Origins of the Imperium
Long ago, an ancient and highly developed race favoured by the Primordials. called the Masari developed in a distant galaxy. Lovers of beauty and spirituality, they were highly in tune with the nature of life, but despite these beliefs their technology, magic, and psychic prowess was developed to a great degree. They decided to share their gifts with the universe at large, and went from world to world, uplifting many species, often altering their forms to resemble their own. The Novians for example; were originally a race of what humans would call avians before the Masari altered them to resemble their mammalian forms.
They visited the Earth some two hundred and fifty thousand years ago, and they took a small number of the hairy, ugly bipedal apes that were humanity's ancestors and altered them to make them beautiful like they were. They gave this select group some of their technology in exchange for following their beliefs. But a hundred thousand years ago, after ten thousand years of war with something known as the thought sin, the Masari simply vanished. But their other uplifted races continued to develop in the wake of the end of the Masari Ecumene. Having survived the defection of Xaraghoul the Ravager to the forces of Chaos and having already been established for a hundred and fifty thousand years; the Imperium of Man claimed itself to be the truest heirs of the Masari.
The Imperium is founded on the principle that Mankind in all of it's forms is destined to go forth in a grand crusade and unite all the multiverse into one, benevolent empire where there will be no further need for strife. While the alien does not have mankind's destiny, the Alien and the mutant is welcome to join humanity in it's glorious quest to bring peace through power to the whole of the universe and beyond.
Though they left the Earth in a long distant past, the Imperium is ever watchful of it's home, and has observed the entirety of the history of Homo Sapiens Sapiens, Homo Sapiens Deus, and Homo Sapiens Superior. Many an alien or supernatural assault that would have destroyed the Earth were crushed in wondrous battles by the Imperium well out of sight so that mankind could develop without the oppression of foreign dominion. Though the Imperium has resolved to allow the Earth to handle it's own affairs if they are within it's ability to handle, it has intervened once before the Marathon conflict; descending down to rescue a child named Johnathan Edenson from the clutches of the Black Hand so that he could fulfill his destiny to become a great hero.
Holy Chiron
Chiron is the beating heart of the Imperium of Man and has remained so for two hundred and fifty thousand years. Situated tens of thousands of light years away from Earth, Chiron is guarded by an awe inspiring fleet drawn from the Imperium's domains, which pockmark the stars for billions of times the breadth of the observable universe. This fleet has repelled many enemies in it's past and lies in wait for the final reckoning with the Hierarchy, the Imperium's mortal foe with whom it has waged total war with for a hundred thousand years all across the universe, a war that seems to finally be turning in the Imperium's favor.
Here the throne of the Lord High Protector, Divine Imperator, Basileus, and Kaetzar of the Imperium lies, where the crippled body of Gabriel Thule sits; interred in a mechanized life support suit so that he may live on despite the unhealable mortal wounds dealt to him by his traitorous son.
Here the Imperial Parliament convenes to discuss the running of the Imperium with the aid of the council of High Lords appointed by Gabriel Thule himself. Here the highest courts in the Imperium decide on the most pressing of judicial matters facing the vast and expanding empire. Here lie the most prestigious of academies and the headquarters of the most highly ranked of warmasters and marshalls. Here lie the palaces of High King Varitus and High Queen Maria; who reign as monarchs in Thule's place.
It is a world roughly six times Earth's diameter, though gravity normalizers ensure standard gravity for all of it's inhabitants; whose three suns, one a blue giant, one a yellow main sequence star, and one a red dwarf, beat down on them daily, illuminating the world as they weave a complex orbit around their parent suns.
Unlike many other capitals of great empires, Chiron has struck peace between nature and technology; and vast natural preserves stretch across gulfs of land that could swallow whole Earth countries to never be seen again. It is a land of fierce beauty with strange and deadly creatures that live in the shadow of the edifices of what many call "the beating heart of the free Universe."
Locations
The Platinum Palace
The Platinum Palace as it is known for it's luster, is the spiritual heart of the Imperium of Man. At it's very heart is the throneroom of the Lord High Protector, where the crippled but still unimaginably powerful divinely blessed ruler of the Imperium lies interred in his mechanized sarcophagus where he has remained for the past hundred and fifty thousand years. It is where the royal family; consisting of the long stretching bloodline of Gabriel; make their homes and where they do the duties of their office. Perhaps the single most commonly guarded point in the Imperium, even Xaraghoul at the height of his treachery has never breached it's gates, and the Hierarchy has only ever seen it's spires from a distance before being brutally repelled.
The Cathedral of the Primal ones is the main heart of worship for the Primordial centric religion of the Imperium of Man. Countless individuals make their pilgrimage from all across the Imperium to pray to the great Primordials who embody the most fundamental aspects of the cosmos such as Life, Doom, Time, Space, Breath, Blood, Heart, Mind, Light, Void, Rage, Hope and more. Only slightly less well defended than the Palace itself, the Cathedral of the Primal Ones, like the Platinum Palace, is a complex better compared in size to countries than to Earthly buildings. Here, the power of faith is all but palpable as prayers are made to the highest order of beings.
The most important of the Legions of the Astartes are required to have a Fortress Monastery on Chiron itself, where Imperial authority can be assured that they can keep an eye on the core of their superhuman legions. Populated by the men and women of the Ordo Astartes, these Fortress Monasteries are virtually impregnable bastions of Mankind's finest unit of warriors. Here, one can not only find the high ranking commanders in these armies of super soldiers, but often the Alpharii who command them as a whole. The newest such Legion are the Iron Drakes, created for the Primalborn Johnathan Edenson, though two others of great import are the Angels of Fury and the Brazen Bulls, commanded by High Queen Maria and High King Varitus respectively.
It is also these monasteries where the legions of the Imperial Army are commanded from in case of ground assault on Chiron itself, a rare but ever present threat should an enemy somehow bypass the numerous defenses around Chiron.
Jungles of Masarak: The collective name for the many rainforest and jungle preserves spread across the hot world, the Jungles of the world are thick, rich with life, and act as a defence in of themselves as the ferocious beasts, plantlife, fungi, and micro-organisms within; guided by the will of the Basileus, will always side with the Imperium over any invasive aggressor. Kept around as recreational facilities, these vast preserves of nature are also surprisingly private places despite the world's massive population.
The Younger Mountains: Though many mountains are no longer recognizable due to the Urban sprawl or demolition for construction, the Younger Mountains, named for their geological age, have been allowed to remain due to their impressive and charismatic stature; though the Imperium routinely builds larger and taller buildings than even the greatest of these mountains. Often inhabited and often left wild, the Younger Mountains are a hub of civilian life and activity.
Other districts: Residential areas, industrial centers, research facilities, lesser places of worship and administration, smaller military bases; oceanic and plains preserves, all of these exist throughout Chiron and listing them would stretch this sampling far beyond it's original intent and purposes. Needless to say, the heart of the Imperium of Man is a busy place and filled with people; well over ten trillion of them in fact, before counting those who live in orbital platforms, in dimensional pockets, or elsewhere in the solar system. Countless embassies for various powers also exist here; including, rather strangely, one from Canada as Aleksei Andreinov tries to woo the Imperium into supporting his cause.
The Solar system
Centered around three stars, the Chiron system has hundreds of planet sized bodies, most of them artificially created by the Imperium. Each of these are equal parts residential, economic, scientific, and military areas that help power the core of the Imperium with colossal industry, manpower, research ability, and defensive capacity. All across the solar system are defense stations meant to both warn of enemy attack and to fight against these enemy assaults; while the fleet is capable of quickly mobilizing to meet any threat with generally overwhelming military ability.
Shipyards at the very heart of the Imperium churn out new vessels and academies train up new crews at a staggering rate; constantly contributing to the Imperial War Machine as it marches towards the inevitable victory of it's glorious crusade for justice and goodness in the universe. Gas giants, rocky worlds, habitable worlds, asteroids, comets, artificial worlds, even the stars themselves are all made use of to the Imperium's benefit. Though perhaps not as ostentatious as the now thoughtsin infested artificial galaxy of klo'vis, the Chiron system is sure to impress any visitors who arrive within it.
But woe betide any who arrive with hostile intention.
