Poll Who is responsible for the crappy world we live in? (89 votes)
The world we live in sucks. Society has narrowed the suspects down to three groups. Who is to blame?

The sad fact is we are literally living in the best part of history so far, despite what the media would have you believe the past was exponentially worse. Currently you are less likely to have a completely random and pointless death than at any other time in recorded history, unless you happen to live in a 3rd world country you are far less likely to have your town burned to the ground due to wandering a$$holes, if you're pregnant it's not always a life threatening condition, legal slavery pretty much doesn't happen anywhere and women are treated like actual people in more parts of the world than ever before.
All in all yes, we still have huge problems but historically this is pretty much as good as it gets. There was no such thing as the good old days, that's just a myth some older generation cooked up to pass the buck on to a younger one long before any of us were ever born.

This, too. The last hundred years has been humanity's golden age. Never before have we seen such rapid advances in every conceivable area, including on a social and cultural level.
@jedixman: if that was true then all countries around the world wouldn't be so different the state of America wouldn't be so different from 3rd world countries unless youre saying those people are worse overall and are not as good humans as we are
It's not about being "worse" as humans. Some nations simply have advantages (environment, trade, minerals, etc.). Life isn't fair, and it never will be. Some evolved (technologically, not biologically) a certain way that led to certain technological advances which were born out of a need. In order to properly examine a nation, you have to look at the history of not only that country, but every other country that interacted with it.
The world is full of problems and broken dreams... So if by miracle you succeed the process of making me a sandwich, it will be a accomplishement that would worth the mention if you make it your profession or something..

@fatmen: true dat
@sophia89: Yea the US in the 50s and Early 60s was great if you happened to be a straight, white, christian male from the upper or middle class. Sucked like hell for everyone else.
As for the Sweden thing, just cause it may have been good for them at the time it was overall a worse time in the world in general.
I disagree with a premise of the question. This world has bad things in it, but it is awesome.

if you are simply referring to the state of America.
The Unlimited contributions/legalized bribes that exist in politics leads to nearly a complete lack of democracy.
Does the American public actually have any pull over the laws this country adopts?
Objectively speaking, we live in a pretty nice world, in a relative sense. Thing is humans, especially young humans, struggle with being able to analyze and assess all the variables involved in making judgement calls about the entire global state let alone use objective facts in order to compare and contrast it to other time periods. Its also common with human psychology for individuals to take for granted what they have, still want more, and have a negative attitude when things aren't as perfect as they think things should be.
Chances are everyone in this thread who has posted, has access to clean water, a soft pillow, toilet paper, fresh and plentiful amounts of food and shelter. Congratulations, you have it better than the majority of humans that ever lived, including some Kings, Queens, Emperors. Also no one should think that the news is a good source for accurate representation of reality. The news by definition is suppose to cover noteworthy, important, rare, odd, extreme events, and not reflect or represent reality in a proportionately accurate way. If the news was an hour show filled with 59 minutes of "everything was okay and boring for millions of people", oh, but a few thousand had issues with car accidents, robbery, occasional violent crime and murder in one minute, no one would watch, or they would tune in for one minute.
If you feel the world is crappy? You can go on Youtube and watch your favorite music videos. Thousands of different documentaries, some about aliens, some about dinosaurs. You can see videos of incredible animals, locations, buildings, nature, in hundreds of different countries and cities. You can Google Image pictures of kittens and puppies and sexy woman and sexy men. 50 years ago if you were feeling crappy, you know what you had to do? Go outside and talk to a stick. Yet even that would have a better time than 200 years ago, when you couldn't even go outside and if you did touch a stick you would die from a disease. 20 000 years ago, you were already outside all the time, and you could touch sticks, because some other hairy cave guy was trying to kill or rape you. Okay I started exaggerating at the end there, but my point is the world is not crappy. Heres another important thing, its not that uncommon or weird that despite that, a lot of people, especially young people feel that the world is crappy. Thats actually more to do with modern living having a lot of pressures, expectations, stimuli, information, and pace to it, so it can be incredibly hard to get a good sense and perspective of things, temper emotions and ego. I don't mean to dismiss or undermine anyone who feels like the world is a dark, scary, crappy, lonely or sad place. Rather its just not an accurate reflection of reality. Of course, lots of bad things for our species to try and fix, overcome and cope with as well, war is still a thing, a large amount of people don't have access to clean water, food, shelter, education, internet, but the overall trend is that things on the whole are improving for everyone.
@lesterlawton: let what happen? we're living in the greatest times in human history in terms of tech/med/social progress and quality of life

Jews.
How? I never get Jew jokes, unless you're trying to be a Nazi socialist.
I went with wealthy people because that covers politicians too.
Imagine if politicians were given minimum wage. Would minimum wage suddenly increase? You're damn right it would.
Ultimately, sin.
Very true; Adam and Eve introduced sin and death into the world; they chose sin over God. Human natural than demonstrates how evil and depraved people can be; what is evolving, is peoples' ability to come up with different ways to become ever more evil and depraved to other people and the environment around him. And, don't bring up that nonsense about developed countries being better off than third world countries; there are still starving, suffering people in places like the United States.
Generally speaking, most people in the United States are just as unjust as anyone, I don't care if you're a Pastor, news anchor, low income worker, government benefits recipient, someone who talks about what's fair and just, etc, if any one of these people saw someone struggling while driving, what would they do? Just drive pass right by all those struggling people and forget all about them, and that's the stuff that God sees. I can imagine that Pastor who's got it in his mind that he's been so pious all his life in his mind and, when he gets to face God at judgment, he's going to be like what happened? I ministered in front of so many thousand people, I start tv stations, I brought so many people to Christ, I had so many churches built, I would have come to Christ, if you would have given me the right type of evidence, I published so many scientific papers, I started Microsoft, I was a philanthropist, I was a police officer who saved innocent victims, I was a firefighter who saved lives, etc, and God will come back with, remember what you did/thought when you simply drove past those struggling men everyday you could drive, remember not giving so and so that job, you felt he needed, you knew it, remember sending so and so to prison, when he deserved mercy, you felt it, you knew it, etc? And a lot of people will realize why the road to Hell is broad, while the road to Heaven is the straight and narrow.
Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? Really? How many times did that so called good person just drive right past someone in need, forgetting all about that person, refuse him a job, when he could have really used it, etc.? You have to notice the subtle evil nature of people. But, if you pray for God's forgiveness everyday, perhaps, that's your only hope; not because of how good you are, but because of God keeping his covenant with people; God knows, people couldn't do, as they are subconsciously evil.
@dshipp17: Bad things happen to good people because the world is cursed. But there aren't many real "good" people, at least not in God's eyes, because we're all sinners. The only "good" people are those who are truly saved, and God does all the saving of any one person.
