Why is World War I underrated?
Because the US was more involved with WWII and since most of the Entertainment industry is within the US, there are more Films, Video-Games and Media about WWII.
Also recording technology was much more advanced in WWII so there are more information.
Another factor is trench warfare. WWII was "Epic and Massive" whilst WWI was "Tragic and Bloody".
@consolemaster001: Have you heard of the story where British troops tricked Ottoman infantry into smoking cigarettes laced with heroin?
Because 'Call Of Duty: Trench Warfare' was never made.
Lol
America isn't the centre of the world, unlike what most viners think, WW1 is taught thoroughly and is greatly remembered and respected in Europe, but i guess america only likes to remember wars they won but for the heck of me.....i can't remember one they won by themselves, even in both world wars they jumped in at the end, and they say they saved europe when it was Russia that done the work yet they get less plaudits due to the cold war, anyone can jump in a fight and beat up a wounded man....it takes real men who outnumbered and out gunned yet fight from the start till the end
Slightly bait but only saying the truth because this thread is both disrespectful and embarrassing tbh

They(the US) did most of the work defeating the Japanese, that's for sure
@comicsrulebutdbzdoes2: The Mexican-American War was started by US and they won it without any intervention by other major powers.
@modernww2fare: That too. Aaand they won the Revolutionary War and Civil War on their own lol.
@modernww2fare: That too. Aaand they won the Revolutionary War and Civil War on their own lol.
America won and lost that war.

America won and lost that war.
Regardless, they still won it! MURICA!
WWII gets more focus because it's easier to demonize Hitler (rightfully so) as opposed to WWI which was mostly due to the build up of imperialism.
@blacklegraph: Ah another reason.
In WWI there was no clear cut "Good vs Evil" scenario however WWII could easily be that.
@mandarinestro: lmao yea
@modernww2fare: Actually it's either CoD: TW or Age Of Empires: World At War since it's the last war where every old fashioned empire took part in.
@ultragreenboy: Technically, Alabama, South Carolina, Kentucky, Virginia, Louisiana, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, Tenessee, Mississipi, Florida, and Arkansas are the ones who lost since they were not acting with the consent of the federal government.

Hmm ... I see.

Actually, America won the Civil War. The treasonous Confederate States(they formed their own country) lost.

In part this. WW1 is like the Star Wars prequel trilogy: it started over boring legislative debates over alliances and secret treaties and some insignificant group of people in the Baltic Slavic people wanting their own country(worked, but led to another genocide)
That's boring.
World War 2 is the original trilogy. It had Darth Vader[Hitler], SS[literally], genocide[Olderan]. The leaders of WW2 were more interesting, too. Roosevelt, Hitler, Stalin, Churchill and Moose in Italy.
WW2 just fits our Hollywood model of the great evil and those who rose up to face it. It was also the first time Americans had been hit at home in a war since 1812. Pearl Harbor was the 9/11 of its say--it made us question our safety and made of scared of the outside world.
WW1 was over maritime trade rights as American ships broke the German blockade and American ships were being sank as they tried to trade with the English(BORING!)
WW2 is given more attention in schools because that was the war that finally saw America, both it's government and citizens, go from being isolationist and content with being a regional hegemon to become the king daddy of the West.
Prior to WW2, Americans would vote out a politician that dared to call for foreign intervention.
Also, WW2 is like the prequel to the Cold War, which is very important in American history.
America didn't join the war until 1917 and was trying to avoid it, if you are from USA and wondering why it gets less attention here. We were not ready for it and wanted no part of it.
In world war 2, we still joined late but were in it for a longer period of time, lost more soldiers, and there was just more death overall. Given that the Holocaust happened then too, that just makes it that much more notable. Not to mention the Iron Curtain and US occupying Germany and the cold war and all of the other stuff that happened as a result. WW2 helped get us out of the great depression too.
I've only compared it to WW2 in my post but compared to the other times America has actually declared war (which excludes Vietnam and our war in the middle east), have just had a greater affect on America. Even the Cold War has, IMO at least.
It seems it gets more reverence in other countries but it is simply not as important to america as the other wars it has been in.
I for one would love to play a game or watch a movie about ww1
You should watch Joyeux Noel. It was a great World War I movie about the Christmas truce between the Germans, Scotts, and French.
@mandarinestro: I really don't see the point of making like fictional war like that would be a prequel to the first game
@batmanx2005: I'm only joking. I don’t even like COD anymore.
@noone301994: thanks I will be sure to check it out
They didn't call it the great war for nothing. It changed the shape of many European countries. Not underrated, whatever the hell that means anyway.
@rev_sulphur: It is in the most important country in the world, America! :P
Many good reasons have already been listed so I can only agree with those. I know i've personally been interested to learn more about it but it's very hard to get even a basic idea without reading through history books which I am not really interested in. It's just not featured in media much at all.
@modernww2fare: hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah oh oh oh aaaaaaahhhhhh hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah okay okay good one.......hahahahhahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha brilliant.
@bruxae: there is loads of movies tv shows and documentaries told from many different views and aspects of ww1 available if reading is too hard for you.
Because the sequel was better.
WWI= Batman Begins
WWII= The Dark Knight
This comparison is so f^cked up.
World War I is the most extensively covered war in terms of books in the world. It is by no means underrated . . .
