Adults have the responsibility of mentoring and teaching the next generation, that's why they're supposed to deserve respect. But you have to give respect to earn respect.
Why do they think they deserve more respect than everyone else? Probably because they want it.
Everyone deserves a basic level of respect but the kind of down on one knee, licking their shoes respect? Hell no, that kind of respect you have to earn.
If someone only validation for why they should be respected lies only in their age, they are most likely not deserving of respect.
People who are older generally do deserve at least a little more respect because more often than not, people who are older have accomplished more and have had more life experience. Basing it off age alone is indeed foolish, but when people are told to respect their elders, I think it has more to do with what they've done with their lives as opposed to their age.
I can agree with this, but I've ran into a decent sized amount of people(And even in this thread it seems) whom believe that they deserve respect solely on the based on their age, and that's something I don't agree with at all. You could be as old as Methuselah for all I care, if you fit the standard for what I consider respect worthy, you ain't getting any from me.
Because they're older. I don't expect anyone to just up and respect some random adult, I wouldn't do that. But at the very least, show some form of respect to your parents.

I would suggest that you interact with more people than ask such a ridiculous question, lol. Take a break from Comic Vine, interact with your community more, and adopt a more respectable mindset; seriously, this is impractical mindset to have once you've grown up and joined the work force. Because they've had to put up with more sh*t than someone half they're age they don't deserve to have to put up with even more from someone who has no idea what the hell they're talking about
Respect is something you should show to everyone at all times regardless of age. Until such time comes when you are disrespected, then that person no longer should be shown the same respect.

Imagine for a second that adults are older than you, have much more live experience and ets. Than think about who we are. We are products of our societies, we're results of socialisation and of our history, and not just our history, but history of our parents and their ancestors. After our birth we're pretty much blank pages that get words written on them later because our parents (hint - they are adults in most cases) are giving us nurturing and we are learning about world with our own experience. You are asking question that only people who think that they are on their own can ask. People who know that they are both part and a fruit of society already know the answer to this question. Everything we have, everithing we live with was created by adults. They made us, both in terms of birth and partly in terms of personality. That's why we should respect them. It's pretty simple.
