Prelude - Upbringing

Jason McGrath was born to Olivia McGrath and an unknown man, in Toronto, Ontario Canada, during the time of 1992. His father left shortly after he was born, though this fact would never quite go on to affect Jason later on in his life. Unlike many, he found himself most fortunately born into a family of great affluence, and unbeknownst to him till the years of his adolescence, his DNA was underlined with a unique array of mutant genes that would continue to expand and gift him as he grew. His younger sister, Sarah McGrath, was born approximately four years after him, presumably a love child. With the birth of his younger sister, Jason would find himself distracted from such an odd change in his welcoming, innocent merriment of a largely better one.

Over the course of his younger life, Jason had developed an almost innate affinity to somewhat unusually and exciting escapades, his inherently impressive physiological capabilities a definite boon to these seeming "adventures", as he would dub them. Perhaps certain traits picked up throughout his childhood and adolescence proved a tad... troublesome. It certainly didn't help that his sister, whom greatly looked up to him and whom he possessed an inseparable bond with, began to accompany and aid his little escapades. It got them both into spots of trouble at times, but as Jason would say, it was "all in good fun". Regardless, the two of them lived largely untroubled, invaluably wealthy lives, even past the point where they were both informed of their intrinsic mutant genetics inherited from their father. After a family expedition that inevitably lead to Jason discovering the artifact that gifted him with his immortality, his mother decided it best to inform him and his sister of their genes.

It put them not in disarray, but it opened their minds to the risk of their heritage out in the world. Even then, the uprising of mutant genes was not a popular prospect. Life went on, albeit somewhat differentiated from their previous lives due to the knowledge of their growing abilities, abilities they would naturally go on to secretly utilize, perhaps eventually even master. Eventually, at the age of 17, gifted with a sum of money provided from his family's wealth, he left home, his next visit to his mother and sister coming but a year later.

The Sunken Expedition

But a year later, at the young adult age of 18, Jason would return home to surprise both his mother and sister. His educational findings and further aggrandizement of his growing, inherit mutant capabilities proving a source of great interest to both relatives, particularly to his sister, who's telepathic powers were beginning to naturally expand to even greater heights then before. He'd missed them both beyond anything, and his often longing to see them once more proved difficult due to having kept rather busy with things in his time away. In celebratory action of his temporary, awaited return to his home and family, a brief, two week long yachting expedition across the seas was rather easily put into action. Whilst on it, they would visit a number of different attractions and enlighten themselves to a number cultural intrigues. As such, they would leave a few days after his return.

Soon, they sailed onward, comfortably within the confines of the expensive yacht that had been magnificently designed and sculpted in resemblance of their wealth. Having of course retained his adolescent affinity to exciting escapades, tackling this expedition and the attractions it wrought proved a most exciting prospect, especially alongside his beloved sibling, with whom he found himself impressed with regarding her growing abilities and general growth since his leaving. Alas, such things, such a prospect would meet its unfortunate demise as they sailed from their home, into uncharted waters, whilst on the course for their first attraction. The yacht veered dangerously close to a large, seemingly undocumented island, known only as Mortem Insulam. Before their course could be differentiated, the yacht came under siege by seemingly militaristic forces found on the island. The boat was torn asunder, sunk into the depths of the sea. And with it, Sarah and Olivia...

Graciously met with a brilliant stroke of luck (Or immortality, to be precise), Jason survived, washing up ashore on a floating remnant of the lost boat. Weakened, disheveled, struck with fear and grief over the passing of both his mother and sister, he soon found himself promptly surrounded and taken by the militaristic assailants. Jason would soon realize that he was very much at the mercy of a mysteriously advanced, well-trained factions of mercenary-like individuals whom utilized the vast island as their primary location of operations. Given that he had survived and endured through their initial assault on the boat, his fate was to be determined, momentarily sparing him from immediate execution. He was taken before the elusive leader of the faction, an unnamed man (Simply called "Baron" by those whom served him) with the prospect of using the faction amassing greater wealth and betterment for unknown purposes. He was imposing, and clearly capable enough to terrify each of his subordinates into utmost subservience. And in the moment of meeting Jason, he proved to be coldly disinterested in his survival and capture, callously ordering his execution.

They gunned him down... or so they thought. His immortality had saved him from the harsh embrace of death, regenerated his injuries in an instant, and the mercenaries were stunned as they witnessed it. Baron himself, momentarily stunned at this fact, forced them to undergo brief procedures to determine his species, to determine his inherit nature and what capability it was that gifted him with his regeneration. And out came the truth: Jason was a mutant, and analysis determined that Jason himself had been affected by some form of cosmic radiation, the same radiation that granted him his immortality. In the aftermath of this, Baron developed something of a better course of action. Immediately following the failed execution and discovery of his inherit genetics, he was brought before the Baron, kept restrained by power dampening binds. Baron informed Jason that rather than remaining a prisoner, he would be able to instead serve as part of the mercenary organization. However, should Jason refuse the proposition, he would instead be kept as a prisoner for their experimentation. Thus, albeit his inner loathing towards the lot of them, for what they had done to his family, he was left with little other choice. He was broken, his spirit crushed and ready to be molded, the loss of his mother and sister a heavy blow to his psyche. He accepted, and in the moment of his acceptance, he was granted the codename "Dreadpool".

Three Years

Under the faction's close observation (During the very many instances where Baron himself was away on his own journeys), Jason would be very much forced to undergo the hellish transformation into one of the world's elite, and assassin with a tremendous degree of skill and tactical capability. Three years thrust into the world of contracting and killing, where his integral genetics aided his vigorous conditioning into a pinnacle of physical perfection. The many combative styles and assassination skills needed were bled into his brain technologically, and refined upon under the tutorship of numerous instructors of martial artistry and militaristic combat. Mercifully, he was granted a form of education referring to a large variety of fields overtime, to enhance his tactical prowess and to heighten his scientific knowledge whilst away from college. Unsurprisingly, the many experiences gone through over this period of time had made a lasting imprint upon his psyche, to the point where he'd begun to lose himself, lose Jason McGrath in the place of Dreadpool, the carmine mercenary with an infamously chattering mouth. Over the course of three years, he had become one of the faction's most promising assassins, and yet, his mental unpredictability that had grown with his powers could eventually prove to be a dangerous liability. Even given his services, one day, there was the chance where his loyalty couldn't be guaranteed. He had already begun to exhibit minor signs insurrection, something that would be put to test come the next event.

The Gambit: Beginning of the End

His loyalties and capabilities would ultimately be put to fight come the third and final year of his invested service to the militaristic organization. In the case that Dreadpool rebelled against the faction, Baron held a secret countermeasure, stemming from his research into his assassin's identity and family connections. Contained, experimentally tortured, but kept alive in a darkened room beneath their main location of operations, was none other than Sarah herself. She had survived the the expedition three years ago, making it to the island by other means, and having been able to evade capture several days after Jason himself. When finally captured, her telepathic abilities lead to her being taken underground, without the knowledge of her brother, and kept there. She was to become their new weapon should Dreadpool fail, as well having been kept as a secret hostage, and when Jason inevitably discovered this secret, he vengefully set out to destroy the entire organization and free his sister from their cruel grasp.

Utilizing his gathered assortment of skills to sneakily gain access to the faction's missile grid, he had rigged their machine to commence the firing of missiles all across the island itself. Hastily giving himself a time lapse between saving his sister and when the explosions would sound off, he rushed to the access point, intent on freeing her. Yet again met with a stroke of luck, he managed to get past the security mechanisms, freeing his sister from her binds, and reuniting with her at last as the missiles went off above, wiping out the vast majority of those whom served within the faction itself. But all was certainly not well. Time was short, with the compound beginning to collapse on itself as a result of the destruction above. In the midst of their escape... a mound of rubble collapsed atop Sarah, killing her instantaneously. . It was all too much, and in the harrowing grief prior to the physical struggle, his final ability, teleportation, unveiled itself. All about the island they want, the unmanned, former leader of the mercenary faction exhibiting the utmost extremity of skill and borderline metahuman capability as he battled with his former underling. McGrath had nearly lost, in the split second that he finally gained an opportunity, he utilized his still growing matter manipulating abilities to momentarily cripple his former master, and forcing him off the rim of a high elevated position, down into the waters below....

He had escaped. The mercenary threats were dealt with, his former master seemingly defeated. But Sarah was dead. His efforts to save her were in vain. His family was gone, taken from him by these terrible forces, by the now destroyed organization. He couldn't return to his previous life, it would be impossible to just pick up where he'd left things off, not after everything that had transpired. He was alone... left behind, cursed with immortality that he felt he didn't deserve, not when it could have saved his sister. It cemented the brokenness that had clouded mind for three years, the developed and darkened personality the only shelter he could turn to. He left the island, but unknowing of what to turn to next, of what to expect, the occupation of an assassin and mercenary stayed with him...
