The Sun Rises

In the build up to the second world war, the nations that would make up the Allies, the Comintern, and the Axis had a secret build up of super-science made by super-genius metahumans gathered in secret by the governments of the world. The first to get on this path were Mussolini's Italy, Stalin's Soviet Union, Chiang Kai-Sek's China, Hirohito's Japan, and France and Britain back in the 1920s. With the aid of metahuman researchers, the inter-war period developed amazing technology in a short span of time to wage a secret war out of the sight of the world in hopes that they would be able to ensure that a second world war would truly be won by Christmas.

However, in 1927, the Soviet Union made an important breakthrough; under Stalin's direction, the USSR not only reached space, but deployed a faster than light travel engine and von neumann replication systems. The USSR could now spread itself across the stars, and the other nations scrambled to follow lest Bolshevik Russia leave them all behind in the dust. Japan managed to follow Stalin into the stars as an unwritten agreement to not unleash the terrible weapons being developed on the Earth formed as a new wave of colonialism took place. In 1933, two very important new players also got involved; Franklin Delano Roosevelt's America and the new, terrifying Germany of Adolf Hitler.

Roosevelt threw in America's secret resources in with the allies, and Hitler with the Axis, guided by his beliefs that Jews controlled both International Capitalism and Soviet Bolshevism. With Germany's help, the Axis' ability to extend it's tentacles across the stars ballooned and by the time the second world war started and all out war broke out between the space based empires, each major alliance commanded science and armies far beyond anything anyone on Earth could imagine. Though the war in space dragged on to a stalemate, the Axis on Earth was overwhelmed and defeated by the Allies and Comintern's vast superiority in manpower and materiel, and one by one each of the memebrs of the Axis surrendered unconditionally to the forces of Western Liberal Democracy and Communism.

That should have been the end of it, but Akifume Hojo; entrusted to overwatch Japan's colonial possessions in space, abjectly refused to even consider surrender and vowed to continue the war from the stars. Joined by other likeminded fascists and ultra-nationalists in the Axis, the second world war for them would rage for decades more. But in time, an even greater threat would emerge that would force the three camps to unite in the face of annihilation. In the early 2000s, an Alien Empire known as the Hierarchy launched a devastating war against these human nations, forcing the Cosmic Comintern, Axis Uber Alles, and Allied Nations Space Command to band together or face oblivion.

Now, with the end of the war in sight as the Hierarchy starts to crumble within from the pressures of it's hundred thousand year war, Akifume is considering restarting old hostilities the moment the shooting stops. In particular, he dreams of a home-coming to the land of his birth so that he can restore Japan's honor and bring it back to the ways that he grew up with. Under Shogun Akifume Hojo, the Empire of the Rising Sun magnified every aspect of the country it rose from. It's warrior culture, it's cruelty, it's honor, it's barbarism, it's bravery, it's odious repression of basic liberties. It is unknown what the future holds for Akifume's Empire, save for that whatever path it will take; the rays of the rising sun will be red with blood.

Leadership

The Empire of the Rising Sun's head of state is officially the Emperor of Japan. Hojo reveres the house of Yamamoto too much to instate himself as Emperor. However, he has revived the old title of Shogun to crown himself with. Though there is a parliament, all of it's members are or were parts of the Imperial Officer corps and the overwhelming majority are on friendly terms with Hojo. Daimyos act as sector governors for his burgeoning empire, all reporting to those above them on the food chain before eventually reporting to Akifume.

Effectively, Hojo rules as the absolute dictator of the Empire of the Rising Sun. His word is law and all other bodies of the government are at best advisory bodies to his authority. He ignores them as he sees fit and the Empire as a whole reveres him as the lord and master of all and the protector of Japan's honour from the weakness of the political Left. Through his right wing fascist dictatorship, he has forged the Empire of the Rising Sun into a fanatically zealous, brutal military power that primarily only respects strength and likeminded ideologies.

Though it is not officially stated, it is commonly understood by those in the know of space politics that Hojo ultimately bends knee to the Fuehrer of the Continuation Reich; Wilhelm von Strasse and that the Empire of the Rising Sun is ultimately a junior partner in that particular alliance. If Hojo chafes at this, he shows no signs and treats with his fellow leaders of the Axis Uber Alles rather respectfully, even treating the fascist Siamese with a surprising deal of honor. To his enemies however, he is much less kind, and his secret police reaches far and wide to ensure the racial and cultural purity of his empire as well as it's continued loyalty.

Units

Imperial Warrior: The main infantry man of the Empire of the Rising Sun, the typical imperial warrior is equipped with a Kinetic Burst superheated rifle and pistol, a wave-force Katana, and grenades. Special weapons carriers however, can wield anti-tank plasma cutters, micro-missile launchers, kinetic burst snipers, E.M.P casters, or nanite sludge throwers among other deadly and inventive weapons. Those equipped with wide-brimmed hats are actually capable of burrowing via firing plasma cutters into the ground, others have holo-field generators for stealth attacks. The power suit of an Imperial Warrior is somewhat inferior to that of an A.N.S.C peacekeeper, being about 62.55 as effective, but it does allow for greater speed and agility, an important tool for banzai charges.

Being offered enhancements and training far beyond your standard Earth Ninja, Shinobi have actually unlocked the psionic potential in all humans, allowing them to preform the strangest of mind over matter feats; especially biokinesis, to enhance their mastery of Chi, Combat, Infiltration, and subterfuge. The standard Shinobi can be expected to fight evenly with the likes of the Ant and more experienced Shinobi are even deadlier.

Jet/Mecha Tengu: A variable form air superiority/anti-soft target mecha used in copious numbers by the Empire, the Tengu isn't quite as sturdy as the Hanzo, with about half the strength and durability, but it makes up for it with vastly greater speed and maneuverability, capable of easily maneuvering and functioning in space battles while it's plasma cutter rays slice targets to ribbons and kinetic burst autocannons hack down ground based enemies.

Striker/Chopper VX: The Empire relies heavily on transforming units to fulfill multiple roles and to gain the element of surprise over enemies. Their gunship; the VX, is a good demonstration of this. In gunship mode, the VX is an extremely capable tank and heavy meta-hunting unit that bombards an enemy with an endless stream of plasma missiles, while in walker mode, it instead functions as a very capable anti-air unit capable of sweeping the skies of any enemy who would dare approach.
Striker/Chopper VX: The Empire relies heavily on transforming units to fulfill multiple roles and to gain the element of surprise over enemies. Their gunship; the VX, is a good demonstration of this. In gunship mode, the VX is an extremely capable tank and heavy meta-hunting unit that bombards an enemy with an endless stream of plasma missiles, while in walker mode, it instead functions as a very capable anti-air unit capable of sweeping the skies of any enemy who would dare approach.

Naginata cruiser: Armed with all purpose micro-missile launchers and enormous variable warhead seeker torpedo tubes, the Naginata is a stately, powerful sea-dominance vessel that brooks no insubordination in the Empire's quest to dominate the seas of the worlds it visits. Possessing a superb blend of speed, firepower, soft qualities, and armor, the Naginata is certainly a vessel to be proud of in every category.

Notably, Kitsunes are one of the few places where women are allowed to serve in the Imperial military.

Another transforming spaceship, the Giga fortress in it's normal form has an enormous wave-force cannon capable of over-penetrating multiple planets, destroying enchanted Uru, and exceeding even the output of the Musashi, while eye mounted wave-force cannons are "merely" Adamantium vaporizers that punch much smaller holes in planets. Plasma cutter, kinetic burst, and smart missile turrets around it function as it's defense. Over water, the Giga-fortress can unfurl into the wave fortress, which has sixteen massive artillery grade guns that can function as either kinetic burst artillery or wave-force cannons. In addition, a massive array of plasma cutter CIWS, plasma missiles, and kinetic burst auto-cannons help defend it from aggression, as well as immensely tough armour and thick shielding.
Yamamoto Executioner: Huge, powerful, and utterly devastating Kaiju scaled Mecha, the Yamamoto is the Imperial counter to ANSC Chasseur mecha programs. With strength enough to snap Adamantium in twain, absolutely enormous wave force Katanas capable of slamming themselves into the ground to create huge wave-force shockwaves that destroy even adamantium, swift reflexes to meet enemies from multiple quarters, wave-force eye beams to deal with distant enemies, and an array of plasma-nanite missiles for that added bit of spite, Yamamoto Executioners are protected by hugely thick armour and shielding and self repair nanites that absorb directed energy attacks essentialy meaning that energy weapons actually make them heal faster.

This Empire of the Rising Sun is in *space*. It split off from Japan in 1945 when it refused to acknowledge the final peace that ended the war. Space nations are allowed a free pass and you can do whatever you want with them.
