What is the most Athletic sport?
@soaringturkeys: Seeing as the weight classes in wrestling range from 106 to a max of 285, that's not really true.
@thebourneposter: I'm talking about kgs. You are talking about lbs. Our guys range from 80kgs to 150kgs too.
@soaringturkeys: Weight is weight….
Me: They do. But they perform with a more physically heavier body. I'm guessing that the average rugby player scales from 80+ to 110kgs of pure muscle. That's middle to heavy weight of wrestling right?
You. Seeing as the weight classes in wrestling range from 106 to a max of 129kgs, that's not really true.
I said the average. The average position is about that much. We have guys weighing at 120-150+ but their positions are specific.
My initial point was right. The average rugby player performs with a physically heavier body.
be right back. going to go for a run to prove a point.
Edit. quick google. Average weight of a professional rugby player: 95.7kg
@darkbeam: Football/soccer.
@soaringturkeys: Good luck! 10k run not bad at all.
I guess it's my fault for not correcting you or being more clear, but I was really just throwing out averages and also keep in mind i'm strictly talking HS and, I guess, one year of college wrestling. I was only going by what I did (football, tennis, wrestling, volleyball, rugby, soccer, and some basketball)....3+ years ago. You can show me 10 k, but I can easily show you as much so lets not compare individual stats. Also, the 3-4 mile marker that you keep bringing up wasn't a constant at all. Our pre-practices and conditioning varied. For example, since it was free for us (11-12th grade), our coaches required us to participate in half-marathons for conditioning. So, anyways, I hope you weren't comparing your rugby players to HS wrestlers.....I myself, in fact, was making estimations, based on what I did in HS/College, for where professional (olympic/mma) wrestlers should be.
Also, you can't clip and paste parts of my post just to justify your rebuttal. You left out the parentheses. And you can give me the definition all you want, but you'd be wrong if you truly think athletics/athleticism only comes down to strength and endurance. It encompasses a whole lot more...
aww but i just ran 8ks. I was pretty slow though. 38 minutes.
My ideal running wasn't as far as I thought it was. Still though. 38 minutes / 8kms = 4.75minutes/k isn't baaad.
So I would have done a 47 minute or a 50 minute 10 km. Hmm A little slow.
Though I do love some procrastination...yeah, you need to be tough as nails to play hockey, in addition to being strong, having keen coordination, be fast, agile, have high endurance, incredible stamina, fast reflexes, quick thinking etc. Its a hard sport to play let alone be good at in any way.
No. Hockey isn't very athletic.
Have you ever played? Your legs are like wet noodles after
The average hockey player loses 5-8 pounds after one game.
Really? I don't doubt that, it's probably a lot of water weight.
Just keeping yourself standing up on the ice is hard enough. Let alone also playing a contact sport wearing all that gear
Football is being overrated here.
European or American?
@petey_is_spidey: Don't you mean the rest of the world or American football?
@petey_is_spidey: Don't you mean the rest of the world or American football?
I said European because it originated in Europe, but yeah I guess that works too.

The sport to literally every country but America is called Football. It's not European football.

Does it really matter?
Hockey, wrestling, Basketball, Rugby, Lacrosse, American Football, Football. Hockey trains pretty tough though too. Suicides, stairs, weight room, running miles and miles, checking drills, let alone the skill and coordination to be on skates and ice etc..im not saying its the absolute most athletic but its up there. Just dont want it to be overlooked.

European or American?
Either one.
On another note, I really disagree with the notion that Basketball is the most demanding and the only reason I can imagine it getting so much support is its sheer popularity in the states. The sport doesn't involve any contact or anything else that would involve raw physical strength, making it not particularly rounded. My second choice after Rugby would be MMA, then maybe Hockey.
You obviously don't watch B-Ball. Basketball does involve contact as well as raw strength, especially when one drives and takes hits going to said basket.
That pales in comparison to real contact sports like Football/Rugby/Hockey/MMA.

You've probably never played either sport.
The sport I would say is being overrated is boxing. Sure, it takes a large amount of dedication and endurance, but you don't have to be very athletic to play it.
People are absolutely out of their minds if they think Basketball is not close to the top in athleticism. Also I'd argue Football is up there too.
Swimming, at least when it comes to individual sports, but triathlons are probably the most athletic events.
Agreed. and the paramount of triathlons is the IRON MAN. I've said it a few times already.
Literally any athlete can play any sport if they want to. A basketball player could play a game of football, an american football player could box etc. Their bodies in their peak condition could potentially just let them perform at some level.
But no athlete can just step into the ironman and say Yeah i can do this.
Hockey. Anyone who has skated on choppy ice would understand. On top of that add the physicality of the sport, and the gear. They wear at least 10 pounds of gear, and carry that around with them the entirety of the game. Not to mention everyone on the ice is basically sprinting most of the time they are out there, which is why change ups happen so often.
The most athletic sport is "lesbia sports love-making with non monogamous emotional bonds and more than several people invited to respectfully express their erotic impulses" at the end of a Mardis Gras (after) after Party.
Which I say as a volunteer for B.Q.N. events, and having handled "the sharps".
Luna will know what I mean.

Considering we've never met, I'd say it would be a bit hard for you to judge that.
I'm not saying that they don't require one to be athletic; I'm just saying that people are mistaken if they believe that football (American or European) is the hardest sport.
