Honestly, I think it's the most versatile form of music and requires a lot of talent. Sure, a lot of the mainstream stuff is pretty meaningless, but when you look past that, rap is some great stuff. Lupe Fiasco is one of my favorites.
Why do people hate rap so much?
The most versatile form of music?? Really?

When the music's good, it's good. It doesn't matter what genre it is for me.
Generally how I feel.
Judging on what mainstream rap looks like today, I don't blame them.
@Deadcool: Music is any kind of artistic form of auditory communication over an instrumental or vocal structured background
So many haters and whiners against hip hop's cred
They ain't getting it. Yeah, their brains're just dead
Can't handle the badass of lyrical geniuses
Just go and talk smack cause they're all jack*sses
Guess them idots think all rappers are Vanilla
Or Lil Wayne or Mane, I swear I will kill ya
Never heard of Tupac or Bone Bone or Biggie
Only listening to sh*t so-called music of Nicky
Shut up haters, don't judge rap by these posers!
There is more to rhyming than these mainstream f*ckers!
So lay back and let us see and envy the dream
And bow to the baddest... named Krispy Kreme

Well, once my music teacher told me that Rap is not music because the music contains 3 elements melody, harmony and rhythm. I think that Rap lacks of melody, so it is not music.

Well, Rap is not considered music...
ANd I don't think that there is a lot of people out there that hate Rap.
Correct that rap is not music, and I hate rap.
(C)rap is just a bunch of drum beats, techno beats, or whatever, and guys talking to a rhythm. Meaningless to me, and I pretty much hate all of it.

Heh. To be honest, while not all rap is offensive or demeaning, and there is some rap that may be fun to dance to (I can only think of one song, and can't even remember what it's called... or even if it's actually rap...), I do not like listening to it solely on it's own; I'd end up shooting myself if I did. I don't even really like it when it's done for a reason or to dance to, either, because it's usually way too loud, obnoxious beats and smashing on drums, and it is almost always just another grasp to our primal instincts of "LOUD SOUND GOOD" rather than having good structure or form (oftentimes), or meaningful sound attached to it (almost always).
Some people hate it because they get haughty about how "immoral" it is and look down on it. And it's also dumb how people could dislike instrumentals when it's the lyrics that are the problem.
In this specific post of mine my disclaimer is that I don't consider Rap as a genre. Rap is more to Singing as in it's is the action. Hip-Hop is the genre. With that in mind I hate the sub-genre which is Hip Pop just as much as I hate Pop Rock. However other parts of Rap I am more willing to listen to. Blue Scholars, Common Market, and Lupe Fiasco. The only Hip Pop artist I'm willing to listen to is Wale.
Alot of people just think Rap doesnt make any sense at all... I honestly never thought it made any sense cause I couldnt understand anything anyone says.
However, Eminems the one and only best rapper their is.
WE do have an official Hip Hop Thread
buttah
I say because they are closed minded, and probably arrogant people.

Where is your argument? Lots of people like rap, otherwise it would have died out by now. And why can't some people dislike, or even hate rap? must we all like the same things?
People hating rap doesn't have anything to do with the talent level or quality of music. Alot of people who hate rap hate it because they claim the the lyrics are homophobic, racist, misogynistic, violent, etc.
There is a lot of quality rap/hip hop being produced today. Just dont look for it on MTV or the radio. The Underground Hip Hop genre is, and has been, an amazing form of street poetry. They have clean and creative beats, well thought lyrics, a combination of genres and, in many cases, use a live band as well as a DJ. Crown City Rockers is a good example of a mixture of Jaz and Hip Hop, use a live band, a great back-up singer in addition to the MC (Raashan Ahmad) and the DJ (Woodstock) is very skilled. Zion I is another great group; though they dont use a live band, the DJ (AmpLive) is probably one of the best i have ever heard, and MC Zumbi is a ridiculous lyricist. There are a lot of extremely talented groups out there. But the main stream rap and hip hop that is being produced is, in most cases, crap.
Just don't really like rap its not to my taste to be honest.
Any one who has seen my posts in the what are you listening to thread knows what genre I favor.
1: There's so much profane language.
2: Most rappers are insecure losers.
3: It irritates me when people play it so that you can hear it on the other side of the highway.
4: It's overrated; I mean really, what's so good about it?
I love rap and hip-hop. I mostly sway towards Kendrick Lamar, Nas' older stuff, Atmosphere, Murs, MF Doom, Childish Gambino and artists like that.I find they're extremely intelligent in their lyrics and a few of them challenge the 'money, women and guns' themes that are present in the majority of mainstream rap.
I hate when people say, "I don't consider rap, music", you don't have choice. The definition of music isn't up for debate, something is either music or it isn't, it's not opinion based what genres you're allowed to consider music.
Personally I think it requires zero talent (well at least modern rap)
Also most mainstream rap is disgusting and promotes violence and criminal activities.
Or maybe its just all the idiots in my school who act like gangsters (which by the way are cowards)
Rap/Hip Hop has it's good artist and bad ones, just like any other form of music. Most people that dislike it, NOT ALL PEOPLE, just don't understand it and in many cases are too stubborn to even try. I love GOOD Rap/hip hop, old and new, but I also personally love other genre's of music too. Evey genre has it's fair share of crap. Love it or hate it tho, Rap/Hip Hop might be the most popular genre of music right now.
Because rap/ hip-hop as a genre has been disgraced by modern bling/gangsta rap (if it can be called that), you know, young money, lil wayne etc.... Its not very good. Sure there's good rap out there, but there's tons of bad stuff too. Same for most genres of music. Also, I don't think anybody hates something as general as rap- that's like hating rock music or all movie music. I dislike some rap but I like plenty of rappers out there.
Also, I think rap can be good but it cannot be as powerful as certain classical or grunge songs are (just my opinion). Rap never evoked the emotions I feel when I listen to Alice in Chains or Pearl Jam or RHCP.
So I guess the answer is that people dislike some forms of rap but plenty people that aren't ignorant of music appreciate good hip hop music.
There's some rappers out there who don't care about the bling and stuff, and just like having fun rapping, one of my favorite current ones (if not my favorite completely) is Donald Glover aka Childish Gambino.Because rap/ hip-hop as a genre has been disgraced by modern bling/gangsta rap (if it can be called that), you know, young money, lil wayne etc....
