Did they think the meteors that crashed into their country were missiles?

Probably the same reason they had nuclear submarines approach the east coast.
They were in international territory and wanted to remind us they're still around.
I like how they show a map for people stupid enough to not know where Russia and the USA are on a map, but use the same color for each country.
@DarkxSeraph: But even North* Korea is acting up again, and China is just chilling. I don't think they want to mess with China because China has the ability to steal jobs away from other countries.
You mean North Korea? NK is on a cycle when it comes to insubordination. They stop making news/being relevant, something gets threatened or a nuclear test. They're like an annoying gnat at a BBQ.
As far as Russia, we've been tense with them for awhile again, and the Adoption Ban didn't help warm relations any. When they brought their nuclear subs toward the East Coast (I think this was last year around 1st or 2nd quarter, could be wrong), it was in international waters, but still there. Then, there were the bombers around Alaska sometime around that time frame (or might have been the year before).
Russia's just reminding us they are still militarily relevant. Maybe they wanted to Vote against new sanctions for NK and thought a military flex might be a bit of punctuation that they are not to be ignored.
Then again, when you think of how many weapons we have within striking distance of their interests, is it really all that surprising? Look at their huge hooplah over the missile shield for Europe.
