My worst enemies don't know I hate them.

The closest answer for me is to just leave the room. I'd try to avoid eye contact and try to avoid communication so as to not change the current status of our dispute. If he was polite and trying to talk, than I'd try to lessen the tension between us. Or, it could go the other way around and get heated. I've actually been in this situation, as this worse enemy was my supervisor and another was my second line supervisor. Because my second line supervisor was once a friend, he almost changed, but his ego, along with my supervisor would not allow him to change. But, looking back, I probably could have done a lot of things differently with my second line supervisor, but, with my supervisor, we were just stone cold antagonists, but I could have done things differently with him as well; it's just that he was brought in to be the bad guy, when my second line supervisor and I became enemies and he was so rude to me on our first encounter, he just sounded like he couldn't have been persuaded (e.g. he used the phrase "I wont be second guessed by you", when I tried to meet him for the first time and reason with him for the very first time; I tried on a couple of other occasions but he had a preference for attacking my professional credentials and attacking me on a personal level).

I talk to them, unless I'm already angry then I'll fight him.
