Assume you have a son
Say he was murdered
If you had the chance to avenge him without any consequences
Would you or would you let him spend life in prison?

@kgb725: damn spell check
Avenge? No Consequences? I would drag the guy through the city with his guts.
Depends on why he was murdered

I think it depends on the circumstances... if my son was innocent and he gets killed by some scumbag... then whoever did it is going "Down Into Oblivion"... on the other hand, if my son was a criminal who got himself into a situation where he was killed... it maybe harder to have desire to avenge my child... especially if my son had killed someone himself.
@king_saturn: that answer surprises me. Only because I see my family members on a higher scale than the rest of society

Yup. What he said.

Nothing wrong with that... but I don't think that you would be as emotionally charged to avenge a child if you "Knew" your child had Killed someone else unwarranted in comparison to you "Knowing" or even simply "Believing" your child is innocent and was Killed by someone. You would be hurt by the former but I don't think you would take initiative to attack quite as fast as you would if the latter was the case.

Relevant.
Willem Dafoe smiling as The Green Goblin is an image I will never forget.
If there were no extenuating circumstances to the murder, yeah, I'd agenge him or anyone else, but trying to be objective, there are circumstances where the issue is murky. If I was not sure of the killer, if my son started a conflict that escalated, if it was an accident, then I think mercy is needed.
In general though, I'm all for killing first degree murderers who leave little room of doubt about their guilt.
