Why did Avatar have such little cultural impact?

So everyone knows that James Cameron`s 2009 movie Avatar is the highest grossing movie of all time and when it came out, everyone was talking about it. However, 6 years later, the movie hasn`t really had much of an effect on popular culture.

Look at Star Wars, the movie was not just a commercial success, but a cultural icon for nearing on 40 years. People still throw out Star Wars references in every type of media, kids still play with Darth Vader toys and everyone knows the big twist.

I never see anyone reference Avatar in anything. Aside from a tie-in video game and some toys at the time, it really doesn`t have a media presence anymore. People don`t even seem that interested in the awaited sequel.

Hell, the only effect that the movie seemed to have is popularizing the 3d craze.

It was a genric, boring movie, with good visuals. How it is the highest grossing film is beyond me.

My guess is that sometime before the first Terminator was made, James Cameron made a pact with the devil to have every one of his movies to make a bajillion dollars dispite the quality or lack thereof.

Michael Bay made a similar pact except he forgot the make sure people wouldn`t hate him.

Yes it did. The only problem is that plot is about 100 years old and has been done 200 times before.

What do you mean with cultural impact? It's a well known film but I guess it didn't have anything that stood out alot except the pretty graphics, so there's not much for it to impact.
