I agree, it's stupid. One for Doctor Doom would be phenomenal. Such a complex and interesting character.
Why is it we can't get villain centric movies?
@citizensentry: Eh he turned hero at the end, I'm talking about a villain straight through and even sure counting Megamind it's like really just the 1 movie.
@zerosuituser: I was just thinking of posting Suicide Squad myself.
@zerosuituser: True had forgotten about that one i'll admit.
Magneto would be a great choice too. I think there were talks of them making a Magneto film around when Wolverine Origins was coming out but maybe due to that film being abysmal they didn't bother.
And as they say villains tend to be the hero of there own story, agree that it would be interesting to see. I think maybe it has been done in a way but not enough as it could be.
Well, most comic book movies are made by Marvel these days. And they aren't that good at villains. Loki would be the only choice for a movie, and we've actually seen his progression pretty well in the Thor films to the point, I don't think a movie based on him as a villain would work. If they went the Agent of Asgard route, I'd argue that would make a fine movie. But not as the God of Evil, Mischief, or Lies. He would have to be the God/Goddess of Stories.
DC does have Suicide Squad though. And has a lot of room to make villainous movies. Deathstroke could be seen as an anti-hero, but he does some pretty villainous stuff all the same. Lex Luthor's rise to power could make for a movie. Especially if he started out as a more noble person, before becoming the corporate tyrant he would grow to be.
@black_wreath: Really?
I agree. But we will be getting Suicide Squad next year. It should be interesting. If it does well, then maybe more studios would be willing to make villain movies. That'd be cool.
@black_wreath: Really?
I want a Deathstroke movie real, real bad.
But he's not a villain. Just a professional.
@scouterv: DC does have Suicide Squad though.
Is the SS going to be villians though? Looks like they are going to be "bad people" doing good things. I think Wolf is talking about villains doing bad things and getting away with it.
I could see DC doing some straight up villain movies. But, Marvel isn't gonna do it. And we've already had enough Loki and he's going to be in Thor 3, so we're pretty good. I could see Fox giving it a try with Magneto. Like they could do a Savage Land Movie and he could fight Mr. Sinister for control of the Savage Land. Also I heard

Warner Bros is supposed to be working on Mark Millar's Nemesis. I think they want to cast Brad Pitt.
@wolfrazer: Well, they did one for magneto, venom, sandman, and ultron. But that's about all I've got. I would love to see one for Doom and sidious especially. That I can think of.
Because Marvel's target audience is kids. They want to attract as many people as possible and a villain-centric movie is way to risky for them. Well, at least there's Suicide Squad I suppose.
. I think Wolf is talking about villains doing bad things and getting away with it.
Pretty much, a villain through and through, from beginning to end.
Probably because, and this is just a thought, nobody wants the villain to actually win for any substantial reason other than it just being new. The story would feel incomplete to me. At least in some cases.
I suppose a story like Lobo: Sinestro's Rising could be done well and have a pretty evil ending. I'd actually be game for something like that, now that I think about it.
Since a lot of people didn't read Lobo, the gist of the story was Sinestro wants the other corps terminated and hires Lobo to do it. He battled the Red Lanterns and Indigo Tribe before the story ended somewhat abruptly (probably because they had to end the series at 13 and Sinestro Rising took place in 10 and 11, I think) though he never totally destroyed a corps. He did solo the Reds though and had Indigo-1 on the run. Combine that with the story of the last couple of issues that sees him going on a drug-induced, hallucinogenic killing spree including a run-in with Green Lantern, and I think it could work, but there aren't a lot of villains I think people would be willing to sit through too substantial.
I could be wrong though. I'd be down to see some villains get movies, but I don't know I having them do bad things throughout could work.
When you view a story through the antagonist's point of view, don't they cease to be the antagonist?
@scouterv: It would have to be within a group of movies. Like they could do a Dr. Doom movie and have it be within the MCU(once they get the rights back). That movie would set up Doom's place in the MCU and you could keep it moving from there and have him show up in other films.
Make `em yourself. I did one too, with my friend. Gotta love low budget.
send a link to it
It wouldn't fit with the propaganda Hollywood has been force feeding us for decades now.
This.
