Who is the better actor?

Tom Cruise

Bale. He's got this thing called range. Tom Cruise plays Tom Cruise. Even when they give him gray hair in "Collateral" he's still the same cocky motormouth he is in every movie he makes.

Christian Bale is the better actor in my opinion. His roles in American Psycho, The Machinist, 3:10 To Yuma, The Prestige, Batman Begins, and his dubbed voice acting in Howl's Moving Castle were all great.

Is Cruise an actor?
Most of the characters he plays seem to be basicly the same guy.

Any guy who is willing to starve himself(the Machinist) just to look right for a part is very committed to his trade.
So yes Bale

Christian Bale was disappointing in Public Enemies, but virtually all of his other performances that I saw were better than anything Cruise has done.

I still go with Tom Cruise.

The Dark Night film story was good , it wasn't about the acting o the actor.

I'll choose Tom Cruise. I haven't seen a lot of movies with Christian Bale so I can't really compare them.

Tom cruise has only been half good in one movie, Magnolia.
Otherwise, for American Psycho and the Machinist alone Bale wins here.  He is a real actor.  Cruise is a personality. (and a gay one at that).
