Why do people think these are "American" names?

OK so this dude said my parents were stupid for giving me a foreign name and an American name.

My first name is Caleb. So how is that an American name again? People nowadays see names as "English" while they aren't.

Examples: Elizabeth, Sarah, Mary, Ruth, Jason, Samuel, Thomas, Caleb, David, Peter, Henry, Andrew, John, Jonathan.

All either Hebrew or Greek.

I think the only true American names are from the Native Americans.

@noone301994: His name is Caleb also. Seems to think having a mix of foreign and "American" name is "incomprehensible stupidity" on my parent's part.

Billy comes from William (German)

Joe comes from Joseph (Hebrew)

Diamond is not a name....If it is then it is just another English word.

I'munique sounds French.

Wait... the title is about American names, and now we're talking about white names? There's a difference. Names that one can call "American" would probably originate with Native American cultures.

"White" names would probably be Northern European, I suppose, like Alfred.

Eh. Originates like any other name; all names technically mean something originally in whatever culture they came from. Not much different from Crystal, Sapphire, etc.

Joseph = Jose = Giuseppe etc etc

A name is a name is a name. Some are translated, some aren't, some are whatever. At this point, does it even matter?
