Comic Vine Podcast 12-20-13
I expect about a 9 hour podcast here, there was a ton of books released this week. Seriously though, I wish the entire comic vine staff a merry xmas.
@timelord: it's not Skype. I've had to use a different editing software. Gotta figure if there's a way to compress em more.
@GManFromHeck I'm reading comics for over 20 years by now and i kinda enjoying what Brian Azzarello is doing with her, i think it's to have some diferent stuff from time to time and this also make me move from book to book following what looks nice to read by the time.
Can either Mat or Corey inhale helium before you record? Because I can never keep them apart. It sounds like there're only three people on the podcast.
@themanintheshoe: Maybe there are! (The trick is figuring out which one of them isn't real!)
Actually it was Slam's son Sam Bradley Jr. who got Catwoman pregnant, which makes it kinda weird since Slam also had a relationship with Selina.
Is it weird that I don't like the music but I do like the zany sound effects
5 Imposed New Years Resolutions for the Comic Vine Podcast
1. New and varied voices - You lost J. Robinson and Sara this year, it's time for some new voices. Matt is a good start, but Jen has been on... maybe 3X this year? Diverse perspectives on these comics will keep the chatter interesting.
2. Stop referencing continuity - Tony prefacing continuity nitpicks by saying "I know I'm not supposed to" doesn't change the fact that we have to then listen to them. Marvel and DC have made it very apparent over the last few years that continuity is what you make of it
3. Allow 1/2 stars in reviews - Do you hear Matt struggling to put a full star label on his various reviews? It makes life easier for the reviewer, it informs the audience better and it makes Wednesday reviews more diverse.
4. Have Corey dial it down to 11- little less Corey every week. Little less wacky voices, little less punchlines that drop like a lead balloon, a little less 2 cats comics
5. No music, sound effects, and reduce the tangents - If you want CV to be considered among the informed and mature comic audience, streamline the show to be about the medium. Talk about storytelling, consequences, character arcs. Look at iFanboy for inspirtation
I agree with some of what the poster above me said (but not all). Tony should understand that anyone who listens to all the podcasts hear the same things over and over. How busy Tony is. Annoying YouTube stuff faded in while someone other than Tony is speaking. Tony talking about how announcing a relaunch is like abandoning the current series. People that are reading and enjoying the book will continue to do so! It just has an end date! Nothing wrong with a story having a finite end. It's also a lot easier to listen to a podcast jokingly and sarcastically utilitizing morning DJ sound effects than disrespectful drowning out of co-hosts voices with irrelevant YouTube videos, on an audio podcast.
I love Comic Vine and I'm only expressing this constructively. Keep up the great work guys and happy holidays and new year.
@g_man: Thanks for the reply I hope you have a good break
Good show guys as always.
DC is really bad when it comes to their trades the hard covers for Wonder Woman and Auqaman Vol 1 are already out of print and its only been a year. I wish more books would get the hard cover treatment as DC's ones look dam good sitting on a shelf and over the next two weeks I should have them all.
Everything all of you suggested... I'm going to do the exact opposite.
Also, lots more Boys II Men references.
See you in 2014.
@g_man@undeadpool@missj@inferiorego so i thought last podcast was good. man this is the bee's knees! you guys are so great!
@undeadpool Nice mention of Skold on the podcast. Really liked his first album right before KMFDM called it "Adios", after that I haven't kept up with him too much. Still it was a lot more solid than current KMFDM.
I want a podcast with cheesy radio sound effects!
I like you.

LOL! I laughed so hard at that I started crying. Thank you for that.
@inferiorego OOPS! You guys, I meant @undeadpoolIn Junior High, when the X-Men cartoon was on, I came up with a story where Cyclops and Wolverine are fighting... again, and nothing can stop them from killing one another except a mind blast from Xavier or Jean Grey. Both blast them and accidentally force them to switch bodies. Cyclops is now in Wolverine's body and vise versa. The story would then have the sort of usual idea. The rest of the Team not knowing the switch happened at first. But then Jean seeing the switch when Wolverine tried to pretend to be Scott because he thought he might be able to be with her now... sort of like the MJ storyline in Superior. Then showing Scott and Logan trying to become accustomed to their new powers. Scott trying to control the blades in his arms and his healing and senses, and Wolverine trying to control the canon lasers in his eyes. Suddenly we would have Scott moving and acting like Logan, not shaving and crouching more, and Wolverine suddenly shaving more and standing up straighter and stuff like that. Jean does end up with Logan but only his body she would still be connected to Scott's mind. And that is where I would have left it, the team dynamic changed. Maybe even show that with Scott now in Logan's body and mind (like his Octavius is imprinted on Peter's mind) we see that Scott now has to cope with the berserker rage and Logan now must cope with the mental block that stops him from controlling his powers and the memories of being with Jean.
