What is it with these recent acts of violence from Greg Hardy, Ray Rice and now Jonathan Dwyer?
Do you think it's an issue that goes person to person and it's just been an awful coincidence, or do you think the nature of our game is complicit?
It's more of a snow ball effect. The Ray Rice incident happened months ago, April if I remember correctly. NO ONE was talking about it in the months that followed. He just got a slap on the wrist with a two game suspension, and people where happy. It's not until recently, that the video surfaced where we saw him punching his fiance, that people demand that he get a more hard penalty and accused the NFL of mishandling the situation. Since the topic was being covered by more media stations, other incidents like the Dwyer and Hardy had risen up. Because the NFL "mishandled" the Ray Rice situation, they can't let any other incidents damage their image. Honestly I just feel the league is making up the rules as they go along. Just take a look at the Peterson case. That's another one that I feel the NFL is just throwing darts and seeing where it lands.
Peterson case is rough from a PR standpoint because that's how Adrian disciplines his children as per his faith and how he was raised. Peterson's is different because, unlike the other situations, he wasn't malicious but rather raising his child the way he believes he should. I was raised that way as well as millions of other people. So that one is a different beast then the others, at least to me.
That was something, wasn't it? I can't believe he got penalized for that. It's not like he was trying to kick the guy lol

I'm not going to talk about parenting styles because I'm not a parent and it's none of my business to tell people how to raise their kids. BUT what I was trying to say is the Peterson case couldn't have happened at a worse time, because everyone has the Ray Rice and Hardy case in their mind and people want the league to ACT and not stand by. The league doesn't seem to have a process to handle the case since Peterson was deactivated, then activated and now placed in "don't come near the team" list.

I know right?!?!
A brother tries to hurdle, and they penalize him!
If it had been a white 2x Steelers Team MVP, they woulda been like "He was just showing off some of his new Black Belt moves, no big deal."

Lol how will the NFL bounce back from this one. This season will now be tainted by all this and its ruined.
I wouldn't say that the season is tainted. One good Sunday of games and people will move on.
@jmarshmallow: That's racist. :P
Crap like this has always happened in the NFL. Nowadays the media feeds off of it more so it's freakin' everywhere...

Check the ratings. The arrest have done nothing to make people stop watching.

@jmarshmallow: Word. *fist bump*
I don't do well with reading sarcasm. Sorry. I mean that genuinely, btw,
@humanrocket: By "ruined", I meant that that's all people will be talking about now when someone mentions football or the NFL. Which for me will basically ruin it. I know people aren't going to stop watching and I won't either.
Its just this big incident this year. Last year we had Jonathon martin and Incognito, 2012 - bounty gate, 2011-lockout, etc. Its an unfortunate pairing of events that the simple minded media like to make big deals out of and the NFL goes on a witch hunt to try to clean up their image. Nothing new, this happens in most popular sports.

Also, this.
Maybe it's time to take seriously the effect on players who are encouraged and trained to be physically violent? Just a thought.
