Why do people like the smell of their own brand?

Is there a scientific theory for why most people enjoy the smell of their own farts but think other people's farts are gross?
 

Believe it or not methane is a drug and it is produced in people's butts.. 
 
I heard this story of a guy that had an apartment full of his own feces.. What he did was take a dump put it in a canister and then smell it to get high.. He closed it and came back another day to smell it as it got older.. The police raided the place and it was full of it
