Your Holy Anime Trinity

Okay, freaks and geeks, here's how it works. There have been other threads in the past that asked what your favorite anime was, but this is a bit different, the question is this. If you had to choose THREE anime to represent the genre (let's say, you're trying to convince someone who's never seen anime to give it a try) which three would you choose? Of course, you can choose personal favorites, or just ones held in high regard by the masses.

My three would be:

Samurai Champloo is a VERY close number four btw.

2. Code Geass season 1

3. I've been watching Zankyou no Terror(God I hate that name) and I'm really liking it so far. If it keeps up like this I'll add it to this list.

3. One Piece.

Aside from the ones I mentioned, my personal recommendations would also go to Yu-Gi-Oh GX, Outlaw Star, and Dragonball.

Full metal alchemist: Brotherhood.

Death note/monster

Naruto/code geass/Attack on titan

it'll be better to start off at those which are short, and sweet.

One Piece, to show the fun-loving, yet still action-packed side of anime

Death Note, to show the darker and more complex side of anime

Space Dandy(though i've only seen a few episodes here and there myself), to show the more comical an adventerus side of anime

Dont really care how people call AoT overrated I like it irregardless. Black Lagoon is awesome and extremely underrated. Ghost in the Shell to me is up there with Evangelion with evangelion imo. Espefially the fist animated movie. Such nostalgia....

@fallschirmjager: read four books of akira out of six. Loving it so far. Is the anime/movies better?

The book are better for story, because the movie is only 2 hours long.

However, Akira is basically the first modern anime ever. Its the first anime to have 24 fps. The first anime to do principle animation AFTER the voices were recorded (so you could match the facial expressions to the voice and not the other way around). Its one of the first anime to ever become popular in the west and given crediblity to the genre as more than just "for children"...etc

The artwork and animeation quality today is still fucking amazing. There are anime today that are not doing better work than Akira did (it might look better, but the animation work is not up to par)

You could list Akira's accomplishments and meaning to anime for days. That is why its one of the trinity for movies.

Not to say the story is crap. Its just condensed.

Word. I only got through the first 2 volumes then got distracted.

I also completely derped. I was reading it online and somehow I managed to get through the first entire volume without realizing it was an american translation of the manga and was suppose to be ready left to right instead of right to left

@princearagorn1: i didn't enjoy either of the FMAs, but that's most likely because i don't enjoy dark anime...

FMA is dark? This is a new one for me.....

@Cooldes: you don't have to like something to admit it's better in some regards.. Naruto is my favourite anime, and I have never once said it's better than brotherhood.

true, In my post I wrote Space dandy, even though I myself don't enjoy it(which is why I haven't watched it). but in my opinion, fma isn't that great. I just don't see what all the buzz is about. watched it, and it was nothing to special (to me) and it also wasn't the type of anime I enjoy watching... so yeah, that's why it isn't in my top 3 for new watchers :p

unless we're thinking of two different types of dark. by dark, I mean the art at times, and the general mood of it can be very... dark and gloomy. most anime get dark in this way at times(except one piece :D), but I don't really enjoy anime where this happens often

To me FMA isn't anymore dark than Yu-Gi-Oh! (when watched in sub of course).Or......maybe it's I have a habit of comparing everything to the likes of Berserk in terms of darkness.

You obviously haven't watched the sub version of Yu-Gi-Oh! have you?

I would say things that happen in Season 3 of Yu-Gi-Oh! GX alone, matches the darkness of Fullmetal Alchemist series.. Amon Garam, Yubel and the Supreme King says hi.
