Where the hell are my favourites? Totoro, Pom Poko and Castle in the Sky?

#5 Posted by RDClip (1167 posts) - - Show Bio

Nausicaa is my favourite, but I think Castle in the Sky is the best one.

Spirited Away, such a great movie. When I rented it and saw it for the first time, I must've watched it at least five more times that weekend.

Spirited Away. One of the greatest films of all time.

I have nearly everyone of his movies on dvd...

My favorite is either Howl's Moving Castle or Nausicaa Valley of the Wind.

Both of those movies were too good for words.

Is Pixar really heralded for their outstanding animation? Either way I've heard of only a few of these movies, I guess Pixar is the face of outstanding marketing. lol

@ssejllenrad: Dang I could have swore I put Totoro in there.... This was just from personal memory and as soon as I created the topic I remembered Castle in the Sky. Also Pom Poko isn't a Miyazaki film it is however a Ghibli film.

Just finished Nausicaa and I have to say it was amazing... Princess Mononoke is still my favorite but Nausicaa is a EXTREMELY close second.

Spirited Away amazes me each time I see it. I might put it in my top 10 films all time.

Howl's Moving Castle. Reminds me a lot of Beauty and the Beast. ^__^

#16 Posted by Setherial (213 posts) - - Show Bio

Spirited Away. Kiki's Delivery Service is a close second though just because it was the first Miyazaki film I watched and it got me hooked onto his future material. Well, aside from Ponyo. I hated that movie.

@setherial: I couldn't stand Ponyo either. Most of Miyazaki's films are accessible to children and adults. Ponyo was made for kids and it really shows, It just wasn't appealing to me.

How does it have a 92% on RT? To put that in perspective Nausicaa only has an 83%

Princess Mononoke is easily my favorite.

Nigh impossible but Nausicaä

Torn between Mononoke and Spirited Away. Spirited Away was the film that inspired me to take up animation though...

Spirited Away. It's the best of Studio Ghibli

And for the record:

Studio Ghibli > Disney

Castle in the Sky and Kiki's Delivery Service are my favorite, since they're not there however, I'll choose Spirited Away. Nausicaa would be my choice if it wasn't for Haku.

A wee bit off topic... Am I the only one who likes Goro Miyazaki's Earth sea? Almost everyone I know who has seen that film loathed it. Am I weird for liking that film? Take note that I also am an Earthsea book lover so yeah I know the books are way better. But I still liked that film.

Spirited Away, my favorite animated movie. No exception.

#26 Edited by VercingetorixTheGreat (2823 posts) - - Show Bio

@ssejllenrad: It isn't up to the rest of Ghibli's movies but it is a decent film. The only reason it is loathed is because it came from Ghibli.... Kind of like Cars to Pixar

Ponyo wasn't all that great.

Oh my God I'm so happy Spirited Away!

#29 Posted by VercingetorixTheGreat (2823 posts) - - Show Bio

I finished Castle in the Sky a second time and realized that it and Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind are in the same universe O___O hope Sheeta and Pazu weren't caught up in the 7 days of fire.

After watching Castle in the Sky I feel like my top Ghibli films have changed.

1. Princess Mononoke

2. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind

3. Castle in the Sky

4. Spirited Away

@_strigidae_: Glad you like Miyazaki... I hate that people in the States watch movies like Grown Ups but when I bring up the name Ghibli everyone looks at me like I'm insane
