what's your workout routine, if any?
it took me the first 29 years of my life (not counting gym class) to get motivated enough to work out every day
but it's really changed my life in a big way
and changed my shape in an even bigger way
so what about you?
what's your guys' workout routine?
walk, run, lift, crunch, gym, at home, with friends, alone?
or do you choose not to work out at all?
let's talk
if nothing else, we may be able to trade some great workout tips!
my "daily" workout-
yoga: 20-25 minutes of sun salutations, 20-25 minutes of stretches and Iyengar yoga
lifting: (dumbbells) 30 rep sets with 45lb weigths for biceps, tris and delts
lifting: (barbells) 30 rep sets with 90 lb weights (flat bench presses, incline benchpresses), and about 15 reps of lifts from the floor to above my head (whatever those are called)
crunches: 45 degree inclined crunches on the weight bench with 35 lbs dumbbells over my head to failure
abs: 666 workout (6x6 sets of crunches)knee ups, leg raises, cross crunches, reverse crunches, cross leg crunches, reach and touches
* 30 rep sets is a good way to go, but I usually do everything to failure *
I do everything at home
I usually do yoga and weights 3 days a week
and yoga and crunches and abs the other 3 days
1 day to rest
I lost 35 lbs in less than 6 months, gained 6 inches to my biceps, defined my chest and gave myself a six pack (which is a little hidden at the moment thanks to my winter slump)
I do about five hours of weights a day on a high protein, minimal fat and carbohydrate diet. I'm RIPPED.
wait, what?
5 hours?
are you serious?
if I spend more than maybe 1 hour a day doing weights I have to travel to a lazerus pit or have my spine bionically replaced
but wtg
that's enviable
...unless you're joking....
oh I forgot cardio!!!
I also walk 2 miles at least 4 days a week
that helps keep the fat burning and the metabolism nice and high for my weekly cake binges ;)
a very necessary routine
they aren't going to change themselves
@_Muse:
I wish I had the lung capacity to run
half a mile turns me into a wheezing old mess of an old man
one day though
4 days a week
Monday( light)
- Legs: Squat, weighted lunges, Leg press, calves and then some of those machine leg work outs
- Arms: Standing dumbbell curl, seated dumbbell curl, Barbell curl, rope pull down, triceps extensions, shoulder shrugs, forearms, dips
- Abs
- 15 min running followed by 15 min incline walk
Tuesday(light)
- Chest: Bench press, Decline Bench press, Dumbbell Bench press, Pec flys, rope pull thing
- Back: Pull down, seated row, bent over row, lower back machine
-Abs
- 15 min running followed by 15 min incline walk
Wednesday is the same as Monday except with heavier weights. The same goes for Thursday and Tuesday.
I also work out my neck randomly but I find that the hardest muscle to work.
I have neck workout issues too
I try to lift my head while doing presses on my back
it's helped build up my traps
even just holding my head level off the edge of the bench while I'm working out seems to help
but yeah
it's always a sore spot by the time I'm done
I think people understimate the power of jumping jacks and push ups
I try to do push ups, chin ups and jumping jacks whenever I'm away from home (like when I spend the night out)
they're such a great, simple workout that anyone can do
I do cardio regularly. But weight training not so regularly, I should, but i often find I have a lack of motivation where sometimes I go every day of the week, sometimes 3 three times, other times none.. I should really get a schedule and stick to it -__-
I do the Spartacus Workout
each set is done for however many reps you can get in in a minute. 15 second breaks in between. I repeat the workout two more times with 2 minuted in between. I recommend 10-20 pound dumbbells.
It goes in this order:
Goblet Squats
Mountain climbers
Single arm dumbbell swing
T pushup
Split jump
dumbbell row/bent over rows
bumbbell side lunge and touch
Pushup position row
Dumbbell lunge and rotation
Dumbbell push press.
I do this 3-4 times a week with my freinds at my High School gym
Mondays & Wednesdays = Legs & Lower back
-20min on cycle
- Legs: squats, leg extensions, reverse leg extensions, calf raises
- Lower back: dead lifts, toe touches
-30min on cycle
Thursdays & Saturdays = Chest, Back & Arms
-15min Shadowboxing with weights
-run 3 miles
-1 hour of P90X
Fridays & Sundays = Cardio
-30min Shadowboxing with weights
- run 5 miles.
" I do cardio regularly. yes and no
I dont' have a set menu, but I have lots of rules to follow
first, I make sure to keep my portion sizes down
no preservatives (wheat bread instead of white, nothing from a bag, fresh baked goods)
no high fructose corn syrup (no soda!, natural juices)
lots of fiber (green veggies, apples with the skin on, helps to process fat)
lots of water! ('nuff said)
and I don't deny myself something bad for me if i want it
I just don't keep it in the house
if I want a cookie, I go get a cookie, but I make sure it's fresh baked and didn't come from a bag with a 3 year shelf-life
I only eat red meat 2 or 3 times a week
I eat lots of peanut butter, because it's got good fats and lots of protein
and that's about it
I LOVE to eat, so I can't just abstain from eating yummy foods that aren't good for you
and if you try to avoid them all together, you end up cracking and going on a crazy binge
but keeping your fiber up and improving your metabolism makes eating cake or ice cream when you want it not quite such an issue to your overall appearance and health
Well, 4 days a week I either go for a long jog or hike. (This is usually done with cousin of mine)
Then I get home and do a variety of crunches and sit-ups. All done alone. (occasional weight lifting every week).
I've been doing this for about 4 almost 5 years now. Which is great because I used to be a pretty chubby chub lol. But now I have abs, pecks, I'm not exactly "buff" but I'm definitely "cut". Something I would never have believed if you told me many years ago :)
I have a schedule...until it gets cold out
then it all goes out the window for some reason
it must have something to do with the winter holidays and all their baked goods....
@Andras:
and there's lots you can do at home too
which helps keep you on a regular schedule if you can't physcially get to a gym every day
@mikethekiller:
you're a brave man
that p90x is a killer!
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Friday
I lift weights in the gym.
Every night I do 100 pushups and 50 situps.
stick with it
you'll see results soon
and then, once you've started changing your body, it'll remember the work you've done
muscles remember
it'll pay off
@Whoa:
I hear you!
I never thought I'd be in good shape at all
or have any kind of definition or muscles
and it just...happened!
who knew that if you ate better and worked out every once and a while you'd get in better shape?
it's like witchcraft, or something
@Andras: Good going then! Stick with it ;)
Right!, it takes A LOT of dedication. But results eventually do come if you only just continue and never stop. It was so hard for me at first because I was a very lazy person, but eventually I got hooked and never stopped. My laziness does tend to come out sometimes, but when it comes to working out, I get this "boost" of energy lol and I get focused.
:)
I hear you
my laziness is my worst enemy
.....next to Ben and Jerry....
@Aiden Cross:
well, I'm trying to gain now
I've lost the amount of weight I wanted to lose
now I'm just trying to get bigger and more defined
I'm upping my weight limits, because I think I've started to plateau on the mass increase
I just need to really up my protein intake and get busy
agreed
like I said in OP, it's really changed my life
....ugh, when did I become "that" guy....
;)
yeah, I'm thinking about it
my buddy is all about the creatine
I think I'll look into it and give it a shot once I've started upping all my weights
" I eat a whole bunch and sit on my buttDamn you!!!!!!!!!! >:l
"and never gain any fat, ah the wonders of a high metabolism
I usually do weight training around 3-4 times week, with a rest day in between. Haven't really done much cardio though. A normal routine would be something like this:
Day 1:
Squats, lunges, deadlifts, overhead presses, a bit of jogging, & other random isolation exercises for lower body.
Day 2:
Closed grip bench presses, overhead presses, dips, shrugs, skullcrushers, & some other chest/tricep/shoulder crap.
Day 3:
Squats, pull ups, deadlifts, pendlay rows, & hanging leg raises.
" I eat a whole bunch and sit on my buttNot everyone has a mutant gene. :P
"and never gain any fat, ah the wonders of a high metabolism
if I was one of those people who could eat ANYthing he wanted......I'd be at Chipotle right now......
it's only sort of a "restaurant"
it's more like a heartattack with free refills
only in America would anyone eat a burrito the size of a cinderblock
no one needs to eat that much rice and bean
