We know that religion has an impact on the history of comics....so how has it benefited comics?
What role does religion play in comics?
Other way around. Comics have created a religion, specifically the Holy Church of WenjunChew, in honor of his divine omnipotence, which has benefited the omniverse in his radiating glory and might.
@darthaznable: @mysticmedivh: Lol you guys are right
Considering we're dealing with characters with powers some might say are similar to a deity, publishers of comics have had to be very careful not to offend people. There's been plenty of times where characters' dialogue reflected a belief in God, sometimes unnecessarily which is where I base most of my opinion on. Currently I am re-reading the Dark Phoenix Saga of the X-Men, and Sean Cassidy says to the team before they head back to the States something about taking care and may the Devil not know they're dead for at least half an hour so they have time to settle in Heaven safely, haha. Dialogue like that matches the character so well that I don't mind seeing it. Nightcrawler's Catholic faith is a huge part of who he is, plus Kitty being Jewish, and I am sure many comic fans have been able to identify with them (and others) because of it. I know I did.
Thanks for that it was awesome! Zoidberg FTW!
@flashback0180: Heresy! Blasphemy! We shall burn this idol worshipper at the stake!
@mysticmedivh: @darthaznable:
@mandarinestro: i'm just going to leave this here
still mad XD
@flashback0180: You shall not have a Lord other than your one Savior: Batman!

Goku is part of the Chew-Force. Do you not see his blessed imagine under Chew, next to Morgan Freeman? He is one of Chew's angels.
@mysticmedivh: Have you forgotten our Prophet Chew's commandments, priest? This man is suggesting Goku is the one Lord of Prep, and although he is a noble warrior of the Chew Force, we only worship the Holy Trinity of Prep: Wenjun Chew, Bat God, and Batman.
Religion is a vital part of certain comic book characters.
Without it, some characters like Ghost Rider, Spawn, Saint of Killers, John Constantine, Lucifer Morningstar, etc. wouldn't exist.
And with other characters, religion plays a large part in their character, like Kitty, Nightcrawler, etc.
So I think it plays a huge role, and it's perfectly fine when it makes sense with that character.

You also forgot the group that just has a different religion for the sake of being diverse (Thing, Moon Knight).
@goonage: I always forgot to list ancient religions, e.g. Thor, Zeus, Odin, etc. lol.

It depends on the comic and the writer. Some writers (I'm looking at you, Alan Moore) tend to incorporate religion into a lot of their work, whereas some almost never touch on it, if at all.
Religion mostly has a background role but when its utilized with the right vision it gives comics a sense of realism.

Both of you are right and wrong.
Let's get the facts straight:
- Goku is part of the Chew-Force and the Holy Church of Chew
- Goku is NOT a Lord or Savior.
- Goku is a humble servant of Chew, an angel (like Michael Demiurgos/Lucifer Morningstar).
@darthaznable: winning.
One of the best scenes ever was Nightcrawler questioning his own faith after having witnessed the power of the Beyonder.
@darthaznable: That's hilarious.

The Presence of DC is based on Yahweh. The Source of DC is supposed to be based on Buddha (though I don't see much similarities being a Buddhist myself). Lucifer and Michael as well as many other angelic figures in DC/Vertigo is religion based. Batman is based on the earthly personification of god; a god among men.
@consolemaster001: not really. Not at all actually. The spectre, daredevil being catholic is an important part of him, there's all different types of gods, the tower of babel story, the thing went to heaven once, one of Batman's villains was a devil worshipper, new captain marvel is a Muslim I'm pretty sure, and a bunch more stuff.
' people say batman is GOD.
Because he is.
I enjoy Daredevil's Catholicism.
I do too.
