A problem that affects the entire world helping eradicate racism and sexism? By the world taking on a cooperative bid to solve it? You mean, that's all it takes? We've been fools all this time. Fools.
Pretty sure the leaders just nuke the aliens and the aliens attack again and we nuke them again until the atmosphere is poisoned, earth is uninhabitable, and everyone is dead.
It would bring people of all races together. Knowing the existence of extra-terrestrials and their threat would put humans into perspective, as one species --- the human species.
@mandarinestro: @frozen: I don't think humans as a whole are at that point yet. I don't think its that simple. For example I do not see North Korea and America's armies working together to fight aliens. As far as I know North Korea or any other enemies of the US could let America be attacked and try to even help the aliens and then take over. That is a all theoretical of course. And yes there would be many who would share the same idea as you, that humans should unite as one species to fight, but I think there's too much hatred between the many nations of the world. Some probably wouldn't even want to fight back.
That's just my opinion though. I could be completely wrong.
