Fons Honorum
It was this that lifted the Stane family from mediocre squire wages, beyond knighthood, and into a righteous nobility of their own. some geenrations ago the family elder was a jester as well as village cryer. He would announce the news of the Nobleman of his time with such haste it was exagerated he was crying a mile away before the statement was even finished being uttered.
In time this reputation of incredible haste garnered notice from a Knight, Sir Rockstehn, who was well know for his prowess in fighting and knew his squire would have to have an equal reputation were his aspirations of owning the largest land holdings in the kingdom to be made into a reality.
Ronald Stane went from clown, to cryer, to squire in a few short years. His status rise was impressive for a man in his beginning position. Especially when he was a rarity of a man not ambitious, but proud filled with any requirements asked of himself. If you had asked Ronald Stane to shovel shit for a living, he would do so with a hop and a wink.
For ten years Ronald followed Rockstehn into battle, into tournaments, into taverns. Handing him his blades, dressing his armor, dragging him to his inn room to sleep off an ale. Until one day in one of those Inns, an assassin followed. Weilding the golden blade of rockstehn, Stane fought with the memory of thousands of battles of his knight and decimated his opponent, who apparently was wanted for the murder of several other nobleman, in fact it was his mark.
Rockstehn was speechless. An honorable man himself both in lineage and nature, he admitted truthfully the blade was his own, but not the hand that swung it, but his squire. From there by the Knight and unanimously agreed by the families of the slain, Fons Honorum was imparted meaning that Stane would be risen to knighthood, and by extension his kin and offspring would be recognized of and as noble blood.
After his title was given Ronald left work with Rockstehn who understood and began building on the land he was sanctioned. Peasants called him 'the poor man's choice' For he was generous, understanding, and just.
In fact this reputation spawned him a following. Three medium sized villages almost by themselves sprouted around his Castle in a cult like following of displaced and unsettled peoples. The house Of Stane domain was then after well known as a land of Opportunity to those who would persevere.
