So this one goes out to the wrestling fans because it's a question that's got me scratching my head right now..So apparently imo Daniel Bryan seems to be very over with the crowds lately, however my question is why? I mean the guy can wrestle but that's about it. I've never really found anything appealing about his character's personality and his appearance..Well you kind of know where anyone could go with that. I figure fans probably think it's fun to do the "Yes! Yes! Yes!" bit..Anywho thoughts? What's with the hype behind D-Bry?

Yeah I thinks it's the beard along with the yes thing and the whole thing with AJ. That's what got me, especially the AJ part. That chick is so fine!

#3 Posted by cattlebattle (12579 posts) - - Show Bio

Smarks love him because because he is a very good, entertaining performer.

Regular marks love chanting Yes.

He's a good technical wrestler(check out his amateur days). He's more of a "people's champion". He's not the biggest, not the strongest, but he has a lot of heart and determination. I think people are tired of the typical "jacked, boy scout" face characters like John Cena, and Bryan represents just the opposite of that.

#5 Posted by The Stegman (23041 posts) - - Show Bio

He's the most entertaining wrestler out right now.

I'm tired of Cena's pandering to his target audience (kids) and his lame jokes

Randy Orton has no personality besides being the "big scary viper"

Sheamus is just...ugh

And...well, those are pretty much the main three faces of the WWE. Bryan is quirky, his YES chant is infectious, and he's pretty fun to watch in the ring too, not to mention he has more charisma than many other faces.

AJ is one of the few naturally pretty women in the WWE. Everyone else looks like they had too much work done on their faces.

wrestlers like him is y i stop watching wwe

#9 Posted by Gambit474 (1460 posts) - - Show Bio

People actually like AJ? I find her pretty stale now..the whole crazy chick thing loses its appeal after a while. I wouldn't say those 3 are WWE's main faces..since Punk's gone back to being a face so I'd include him, however I'm just trying to comprehend why Daniel's been so over lately.

He's a Jack of all stats wrestler with alot of heart and determination and doesn't smell of over pandering commercialism. To alot of casual fans, that's appealing. Combine that with his relatively small size and not to flashy gimmicks, and he has an every-man within the WWE in a way many superstars are not.

For more Hardcore Fans. he's very well-versed in the independent circuit- kinda similar to CM Punk in that regard, as well as being very technical

Also the Yes Chant.

But I think I'll hand over to the local wrestling expert here

@god_spawn thoughts?

@laflux: I think you pretty much hit the nail on the head. He's ran pretty well with whatever gimmick, heel or face, WWE has given and made it work. People love to the "YES" and "NO" chant it because it's simple, but Bryan made it work. I don't think he's ever really had a bad match in the WWE and he is definitely well known in the Indy circuit by those fans. He can make anyone look like a wrestler. His size also plays apart. He's not a supermodel, and I think he personifies the next generation of wrestlers, for the most part. WWE isn't bringing in as many of the huge bodybuilder type guys. I mean honestly, the closest thing that WWE has brought in like that, that is managing to garner a constant stream of success is Roman Reigns and he isn't even that big. If you look at his size, it's his vest that makes him look bigger, but he isn't much bigger than the other members of the SHIELD.

So Bryan has found a way to really appease to the entire wrestling community, whether it be the hardcore fans on the internet, casual fans, or just the regular hardcore fans. Bryan really is the hottest commodity in wrestling, IMO.

That's all it is. The hand-gestures make it though. People like to chant and move their arms around. It's why "You Can't See Me" got so over originally.

He hasn't really had many good matches at all, and much of his "technical prowess" is informed ability from his work in ROH. Which was good, yes, but not even the best. Nigel McGuinness destroyed Bryan.

He struggles to talk, he looks like an idiot with that stupid beard, and he's simply too damn small. I mean, obviously wrestling is scripted and is about the athleticism and the entertainment, but he's just too short. When your WWE Champion can't ride the Ferris Wheel, you have problems.

But let's be honest, the American crowd is mostly full of total idiots at the moment. They cheered Fandango's entrance music for f*ck's sake.

he's convincing as a "david" in a david vs goliath match up, like a tenacious pitbull. people can relate to that and cheer him, similar to the 123 kid back in the day. similar style to chris benoit

Well..In all fairness I don't mention his size because there's been plenty of good wrestlers that weren't the largest of athletes. Rey Mysterio anyone? Eddie Guerrero? Anywho from observing Bryan and seeing how some describe him..I'm starting to think of him like a modern day Dusty Rhodes..Sort of

#25 Posted by PeppeyHare (4310 posts) - - Show Bio

Smarks like him because he's one of if not the best wrestler in the company. Casual audience likes him because they get to chant and do stupid hand gestures

#26 Posted by theendgame (37 posts) - - Show Bio

I respect Daniel Bryan, Bryan danielson, he has always maintained that he wanted to make a name for himself with personality instead of a costume or typecast. He also does some very high risk moves. Jumping over, through and off the ropes. Flying drop kicks, drop kicks from the top rope. This aggressive style is why he has risen to the top. Right now he's the best act out there.

Watch out for Brey Wyatt. Kid was a beast that went 100mph all day, every day in Florida championship wrestling. He's also got pretty sick mic skills.

The 90s the golden era and the change era of wrestling around the world.

The cruiserweight revolution.

I mean is so damn obvious that even mexican wrestling and japanese wrestling are now using smaller wrestler too.

Even the big guys, arent half as big as they used to be.
