3 reasons why the once-great TV show, The Simpsons, has gotten worse over the years....

  • They've been on for CENTURIES! Hate to say it, but I think the show's time is up....
  • They have mostly the same writers from when the show first began. These dudes are getting old and, as a result, the show is getting worse/
  • They'v used a bunch of gimmicks and plots. Springfield gets taken over by robots, The Simpsons go to Brazil... now there relying on the stupidest celebrity guest appearances just to keep the show going.

@GR2Blackout: Hey if you had something that continually brought you millions of dollars with minimal effort on your part would you just quit?

Didn't someone make a blog or topic like this a year ago or less?

I agree with this. In this economy you gotta do whatever earns you cash.

@Samimista: No one ever talks crap about football running on forever despite it being pretty much the exact same thing over and over again. At least the Simpsons occasionally have the balls to admit they're doing basically the same 5 episodes over and over again.

@joshmightbe: Lol! I always agree on what you have to say. Wasn't it you actually who made a blog or thread very similar to this one? I know someone did but can't remember who exactly.

Of course the Simpsons should have ended years ago, but it won't till someone kicks the bucket to be honest.

#6 Posted by joshmightbe (25857 posts) - - Show Bio

@Samimista: I've made a few blogs about the Simpsons so maybe

@joshmightbe: If it was yours then I enjoyed the read. I recall the blog being very detailed and well written.

At the end of the day it's still funny. Is it as classically hilarious as it used to be? No, but it's better than most crap on basic cable now a days.

You can't stay fresh forever can you? They had their ups and downs but they just got worse since the movie was out. I laughed every moment now and then but later I forgot about it some hours later. I stopped watching it after the episode where Fat Tony dies and he is replaced by a younger and fitter version of himself, until he starts to get fat and basically becomes the old one. I was like "Wow, did I just watch 'The Principal and the Pauper' again?" because that is what they basically did!!

Better than Family Guy.

@GR2Blackout: I'll tell you this: when (if) they announce the final season, the rating will be through the roof.

This. I still give a chuckle from time to time.

This too.

@YourNeighborhoodComicGeek: Family Guy used to be funny before it came back from being cancelled, after it came back it went off the rails.

Pretty much. But Family Guy had its moments as of late and then which is more than I can say about Simpsons.

Can one of you dudes explain to me why Family Guy's humor reminds me of a "Adult SpongeBob SquarePants" humor d?_?b

@GR2Blackout:

Centuries??? I wouldn't consider 20+ years a century. But yeah nothing last forever and The Simpsons should have ended some time ago.....d^_^b

@KnightRise: So True

@superstay: I know the show is way past its prime but am I the only one who thinks it'll just feel weird if it doesn't come back for a new season? The show has been on since I was 9, and even when its at its worst its still better than over half of the shows on CBS

Let's see how you look after 20 years.

@joshmightbe: I still watch The Simpsons because of nostalgia. So I agree with you

@The Stegman: lol

I like family guy.

Though I haven't watched it or Simpsons for awhile now.

I admit Simpsons has gotten more stale over time though its still funny at times and as it was said its better than football and other sport which is basically the same all over again.At least the simpsons tries to be different at times.

Very true, but that doesn't mean the quality will suddenly improve.

My only problem with simpsons is reruns. The show is twenty years old and only airs once a week. I shouldn't have to see the Lady GaGa episode twice in two months.

Family Guy > The Simpsons

I like Family Guy, but I prefer American Dad instead. Even if both shows are funny, there is a lack of story and characters development in these series. There was a good vibe in the first 10 seasons of the Simpsons, tons of legendary episodes that stay in your head forever. Family Guy is all about gags and dirty jokes whereas The Simpsons was more subtle with the jokes.

Ok, I agree it's really boring watching the Simpsons today, but the first 10 seasons were fantastically entertaining and emotionally unforgettable.

I knew this debate would spring up the moment I saw this topic. First page too.

I think humor is too subjective. What makes you laugh is what makes you laugh. It may not make me laugh, but it makes you laugh which is what matters. Honestly Family Guy and American Dad make me laugh more than the Simpsons. That doesn't mean The Simpsons is a bad show or unfunny. My uncle loves it and still watches it religiously.

Family Guy was better than the Simpsons before it became a soap box in between fart jokes

You're not the only one. I also think the show is past it's expiration date but when there was the cancellation scare sometime last year I thought it would feel strange not seeing new episodes air.
