The point of Hipster is to like things before it's cool. They typically wear the big glasses and are very annoying.

They try hiding who they are by calling themselves "liberals." Meaning nearly everyone on CV is a hipster.
Maybe you're more familiar with that name.
Like I said in the other thread. Someone who wears "unfashionable" clothes and large frame glasses to try to look as different and unique as possible. But it's not enough to LOOK different, they have to think differently too, so they shun the mainstream and only like indie things, whether it's music, film or brand labels.
A term used too loosely.
This. Hipster is a comparative term, not absolute.

Just like swag, it doesn't have a definite meaning. It's usually whatever the user wants it to mean.
Contrary to popular belief, a hipster is actually someone who follows the latest trends.
It has been defined in the Oxford and Webster's dictionary.
@comicace3: Sorry, I didn't get this notification. I can try. I think there have been some great posts so far, that already do a better job than I could.
My personal thoughts though, are like any label or term hipster arrives because humans naturally enjoy categorizing things. We have a predisposed tendency to categorize things, and with the world getting smaller and smaller in the sense that technology and social media connecting people in greater ways than ever… terms and labels like hipster will become more common. The label means quite a few different things, with both negative and positive and neutral connotations. Common traits though tending to include being alternative, deviating from the norm, unconventional. For some the hipster is too forced and inorganic and pretentious, others a modern day version of a hippie, others its just another label and way for some to identify. Other applications and ideas too. Quite a broad term.concept, one that seemed to grow as well because it meant different things to different people.
