This may come to little surprise to most gamers, but it has being pretty much confirmed that Watch_Dogs and Assassin's Creed are set in the same universe. I'd like to point out that at the time of writing I haven't played W_D yet, but I've being keeping on with some information released by friends who bought the game and I recently was informed of one such thing that confirmed their connection. If you may remember, some easter eggs that had being revealed about the game had constantly referenced Abstergo, the ominuous corporation from the Assassin's Creed games that serves as a front for the Templar Order.
This lead to some gamers into speculating that Watch_Dogs is an spin-off to Assassin's Creed, set in the same world. In the other hand, it might be nothing more than just nod to Ubisoft's other big franchise, unless if important plot elements were really introduced in the game. It had come to light that there is a subquest in the game where W_D's main protagonist is charged of killing an individual named Olivier Garnier, whose profile is started to be CEO of Abstergo Entertainment and outright "targeted by the Brotherhood".
In case you don't know, Olivier Garnier was indeed a character from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag that appeared during the modern times parts, in which he serves as the nameless protagonist's boss. Midway in the game, he is reported to go missing while travelling to Chicago (Watch_Dogs' setting) and according to his profile page in the Assassin's Creed's wiki he was killed on behalf of the Assassins. Unless if information on this subquest turns out to be fake, this pretty much confirms that Watch_Dogs is canon with Assassin's Creed.
Personally speaking, I am little more annoyed that both games share the same continuity. I might love the Assassin's Creed series with all my heart, but I was hoping that Watch_Dogs could kind stand on its own right as a continuity. Its surprising I know coming from one of the biggest fans of the franchise this site has. But I'd like to hear your personal opinion on the matter. Where you surprised by it or not? Do you think this is enough to confirm or does it need more evidence?
