I was playing Metal Gear Solid on the PS1 the other day and it got me thinking. Snake and Big Boss are both constantly called the world's greatest soldiers but in real life who would be called this?
I don't mean military commander so don't thorw in stuff like Alexander the Great or Caesar.
And I don't mean groups of soldiers so don't say SAS or SEALS.
Just a single person that could be considered the greatest ever living solider?
Who Is The Worlds Greatest Solider?
Greatest? Hmmm, all of the enlisted personnel.
But since we're talking about one soldier, I'd go with this great man:
Major Richard 'Dick' Winters.
Sgt. Henry Lincoln Johnson hands down was the best soldier. In WWI battle he got shot, stabbed, and punctured by shrapnel, but he still managed to kill or injure 16 German enemies, and he did it all with just his bolo knife.
Kind of reminds me of a Gurkha who lost his arm but fought of 20 odd enemy soldiers with a bolt action rifle, I dont remember his name though witch is a shame

I've had ancestors that have fought in wars, such as WW2 on D-Day, but as for greatest soldier? Why, Albert Wesker, of course.

If you're talking kills, I'd say Simo Häyhä.Exactly what I was going to post. Guy was a legendary sniper.
Go Finns!
I'd say my grandpa, since he's the only person who I know is a soldier that I've met. He helped fight off the Red Army in Berlin before he hit puberty. Killed one guy and severely wounded a 2nd.
@Mikepool: When I heard he only used iron sights, I was dumbfounded. Haha.Me too... and then there was the whole he was shot in the face and kept fighting thing...
If you're talking kills, I'd say Simo Häyhä. Unofficial accounts have his kills at over 800. His credited kills are at 705. Guy was a beast.what happened to his head ?
@King Saturn: He was shot in the face, If I remember correctly he promptly killed the person that shot him and then walked to a field hospital... or I may be thinking of someone else...ah gun shot wound... I was curious

@King Saturn: It was an exploding bullet that hit him, it stopped him for about a week....holy moly

Russian General: So your telling me that every soldier we send here gets killed? *points at a map*
Russian Soldier: Da
Russian General: Send 10x as many soldiers as before
(Russian combat doctrine in a nutshell)
I don't know if he's the best but Matthew Axelson might have the biggest balls.
" During the fire fight, Axelson was shot in the chest and head but continued to fight alongside Luttrell until a blast from a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) separated them. Along with injuries sustained from the blast, Axelson died of bullet wounds to the chest and head. When US Navy personnel arrived to retrieve his body for burial, they found that it was a few hundred yards away from the RPG blast location. Axelson was reported by Luttrell to have had three magazines remaining when the blast took place, however, when his body was found, he had only one magazine remaining, which indicates that Axelson continued to fight even after the blast."
