Why is the Vietnam War underrated?
@consolemaster001: Exactly!
It's not
Compared to just about every other American war except Korea, it is
Not enough actual footage (in relation to more popular and recent wars) be it stories, pictures, facts and documents about what actually happened and the fact that it's morally hard to justify especially given the damage done to innocents.
@modernww2fare: in what way
@modernww2fare: in what way
It's far less talked about and honored
@modernww2fare: depends who you talk to. Honnered? Ever hear about the Vietnam memorial. Vietnam took place over 20 years and was a large part of the Cold War
Because the U.S lost
@balee_dattttt: @hylian: the United States was not the only Anti- Communist belligerent that lost....
@modernww2fare: depends who you talk to. Honored? Ever hear about the Vietnam memorial. Vietnam took place over 20 years and was a large part of the Cold War
I know about the memorial, by honored I mean that it seems like a war that doesn't get as praised as much. 'Nam took place over 40 years ago, but it gets overshadowed A LOT
@hylian: so it isn't only the United States failure
@modernww2fare: praise isn't the word you should use for failure to stop communist forces from taking over South Vietnam.
WW2 wouldn't be praised either if a group like the Nazis prevailed
@AssertingValor: People hate admitting defeat
@hylian: would you give one country credit for the defeat of Nazi Germany? Then logically you cannot blame one country for a group failure in Vietnam
@AssertingValor: You would be happy if you were the one who defeated Germany
@hylian: really ? It was a group effort
@AssertingValor: *part of the team that defeated Germany*
@hylian: No one nation was prepared to defeat NG alone. Of course Americans are proud to have been part of the team but even the US would have stood no chance alone.
@AssertingValor: 'MERICA could have done it
@hylian: lol merica
@hylian: what state are you from?
@AssertingValor: Pennsylvania. Suburbs of Philadelphia.
@hylian: damn to far away :[
You think Nazi Germany would've defeated the US one-on-one?
@AssertingValor: were you at m8?
@AssertingValor: We lost in Korea.
The Chinese are nothing to mess with, even in the 1950s. They are the living proof of that age old adage about safety in numbers.
All in all, I think we might be 2-5 on the Continent of Asia. We just don't do too well there.
@modernww2fare: due to the war taking place on German soil and combined axis forces, the US would have had substantial difficulty and the war could have lasted much longer, and had far more American casualties. Really the only chance I see is dropping Atom bombs on German cities as we did in Japan
@hylian: I'm in south Grand Rapids, MI lol a few hundred miles away :/
@nefarious: what do you think on the war on terrorism?
@nefarious: what do you think on the war on terrorism?
I think the war on terror needs to be stepped up.
@nefarious: indeed
lol wtf since when was it underrated? It's one of the most famous wars of the 20th century, what are you on about? It's got countless movies attributed towards it, memorials, documentaries, homages in various other media and is pretty widely known among anyone who's finished high school. It's one of the most famous if not the most famous USA loss of war in history as well as an important event for the world in general. Get your facts straight.
