Scary thought in my opinion
What would this world be like without love
Nobody would want to reproduce and thus none of us would be alive.
Nobody can fathom that. Because that's literally the definition of Hell - A place with total absence of love.
So I don't think it's at all possible for that to happen. It's beyond our realm.
@humanrocket: Your point?
@dbvse7: He he. Too be young and naive.
Possibly a much more logical place.
Love IS logical.
Nobody would want to reproduce and thus none of us would be alive.
Full of Hate and no sex.
1. Are you guys assuming "love" is required to want to have sex?
2. Absence of love doesn't automatically = hate.
@humanrocket: Not really.. but ok. I'm not ignorant enough to believe that Love ONLY makes you do stupid things.
Without love theres only Hate and Apathy, Love and Hate can Coexist. Since the opposite of Love is actually Apathy and Fear I don't understand why a World without Love would be a more logical one.
A world with no love is just a world that's careless and scared.
@dbvse7: Love makes people do stupid, illogical things for stupid, illogical reasons.
@squares: Again, you're saying it as if that's ALL love does.
You're completely wrong to believe a World where no one cares about anything and fear is reality would be a more logical place.
There would be no point in anything, no one would use reason. Heard the expression “Love is a strong word” well this is why.
Love makes people do stupid, illogical things for stupid, illogical reasons.
Guess you already know all these, but I am going to go ahead and say it anyway. Love makes you do illogical things if you let your juvenile emotions get the better of you. Without love only thing left is hate which might lead you to do fairly illogical things as well. Love is needed to balance things out.
I guess I'm already coming across as an annoying d***. I rest my case here.
Nobody would want to reproduce and thus none of us would be alive.
Full of Hate and no sex.
1. Are you guys assuming "love" is required to want to have sex?
2. Absence of love doesn't automatically = hate.
This is what I thought as well when I came across those posts.
@ms-lola: Ikr?
To answer the question, I don't think as a species we could last long since love is what we identify with when with our family. If this has to do with love in general, then we can be in trouble. If this is only to do with romantic love, I think we can do alright without it. Strong affection, much like how we feel towards friends can be enough. This is my experience, so far.
@sophia89: “ Without love there would be no hate,we would rely on reasoning and logic to make our choices.”
Without love you have no reason to use logic.. there would be no purpose in life.
Apathy, Fear, and Hate will exist, since Apathy and Fear are the opposites of Love.
Hate can exist without Love.
Why, and how would you use logic, and reason if..
1: You don't care about it.
2: You're too scared to use it.
Without love there would be no hate,we would rely on reasoning and logic to make our choices.
You must have a different interpretation of love than I have.
Full of Hate and no sex.
Nobody would want to reproduce and thus none of us would be alive.
A-lot of animals and insects don't understand love yet they reproduce,we would have children because it would be the logical thing to do.
Proof animals don't understand love? Almost every animal care for their children and love for opposite sex is an emotion simulated by hormones which is required for both growing affection towards them and intercourse so I don't think any animal lacks that. Some Insects eat their partner's head off after having intercourse if that's what you are going on about. Is that a more acceptable behavior to you? I don't think it is unless you wan't to reduce yourself to a lesser being.
Possibly a much more logical place.
Agreed
There would be a lot of War and Death. Chaos and confusion will increase.
Why?
Most wars are started because of love or hate.(love of power, love of land, love of your GOD,etc)
Guess you have to eliminate both love and hatred to bring in total peace. It's up to you if we can consider ourselves human beings after that!
@dbvse7: Thanks for lecturing me about a point you inferred from my post, it was soooo warranted.
I guess the real question is: would getting rid of love (and maybe other emotions too) be worth it?
Also, love doesn't always have to be an emotion. For instance-love your enemies. I don't think anyone's going to feel the same way about their enemies as they would about their best friend or spouse, but that doesn't mean we can't love them by wanting good for them instead of evil. Do we want to get rid of this kind of love, a choice to want something good for others?
@dbvse7: You make lectures and logic sound mutually exclusive.
@sophia89: Hate will still be there.. The concept is what's gone.
The Concept of Hate wouldn't matter because Fear and Apathy would take it's place.
No one would care, or people would be too scared to care. Which means the concept of logic and reason also won't matter.
We will exist with no purpose, because that would be our reality.
Love is what drives us, gives us interest, makes us care, gives us hope, and most important it's what makes us human.
Love is an extreme emotion. As is hate. I could live in a world without love, as long as hate was taken off the board as well.
1) Sharks eat each other even their own pups,Lions do it as well, spiders eat their mom when they hatch, you already mentioned the praying mantis, sea Turtles leave their young unprotected on the beach, etc
2) I'm simply answering the OP's question about what the world would be like without love.
There are always exceptions. All of them happens 'cause of nature's tendency for balancing things out.
Sharks don't care for their children 'cause most sharks lay a lot of eggs or their children can take care of themselves. Lions eat their cub if it's already dying or to reduce competition. Turtles lays a lot of eggs in the beach to ensure survival of a good number of them. If they don't maintain the rules they will go extinct.
All of them are different cases from humans.
Point is, are they more acceptable behaviors to you?
All of these are settled by nature because nature thinks it is necessary, you can't get above that. Love in human beings is settled by nature because it's necessary for your existence.
For the record, I'm just trying to explain why your comparison of animal reproduction with that of humans is silly.
....What is love?
Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me...no more.
Seriously though, love is one of the redeeming qualities of Humanity, I shudder to think of a world where love is gone. Some have made the point that the world would be 'more logical', that is untrue. Because even without love people do stupid things. People do stupid thing (in general) because of emotion(s) not just love. And while an emotionless world may be appealing to some, as logic would rule, it doesn't take a genius to see a nightmarish world that would be.
Even worse. We'd do horrible things to our family and friends just to get ahead.
Not necessarily true, when was the last time you did something horrible to a random person? Without love family and friends= random person on the street you don't love. Not saying there aren't people who wouldn't but it wouldn't be this everyone does it that thing.
....What is love?
Baby don't hurt me, don't hurt me...no more.
I've said love has it's good and bad. Nearly every war was started because of love.
The love of money and power; love for yourself. Such misguided "love" is not true love; it is selfishness.
