@willpayton:

Be careful now. The temptation may be too much for you.

@rdclip:

Referencing Kids in the Hall = instant epic status. Bravo.

Pose a general question to Christians on a Christian thread, get barraged with all types of accusations ranging from assumed evil intent to derailing the thread. Derail a thread with "I like kittens, I like cheese", everyone lol. Great job, guys.

@warlock360: No, it's like saying science won't find the Easter Bunny, because it doesn't exist. Then again, there's more evidence for the existence of the Easter Bunny, than there is for a god.

There's a difference between uncertainty and certainty. He's saying no one will find something because he thinks it might not exist.

@awesam: Even if it came down to god being what started the big bang? A certain molecule or atom or something that sprung out first? I'm not talking omnipotence here, but his statement ruled anything out.

I don't believe in spirits, or anything deemed spiritual or whatever.

Think about it this way: What is it when a person dies? It is not the cessation of their heart contractions. A person's death is the death of their brain. Their brain is responsible for controlling bodily functions, like breathing, and releasing of hormones that are in some cases crucial in helping us perpetuate our species. And the brain encapsulates everything that makes a person themselves. Their being. Their personality, memories, likes, dislikes, etc.

Now, in a couple of hundreds of years, when we do reach the technology that allows us to bring a person back to life, that is to say, to revitalize their brains, with their person to follow, they will come back exactly as they were, with their personality, memory, etc. restored. Where on earth do spirits belong in this instance?

Religion is just another one of those things created by man to enslave and control common men. And it has worked for the better part of human civilization. I myself am quite sick of it, but whatever.

Science confirms only what it defines. God, if it exists, is not (currently) understood by a set of scientific principles. Until the nature of deity is cogently and rationally defined, and agreed upon more or less universally, scientifically we would not know god if we saw it; science is not set up to identify god.

Scientists don't need to find this information to keep doing what they're doing, and religious people don't need confirmation because they have faith.

Do you believe in Santa Claus? Do you believe that if you go to the North Pole and search every square inch, that you will find Santa Claus? I'm sure the answers are probably: NO and NO. What I'm saying is the same thing.

Lmao, ok i'll go there. Here. Is he still alive? No. Did he exist and create a myth about him? yes. Though of course wether he did those things or not is irrelevant.

Uhm -- if science were to find a god -- then there is a god. It's actually the reverse that rings more true which is already happening. People who believe in god even after learning about evolution and the universe will always believe in god.

Uhmmm, yeah, that makes no sense. If science demonstrated that a god existed, then people who understand science will believe it. That's because science is not about blind faith, it's about evidence and logic. If you have evidence and logical arguments to prove something, I will believe it.

The unfortunate irony in what you just said, but you dont realize, is that if science proved a god existed, the people who would not believe it would be religious people.

A few great scientific minds have already dabbled with the concept. It seems possible that they may find something.

I believe that if they do find God they will keep it to themselves so that the religious people in the world can never tell the Scientist... I told you so.

An abstract idea is a science. So the thought of god exist is already there and therefore in existence.

Okay, why do Christey people continue to let my stereo types ring true? Start capitalizing and using punctuation you bastards or I'm going to keep making fun of you for not doing so.

Until someone's first name or last name is "God", I am correct. :P

No, because God doesn't exist. Every single argument that theists have used has been refuted at one point or another. Science can't find evidence that a supreme deity doesn't exist, because there's nothing to say that he does, other than a book written 2000 years ago that's not even written by God himself. Yet people claim it as credible.

But if you believe that God exists, that's fine, I won't call you out for it. But I personally don't believe it.

1) Are they looking for God?

2) If God can do all the stuff his PR people claim, then no. He would not be found unless he wanted to be.

3) not being any kinda of expert on the subject, but wouldn't any kind of proof negate faith? Faith being a very big deal in the religions I am familiar with?

4) Lastly, when did Atheism become about trolling believers? I'm serious here. I see it all the time on these threads. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs (or lack thereof) but acting smug and making jokes doesn't make you right.
