A lot of people will see a turtle just minding it's own business and then throw it in the water why do they do that ? 1. Is it more harmful than helpful considering they could be killing tortoises ?

2. Have you resued a Turtle before ?

I have actually seen things more dangerous than this with turtles being rescued... a lot of times in Florida when you are driving you may see a commuter come to a screeching halt to save a turtle from out of the road that they see up ahead.

Because it's not it's fault it's not fast enough to cross the road. If it's a snapping turtle then I ain't helping it though.

Honestly most people who would pick up a turtle just minding its own business in a field and toss it in a lake are just being dicks. If you pick up a turtle in the road and set it to the side I think that's just trying to be nice if you see a guy hurling one into water he probably didn't have great intentions.

I rescued a very old, injured box turtle. He was around 90 years old and I had him for around 4 years before he passed away. Having a turtle is a pleasant experience. I want another one.

I'll also help a turtle if I see it trying to cross a round, or in the middle of the road.

@kgb725: Well yeah, chucking anything that can't fly is generally detrimental to it's health.

@skit: I'm not saying they just do a hammer throw on the poor turtle but they just blindly think all turtles are the same

There are no wild turtles here, but I can imagine people do it to keep them out of the sun/roads? I dunno, I sometimes help snails cross the road because I don't want them drying in the sun. >_>

I don't know about turtles, but i'd guess they would easily get dehydrated or heat stroke since they are aquatic animals.

The same reason they would rescue any other animal.

@kgb725: That could be said about most animals though.

They rescue them in hopes that they become ninjas to repay the favor.

@bruxae: No I meant snails lol

Oh yeah, they dry out real easily. They usually cross looking for water so I like to put them in shaded bushes in whatever direction they were heading, hopefully I don't put them back where they came from that would be mean, lol.

There are only 4 turtles in this world that I care about, and they are all ninjas.

No other turtles matter.
