Who is your favorite American President?
Andrew Jackson was actually a pretty horrible President. He ignored the Supreme Court and kicked the Native Americans out of their land.
My favorite American President would be a tie between Franklin Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln. They're buddies too.
JFK because of Operation Northwoods. I wish current presidents had his backbone. This country would be a better place.
Abraham Lincoln, he freed slaves, fought for racial equality, had an awesome beard... and let's not forget how he slayed vampires.
George freakin Washington. Not perfect by any means, but the man had integrity, intelligence, courage, foresight, humility, the ability to govern as justly as possible, and even more importantly, the ability to give it up when he didn't have to. (Sorry @immortalone I liked me some Abe..however...he only freed the slaves pretty much because he had to, he wasn't fighting for civil rights, he was fighting for federal rights...agree though, he had a tight beard ...and a lot of other really good stuff actually)

What's wrong with that?

A number of things.

Franklin Roosevelt was an asshole. He f****d over most of Eastern Europe by basically giving them to Stalin. He was also the closest thing America's had to a dictator.
Teddy Roosevelt on the other hand was pretty awesome. Even though he was a manipulative jerk sometimes, he ultimately helped America a lot, and he was a really badass motherf****r, too.

How did he give Stalin to Eastern Europe?
@yourneighborhoodcomicgeek: He didn't give Stalin to Eastern Europe, he gave Eastern Europe to Stalin.

Ah I see. How did he do that?
@yourneighborhoodcomicgeek: It was when he met with Stalin at the Yalta Conference, and when they negotiated, he kind of let Stalin have many of the Eastern European countries that were under the power of the Soviet Union.

Wow I didn't know that.
@yourneighborhoodcomicgeek: Ultimately, he wasn't a bad president, though. He was just kind of a douche.
Lex Luthor
This.
@edamame: While I agree it's morally wrong to support the Soviet Union, it was to save our own asses. If we didn't support them, we'd probably end up combatting them, and that would've been awful for the U.S. That could've changed the war completely.
@blackadamftw: Actually, at the Malta Conference, the European allies pretty much froze the U.S. out of the talks. They were like "thanks" but you don't live here so eff off. Heck, MacArthur AND Patton (though he died shortly thereafter in a freaking jeep accident) were BEGGING the Powers That Be to invade Russia while we still could).
John F. Kennedy.
"Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country."
Also, he, along with Khrushchev, helped save the world from nuclear desctuction.
Yep, this is how I see it too.
A lesser man would have bowed to the pressures of his staff and popular opinion and "nuked those commie bastards", but he held firm and didn't care if he was seen as weak. Great man.
Ronald Reagan. His wee adventure with Johnny Alpha and Durham Red in the pages of 2000 AD was one of my favourite Strontium Dog arcs, and the first time I ever heard of him.

What was wrong with destroying an entire peoples way of life? Oh well I don't know How about a number of things.
@edamame: I never understood why America and the other Allies (especially Britain and Canada) gave aid to the Soviet Union during World War II, especially if the Soviet Union was more than capable of defeating Nazi Germany on its own. It's not like the Soviets were any better than the Nazis. So, giving support to the Soviets was very unethical and nonsensical. I mean, why would America (a Capitalist country) assist the former Soviet Union (a Communist country)? That just doesn't make any sense to me.
A. The Russians MIGHT have been able to defeat Germany on it's own, but that's a HUGE might. On the Eastern Front the Russians lost about 24.000,000 military and civillians, while the Germans lost about 4,300,000. The only reason the Russians were even able to mount an offensive against Germany and it's annexed countries is because America entered the war, took the pressure off the European allies, split the German forces into two relatively equal fronts, and WAY easing the pressure on Russia. The Russians (needless to say, were NOT happy) and fought their BUTTS off to grind toward Berlin. If Germany had been able to mass most of its military on either the Eastern or Southwestern fronts, they'd have taken over whichever front they massed on, left enough forces to keep an eye on the conquored territory, then sent their forces to mass and take out the remaining territory. They could have started in either direction.
B. Once WE arrived, we had no real choice but to help the Russians so they didn't fail. If THEY failed, then, as previously noted, all Germany would have to do would be leave a smallish occupying force in Russia, send all it's crack troups down into France, Belgium, Spain, and link up with whatever the Italians had left and either make the European front the longest, costliest, bloodiest war we've ever won...OR kicked our butts into oblivion, taken over England, and used it as a staging area for Germany and Japan to come after US.
Moral of the story? Politics and war make strange, if not icky, bedfellows :)

He also saved the economy entirely, and killed the federal bank. Plus, not to come off as racist, but realistically, he wasn't out of line to kick the Indians out.
Aaaannnd, My favorite President is Thomas Jefferson
FDR (he did lots and lots of great and not so great things to get out of the great depression, he gave people hope, and he actually tried, which is a lot more then i can say for the current president...)
and
Regan (nuff said)
Abe Lincoln
Speaking of presidents, for those that haven't seen it yet, the John Adams mini-series, starring Paul Giamatti and Laura Linney as Mr. and Mrs. Adams, is really good.
Tie between Alexander Hamilton and Ben Franklin.
In an alternate universe? Well, they were both awesome, at least.
I guess I'd go with Lincoln, maybe John Adams or Lyndon Johnson after that.
