In your opinion , if you had to name one, what would be your American (Not reserved to United Statiens of North America only) equivalent of the British Beatles in term of quality and popularity?

I don't think there is one really, I cannot think of a band who has had the same influence as The Beatles or has ventured into as many different styles
On a Québec scale, i would say Les Colocs. They got a great impact on the Québec Music industry and Culture itself. Their music is played by other artists years after years when La Saint Jean (National Day) hit and Radios still pass their music 15 years after the Suicide of Dédé Fortin. Great Mention to:Yvon Deschamps, Félix Leclerc and Gilles Vigneault.
But on a Continent scale, i would say Elvis Presley Or Michael Jackson.

Definitely the band that is usually referred to as 'the American Beatles' which is the Eagles. Not as successful or as influential as the Beatles but had lots of hits and also had 3-4 guys who had pretty good solo careers after the band broke up(as well as before with regard to Joe Walsh). Not that I'm a huge Eagles fan but they are the closest to it. Their greatest hits album is also the second biggest selling album of all time.

I don't recognize any of them.

@rouflex:You've never heard Hotel California?
@rouflex: you poor thing
Though my choice remains as Bon Jovi
@shadowchaos: I think the fact that 3 different Eagles had solo success shows that the Eagles had a lot more talent than Bon Jovi. For instance, Don Henley had 3 platinum albums(one 6x platinum) as a solo artist and 4 #1 songs. Joe Walsh was successful even before becoming an Eagle and Glenn Frey had 2 gold albums and 6 top 20 singles after the Eagles. They also have 40 million more certified album sales as a group than Bon Jovi has.
@rouflex: Then I guess that would explain why you don't know the members of the band.

Have you seen this before posting? I don't know if its clear, but the ''Who'' have to be known on the entire continent.

@shadowchaos: Stop polluting my thread with that kind of music :P.

@rouflex: I think lots of young kids prob barely know who the Beatles are also. Since quality is also part of the equation I stand by the Eagles. Maybe Nirvana or Pearl Jam though.
Yes, but popularity is also a big part of the equation. Also, i'm not from the generation of The Beatles but i still know them.

@rouflex: whats wrong with the Eagles?
Then again if we move away from rock we also have people like Hank Williams Sr.
@shadowchaos: I have nothing against the Eagles, i just don't know them and i dunno if they are a good answer to my question.
