Whatever I'm reading is my fave series.. Nyahahaha!

  • There was Narnia when I was a kid
  • Then the old-school Earthsea and Dune hand-in-hand
  • Then the even older-school Lord of the Rings
  • Then Wheel of Time (Going back to it as my fave for every succeeding book but since Jordan's death, I felt it won't be my fave again)
  • Then Shannara and Landover (Brooks is an on-again off-again fave of mine)
  • The Ender's Game
  • Then Sword of Truth
  • Then Lord of the Rings again cause of the movie craze. Same thing happened during Narnia movie releases
  • Then Dark Tower series
  • Then A Song of Ice and Fire (kind moving away from it cause of the mainstream fandom due to HBO' series)
  • Then The Malazan Book of the Fallen (continuing my favour to it cause it was just recently finished)
  • And right now Kingkiller: Chronicle

I've always loved Starwars but I don't want to put it alongside my other scifi/fantasy stuff cause it feels like a whole nutha genre IMO.

I'm not sure. I like the His Dark Materials books and the Thrawn Trilogy. Those are always my default answers and tend to come up quite often if someone asks me for favourite books. I'll also throw in the Bartimaeus Trilogy (now 4 books). They're all very different series, really. Harry Potter used to be there and I still like the series, but I've moved on I think from those roots.

His Dark Materials and Thrawn most definitely. The Hand of Thrawn duology was a huge letdown.

The Elric Saga is my hands-down favorite.

A good bit of the 30+ Star Wars books I've read. I'm behind on these too. Apparently, I've got to branch out my sci-fi/fantasy reading.

@Nelomaxwell: Hell yeah! I've read every Elric book that's been put out to date, I think. As for the battles, I still have to wade my way through the forums before jumping into those but I'll keep an eye out.

Wild Cards, edited by George R. R. Martin - cannot say enough good things about this series.

Tek, by William Shatner (ghost written by Ron Goulart) - kinda awful, but a guilty pleasure.

The Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum - if you haven't read 'em, you should.

OH SHI- =o

You are the first Kingkiller Chronicle fan I've run across on comicvine. And the internet, in a long while.

It has to be the best fantasy series I've ever read. You've read Wise Man's Fear?

It's awesome. The last time I was checking (and that's been awhile) it was for some reason easier to find the British versions online (different covers). Also, they at least started omnibus editions at some point, but I don't know if the whole series was collected that way. I have never checked for digital copies.

Keep one thing in mind when you read it: you're going to notice some things similar to other major sci-fi/ superhero projects, but Wild Cards did it first. Hope you find and enjoy it. ;)

My favorite works in science fiction and fantasy are standalone novels, but there are still many great series to choose from. I'll give it a shot. These are what I enjoyed the most, not what I think are the most well written. I assume short stories count.

- The Lord of the Rings (even if you count the main trilogy as one book, I'm including the Hobbit and the other related works)

- Discworld

- Gormenghast (which was never completed, unfortunately)

- The Hitchhiker books

- Oz

- New Sun

- Chronicles of Amber

- Moorcock's "End of Time"

- Fafhrd & The Grey Mouser

- The Black Company

- Earthsea

- "Culture"

- Dying Earth

- Demon Princes

- Faded Sun

There are a lot more I like (and even more I think are, at least, decent), but these stand out.

@brc2000: You get props for listing chronicles of amber.
