Why can't I counter-kill in Assassins Creed 3 - Off-Topic

I feel you guys would know better then Yahoo answers, why is it that everytime I counter on assassins creed 3, everything slows down, then I just push the soldier over, I never counterkill like you do in the last 3 games, where countering would kill most enemies, now i just seem to push them over

@BlueArrow: You're probably following through too late or not at all. After you counter tap the attack button as soon as time slows down. Should work.

Hit the counter button. When time slows down, hit it again, and you'll perform a counter-kill. Otherwise you just shove them away.
