settled it.

I don't want to be here, having this same argument a year from now and that's a very real possibility if we go for a community vote.

I'd be comfortable seeing where the 30-day experiment leads us if the CoE can agree on it. I think the three of you have diverse enough opinions that it would be a rational decision.

I rembwr Xenon’s Academy for Mutants

My very, very first 'longpost' RPG with Brynhild.

Walking into the LoS the very first time with Kratesis. Massive, instant hype. Aside from Hawkshade that was the only time I've ever been "over" straight out of the gate like that.

I remember the first time I RPGed with every single active big name and had no idea that they were big names.

Ravek went through a lot, put in a lot of hard work to train Arturia for combat. She still went "...I'd rather other people do this for me" and never fought...until Kratesis. Her first fight, my first fight, and we're going up against the most dangerous character and writer of the era.

We impressed so much that we passed an entrance exam no one even knew was happening! LL started to help, refined me a lot in those days. And I still haven't managed to work teleporting or portals into my powersets since then, even though I had some really neat uses for them when I was writing her.

I remember when I wasn't hated.

Oh wait.

I remember the era of strong spontaneity, where there wasn't so much left to planning. Where, as opposed to dropping a PM and talking about interacting every time, you might just drop a post in a thread or few and see if you got any takers. Things could take wild turns and it was very exciting, and lots of interesting things still came out of it.

Granted, sometimes it could lead to conflicts if someone was, say, bad at reading a situation. For example, if two friends are having a deeply personal meeting about something really big and important for progressing a certain narrative, it may not be the appropriate time for Mr. Joker to start shooting up the restaurant they're in, and the socially inept person may not realise that. It may be fine, or it may not be. But more often than not, with standard interactions, there was a more-or-less complete openness that was really interesting to see.

I also remember (one of the many times) when people started talking about a code to indicate, when making a first post in a thread, whether it was a standalone, open for response, or they were waiting for someone (now we can just tag users).

Holy cow! Totally You couldn't always just tag anybody on the site for anything. There was a time before "@" was an actual function, where in order to directly reply to someone, you'd have to find their name in whatever thread you were in that you wanted to reply in. And if they hadn't commented in that thread, you were out of luck.

It was such a big deal when the "call-out" feature was rolled out, because it seemed like it should've been there from the start, and now it just feels so natural that I forgot it wasn't always with us.

@rosso: Oh man, yeah.

I remember when they first rolled out the mobile site for premium members and there were so many issues. If there was a user in a PM who had an apostrophe in their username, it broke the PM and nobody would be able to reply.

@tessa_callahan: I still hate mobile. For the most part, I use that purely for reading and shooting quick responses (like a sentence or a few quick ones).

@rosso: Yup same, but that's also because I have some serious wrist issues so writing long messages on a phone is pretty much agony.

@hawkshade: I actually vaguely remember reading that.

I remember a super speed punch that was the first time I'd ever seen someone take into account the environmental impact just from moving really fast. And afterwards more people started doing it or otherwise making reasons for their super speed characters to not do that. [Before that it was actually quite common to see super speed without an accompanying negating force.]

@rosso: Yeah I was super into powerhouses back then. I really didn't care about street levelers at all, just powerhouses and I did a lot of thinking about the physics behind them and how incoherent super-strength is at a certain point and so forth.
