I've been through this pain. I had a dog that was sick with cancer and had to be put to sleep right in front of me and the pain was gut wrenching. It took time but I healed. Do you have stories of your own to share. How did you get through the pain?

The death of a pet is something you never forget. Only way to get over the pain phase is with crying, time, and some crying time.

By buying a new pet. THere is no way around tHis obvious trutH. Pet owners will mourn until a new puppy comes arrives. It Happens all tHe time.

Besides tHat, tHe only way to "get tHrougH tHe pain" of a loved one is to ccry as mucH as you feel like crying.

Get a new pet.

Seriously. There's nothing that heals more than taking all the experiences you had raising a pet and starting all over again with a new one. It's like, you realize even with the sadness that your pet's death brought you, you couldn't imagine your life without their presence. They bring you so much happiness and comfort, and so of course you want to have that again. It's the last step on the path to acceptance of your pet's passing.

For me it's the same as with any death, you never get over it, it will get a little easier with time - but the pain won't ever completely go away. It's the nature of loss.

The best you can do is focus on what a good life he/she had with you, and that you did all you could, and it was just his/her time. Hopefully that's the case.
